From Gianluigi Longari (@Glongari) on Twitter. No idea how reliable. “#Watford ongoing dialogues with i #Rangers for midfielder Glen #Kamara . However, the main focus remains Seko #Fofana currently in force at #Lens .@tvdellosport#WFC”
As mentioned by others on the Suggestions thread, Fofana moved last summer from Udinese for £10m or so. According to reports linking him to Atalanta, Milan and Marseille, Lens have set his asking price at 16m Euros. Pretty decent player from the looks of things.
Has some experience of English football too having joined City at age 17, and having played at Fulham for a season on loan
Will we have a team of midfielders ?! https://mobile.twitter.com/thewatfordway/status/1404907661964025857
Ignoring the difference between pounds and euros, if the Pozzos bought him back at Lens’ asking price, they would have effectively loaned him to Lens for a year for -6m. Great business.
I don't know if I would feel entirely comfortable with both this guy and Louza in a midfield three. Neither seem great defensively, Louza possibly slightly better of the two.
Fofana's defensive stats were terrible last season. The only way this signing makes sense would be if we were intending to play him as the 10/most advanced midfielder. However, even then I still don't think any combination of Kamara/Louza/Chalobah/Hughes for the 2 more deep-lying CM spots is going to be solid enough defensively to help compensate for that (regardless of who stays or goes).
It's all part of the same pot though so effectively only costs us 6m euros for a 16m valued player. Smart business.
He was always one of the players that stood out for Udinese. Definitely more of a box to box midfielder for them, not sure what job he does for Lens. He is and would be the most dynamic of our midfield. Pozzo and Giaretta will know exactly what they're getting if they're in for him. Plus he's still very much admired in Serie A. Kamara I really can't understand why we would be in for him. Then again I've not seen him much but from what I have doesn't fill me with confidence.
The odd thing about Kamara is his stats don’t make him stand out. And when any of us have watched him, he hasn’t stood out. Yet Rangers fans think he’s like the 2nd coming of Gazza the way they rave about him and say he’s been their absolute standout player in Europe. They seem to believe £15m is nowhere near enough. Whereas to me, and others on here, it seems like it’s about 3x too much. Unless we are flush with cash and don’t know about it, I would be very concerned if we spend £15m on him. It would also make me think Hughes is likely to be off.
Whilst it sounds excessive, the Pozzo's have developed a "world-class" Track and Trace system, Sanchez, Richarlison, Sarr, DePaul and Gray, are just a few examples of success.
I merely pulled an example of insane spending out of the air. I could easily have used another example, say a Dyson electric fan for £400 or HS2 for £98bn. Or Isaac Success.
