Well Walter was the one who really trusted Prodl and played him on a regular basis.

We’ve all been worried about Snakey trying to buy our best players when it’s really Walter we should have been worrying about creeping up from behind to grab our crown jewells.

Thank **** we have tied down Britos and Holebas for another year.

Bye. Would pay for his one way ticket to Torino.

Great for us in his first 2 seasons, absolute gash last season and has lost a yard of pace (he was slow as it was) and he's awful on the ball.

Kabasele and Cathcart proved at the back end of the season they should be in the reckoning as a pairing, with Wilmott now thrown into the equation we'd need probably one more top quality centre back with Mariappa and Britos also part of squad.

    Google translates pigeon English interpretation:

"The exclusive of TorinoGranata comes from the Austrian world. In fact, from source close to Austrian defender Sebastian Prodl, class '87, Watford could become a future player of Taurus, as he would like to follow Walter Mazzarri, who had as a coach to the English team. The national defender of Austria had signed for five years plus one with Watford (now there are three), but the current coach, the Spaniard Javi Gracia, is not considering him. Hence the decision to want to go, maybe again at the service of the Livorno technician".

Sadly true, he was imperious in defence at times at his best, but really was pretty poor last season. Maybe it is just down to that loss of pace.

Agree we need one top quality centre back - though this has seemedthe case for about 4 seasons! Maybe this time...?

Couldn't have put it better myself. But I'm not sure who this Watford guy is who's going to play for Taurus.

I like Prodl as a person. He's a good pro and a nice bloke. Our version of Thor.

However, you have to be a little ruthless at times. He's 31 in a couple of weeks and last season he was poor. There's no denying that.

The recent 4 year deal is probably a bit of a curve ball. I think the club gives these longer contracts out to give the player security, in order for him to sign it, but it's going to be on reduced rates. So Watford actually get someone who is an integrated player for less money, then move him on anyway.

But the other side is, they may not be able to move him on, like Djedje. That's the risk, but I think European clubs would be interested in Prodl, so moving him on is not a problem. They may even get a nominal fee into the bargain.

Seems like his best position is the middle of the 3 in a back 5. If we are only playing 2 CBs then his lack of pace will continue to be an issue and at his age he won't get any quicker,

The thing is, when you are a sizeable player as Prodl is, the pace that you do have is key. Once that starts to fade, you have to find other ways of imposing yourself into the game and sadly I don’t think he is good enough to do that. John Terry has managed it brilliantly. Players like Vidic lost it very quickly. Only the very best CB’s seem to go beyond 30 in the PL now. Prodl is the wrong side of it sadly.

Would be a shame on a non-playing basis as he seems one of the genuinely nice guys at the club who I doubt has ever been a problem in the changing room. Would have no problem with him being a squad player and helping mentor the likes of Wilmot. But I imagine Prodl thinks he has a few more years of first-choice football left somewhere as a current international player. Has his best season under Walter too so it makes sense if true.

It slips through your fingers like sand.

I remember shouting at Welbourne a bit but never Williams. He never came near where we were.

We should remember he was injured last season and even brought back in the team not 100%
He should be given some latitude on his performances. He is playing well for Austria and with a good pre-season will be fit and back to his best.
Nevertheless I still prefer Kabasele & Cathcart and would like to see an upgrade on Cathcart, maybe Willmot is that man eventually.
