The chance they had which hit the post wasn't a free kick. Sema won the ball. Apprantley Monk thinks they should have had a clear cut penalty.

Watched the 2nd half with more interest maybe as we upped it a gear and I’d also figured out how to watch on my iPad instead of my phone. We can’t be to dissatisfied with the point it’s a long season and this squad needs sorting out. October can’t come fast enough for me. It’s annoying having quality sat at home pulling themselves off on a Saturday afternoon when they could be putting themselves in the shop window. However Vlad has said he only wants players involved that want to be there, so with that in mind I’d give it a composed performance looked organized and on another day could of won. I listened to a bit from Foster after the match and he mentioned our initial game plan never worked as the Sheffield grounds man hadn’t cut the grass. (Sorry Ben but premier league bowling greens are a distant memory) most important that we never lost given the circumstances. I’m pretty sure Tommy Mooney said on Hive that one of our biggest achievements in the first half was keeping the home crowd quiet. And so poor was our performance, he was right.
Thought our corners and free kicks apart from Ken’s one looked quite dangerous today. Not sure if it is rubbish champo defences but Quina, Garner and Ken put some good balls in.

I disagree. The level of officiating in England is abysmal in both the PL and the Championship. At least in the Championship they are generally crap for everyone, in the PL they are crap but weighted in favour of the big boys.
Man U might disagree with that tonight but then they didn't play like a big club. They were awful and probably would have lost anyway.
True but I meant it's a horrible ground and they're almost always a tough,no nonsense team,notwithstanding the monkey chants from the directors'box and I expect THEY were still in the ground. ( Accepting that it's a different set of directors!)
We've definitely fallen behind some of the other European nations when it comes to the standard of refereeing, especially since Clattenburg and Webb left/retired. A couple of exceptions in the PL who I think are generally quite capable in Kavanagh, Oliver and Atkinson (usually). Overshadowed by Moss, Taylor, Friend, Attwell etc. Also Darren Cann and Sian Massey-Ellis are both outstanding assistants although their role is becoming slightly redundant with VAR.
Not for the first time, we saw a goal given after VAR today and nobody bothered celebrating. Game's gone...
The Hive commentary picked up on it on one occasion that the referee didn't see something but gave the decision because of what Monk said, dunno if they had their yellow (with black splodges) spectacles though, they were pretty bad lol
Did you see Atkinson’s bizarre decisions today? A Palace player trod on Pogba’s foot when he was running through on goal, which took his boot off, and no penalty was given. Then Atkinson overruled himself to give Palace a penalty after looking at a VAR monitor, for a nothing ball-to-hand. It was so dubious, Palace players didn’t even bother asking the question. I’d say he should spend a week in the Championship, but I’m not sure I’d want the possibility that he would ref us after that performance.
I've always thought MA was capable of that sort of performance. I didn't see the penalty and follow up but have just heard Neville's comments and all the other commentators have been baffled. I never trusted tennis umpires,bar two and I have the same opinion on referees, usually hopeless, probably because they have never played the game.
And then we had De Gea being pulled up as his foot was an inch off the line when saving the penalty which was very harsh. Sort of decision that will lead to chaos if happens each week. Mind you Man U got loads of VAR call in their favour last season... Swings and roundabouts?
Have also never seen a stadium where both dugouts are in one half of the pitch. The home one was more or less where you'd expect it to be but the away one was almost level with the penalty area. How is that allowed? It means the Wednesday coaching staff have a much better view of the game and are also able to influence the ref more.

I find this one baffling and unnecessary. I mean the majority of penalties would not have resulted in a goal had an offence not been committed, especially these fractional hand ball ones. With ones like that it’s a penalty due to a technicality, there was actually no risk of a goal being scored. Yet the penalty conversion rate must be a good 70-80%, in favour of the taker. so is it really necessary to police the keepers so rigidly, are the odds already not stacked against them enough? It’s not like they’ve been having it off saving most of the pens is it... unless you’re Bachman that is.

I'd play Perica for 90 minutes at Newport. He needs to get a goal or 2. Then if he does score he keeps his spot.
Depends on his fitness levels, if he can manage two games in a week then definitely. I think Newport will do us, they love a cup run.
The away dug out was about five yards to the left of where the teams come on to the pitch (now) when looking from the pitch, I never thought that was anything but normal!
Yes, but the tunnel was not at the half way line, it was between the old wooden stand and the 70s add on bit and therefore the away dugout was further down one half.
Always wondered who the guy who does the ratings for the Observer supported as it clearly isn't Watford. He wasn't on for long ! Not sure what that says about those who started in his eyes. You'd have to have the defence as MOTM given they looked fairly solid apart from the usual poor marking from set plays.
And what about the other 4?... Also, on the 2nd, 3rd and 6th examples there, he had the option of a much simpler forward pass to a team-mate available to him which he should have had the time to execute. Instead he went for the more "ambitious" ball which just went to the opponent. It's just wasteful.
Trouble is, he was off his line. A ridiculously small amount. Once you start checking these things with VAR this is the kind of accurate but dim outcome you get. Far better to ignore it if it's not obvious enough for the ref or lino to see it.
It’s hard to write a considered piece at the moment because it’s so difficult knowing exactly where we are currently at and where we are going. I’ve rarely known so much flux at the club, and most of it negative too as it revolves around potential outgoings. We’ve now not won on the road since Bournemouth back in January, so from that low base any point away from home is acceptable. With all that’s going on off the field, it keeps us unbeaten and for any relegated side, that’s a good way to kick off a new campaign. It’s also the first time since 2008 that we’ve started a season with two consecutive clean sheets. Again, after all the useless defensive performances of last season, that’s a positive, no matter the quality of the opposition. Ivic seems to have made us tighter at the back, which you’d obviously hope for in this defensive formation we are currently using. Boring cliche I know, but keep clean sheets and you’re half way there. But what about the other half? Three matches in, two goals scored. Hmm. It’s not thrilling football yet. We seem to have the solid base, but lack the sparkle and glitter. The wow factor. And where is that sparkle? For whatever reason it’s sitting the matches out. With every game that passes, it gets more worrying why the likes of Sarr, Suarez etc aren’t playing. At first I laughed off the conspiracy theories and just thought Sarr was unfit after returning late while Suarez, Capoue et al were carrying knocks. Now I’m not so sure. I don’t like it anymore than the next person on this forum. You feel Ivic is laying the foundations for the season, making us hard to beat and all we are lacking is the real quality to make and convert chances so 0-0s become 3-0 wins and we send out a signal for the league. We could be making a real statement and it’s so frustrating that, for whatever reason, we are being denied the chance to be at full strength. This season so far I’ve become more nervous waiting for the team sheet to come out than I am for the match itself.
