So after our draw we are on 34 pts, compared with 29 pts in our promotion winning season. Seems like a decent start to me considering we know we can play much better.

Although the points are very similar to the previous seasons, goals scored is well down and needs to improve.
Only time will tell if the change in manager will help this.

Great work Hornet77 keep it going.

  6. How are you going to treat match day numbering now that games are being postponed?

  7. Hornet77

The only way is to update after each Watford match so that the match number is the matches played by Watford. The stats won't line up with game weeks until the postponed games are played but they will show the position after every completed Watford game.

  9. The number of strikers on form in play off and promotion years versus now is all that needs to be said

We’ll be lucky if we get a playoff spot

The thing that constantly suprises me about these stats is that Lloyd Dyer scored a goal.

Looking at the next five games in the previous seasons listed we have got 12 points in two of them and 10 points in the other. Historically this is when we start a run. If we can do that this season it will set us up well for a horrid final seven games.

    Fantastic Hornet77!

Adding the fixtures and whether they are on SKY is great. This is a 'go to' section after every match for me.

What we wouldn't give for a run-in like 2014/15 eh? Although the pain of that last match still hurts.

Still more points than the other seasons, but our lack of goals stands out even more.
If we start scoring more then we have a real chance of automatic, carry on as we are and the playoffs will be the best we achieve.

It's bloody obvious to most of us on here that we need a GOAL SCORER!!! So why is it not obvious to GINO

As others have said, we are slipping away from the automatics and goals will cost us.

I've added a line seperating the results by each head coach and it's interesting to see their records so far:

    Ivic
    P 20 W 9 D 7 L 4 F 23 A 15 Pts 34
    PPG 1.70
    F 1.15 goals per game
    A 0.75 goals per game

    Munoz
    P 7 W 4 D 1 L 2 F 8 A 4 Pts 13
    PPG 1.86
    F 1.14 goals per game
    A 0.57 goals per game

The results do not show our supposed switch from a defensive coach to an attacking one.

We only score more than 1 goal in 1/4 of our games. So unless we can keep a clean sheet every game we risk not winning 3/4 of our games.

Let's hope this new style promised delivers more goals.

So still the best start (just) to a promotion campaign in modern times - sadly unless something radically changes in the tactics and mentality of the players and/or we get a monumental amount of luck, I can't see that continuing for long given that at this point in the other three seasons we had just embarked on long winning streaks.

This is amazing thing, however bad we all think we have been playing and underachieving this is still our best season so far. The question is when will we start to score some goals that give us a chance of a winning run.

Has the manager realised the current plan is not working and try the promised changes?
Will the manager continue in the same way in the blind faith that these goal shy players will come good?
I think everyone knows something needs to change or we will not be challenging for promotion this season.

I still think we have the players to compete for promotion, we just need to find a way to get them performing and scoring goals.

Our defence and wingers are promotion quality. Our central midfield is somewhere between play offs and promotion quality depending on Hughes and where he plays. Our strike force is relegation quality when you're playing Deeney and Gray otherwise I think it would have been at least serviceable. This is reflected in the table currently I think.

Look a lot healthier now. We will lose a few games between now and the end of the Season but hopefully we're picking up form at the right time than too early like some teams like Brentford and Swansea who have shown cracks the last few games. Norwich look insurmountable.

Bear in mind that we've just made up 9 points on Brentford in a week. Also there's the possibility of a win at Carrow Road; a lot can happen yet, so not quite insurmountable.

This week's fixtures could be interesting.

Norwich & Reading play on Tuesday. Norwich could be 10 points ahead before the rest of the pack play.

Swansea I would expect to beat Coventry but after a poor defeat and Coventry soundly beating Brentford on Saturday you never know.
Brentford are without two key players but I would expect them to still beat Sheffield.
Muff play Cardiff, a 2 goal defeat will see Cardiff overtake them into 6th place. You wouldn't have expected that 5 or 6 weeks ago.

Of the top 4 we have the hardest week ahead, but if somehow Norwich lose to Brum tomorrow and we beat Blackburn and Muff we could be a point behind Norwich by the time they kick on on Saturday afternoon so I wouldn't write off Norwich as Champions yet but they will have to go through a rough patch for them to be caught.

Irrespective of Norwich, I maintain that 90 would be required for autos, which is 11 wins from 15 assuming neither Swansea nor Brentford drop too many points from here on.

Brentford are the most likely to choke towards the end, simply because they’ve been so close before. We’ve seen it happen in the past to the likes of Leeds, Derby, Ipswich, Wolves and others.

We need a season 14/15 style run from here to make the top 2.

That 26 match run from the Fulham game at Craven Cottage to the Brighton win read P26 W19 D2 L5, it equated to a phenomenal 2.27 points per match.

Preceded by 4 straight losses on the bounce.

Cant recall it at the time, probably wiped it from my memory, but the forum hysteria from the usual suspects must have been off the scale after those 4 lossess.
