I'm torn, the latter statement is probably true but Ivic was an absolute negative turd and it really was a struggle to like him.

Why would the club want an attack minded head coach whilst backing Deeney at the same time?

Any attack minded coach will see quite quickly he's not the player he used to be and another power struggle will happen when he's dropped again.

On the pitch on matchday with the cameras he does all that yeah.

But is it effective? Does he install that in training and follow through? Given we got relegated with Sarr, Delafeou, Doucoure, and from the overall commitment I've seen over the last few years across many different managers, I'd say no.

If the players aren't committed to the team and don't respect the manager is the captain's job to get them committed. No matter what we see in the pitch Deeney is failing at that

Where does professional pride come in? If a list of head coaches can't motivate them, the captain can't motivate them and they seemingly can't motivate themselves then instead of blaming a string of head coaches and the captain I'd blame the individuals.

Deulofeu, Pereyra and Capoue knew they were out if we went down so seemingly didn't really give a damn. Deulofeu and Pereyra ran away in the summer and Capoue is playing exactly like a bloke who wanted out but couldn't get it done.

Recruitment shouldn't just be about ability - it needs to be on application and professionalism as well and a lot of them are failing on that front.

This is it in a nutshell for me.
You have to be able to trust your team mates, both tactically, technically and with their character.
Too many of our squad talk the talk but shrink like salted snails too often.
It's too easy in football to hide, let the others take the strain.
I,like many thought Gray should have been sold after the first quarantine incident but for all his ineptitude as a so called elite athlete he does not shirk or blame others, point the finger, like some.
This has to begin with Gino,he's allowed this culture to exist and in the last two years,to grow at an alarming rate.
We are sleepwalking and need to change tack now from the top.

To be fair, if the majority of fans couldn't see this and have only just woken up, it's not a surprise that the club don't believe it.

And yet you have people defending the latest coach appointment. Actually defending it.

Professional pride should come in, but it hasn't and the club need to do something about it.

They've tried 17 times changing managers and it's not working.

We need to change players but you can't change a whole squad, but we haven't tried changing the captain. It's mental.

What about the first 8/10 games of the season when Cleverley/Cathcart had the armband? The players were no different then.

I'd say you are vastly overestimating the impact a captain can have. If a squad of talented but underperforming and demotivated players aren't motivated by the shame of being relegated, or the shame of being pumped in a cup final, or hostility from fans (when fans were in the ground) or watching a string of head coaches getting sacked then what impact do you think a single man with an armband is going to have?

Change the players. It'll take three or four windows to rip it up to the extent it needs to be done by but it is the only way.

It doesn't really matter to me how much influence they have. He's an average player on the pitch so we've got nothing to lose moving him on.

Those first games they were covering as matchday captain. They weren't permanent club captain.

I agree we need to b change the players and don't think getting a new captain will make a big difference, but after the last 5 managers all failed to get the most out of the players we need lots of of changes and this is one of them, Deeney is one of the most important players to change. Giraldi leaving was another.

I’ve said before that I think, if we are not promoted this season, there will be a huge upheaval in the playing staff along the lines of 2012, mainly through financial necessity. I expect some contracts to be terminated and some players to be sold at cut price and a swathe of free transfers or loans to arrive. Presumably we will have a new manager by then as well.

Are you suggesting a guy who came from the Georgian League, who has managed all of 11 games, losing one 6-1 to a side from the Faroes is the best we could hope for?

Whatever name anyone comes up with, someone will just say 'We don't know if he'd have come here' or 'He may well have been approached and told us to do one...'

So why suggest names? Paul Cook is a far better candidate for the job. But say that and the above sentences get thrown your way.

I think both things are true really. This team has needed new and proper leadership for a few seasons. I don't count Cleverley or Cathcart...they are merely sub-standard 'next best' options within the corridors. Much the same as Gomes or Marriappa were.

We needed to recruit a player with obvious leadership qualities a number of seasons ago and have him ready to take over 12-18 months ago. Like Henderson naturally took over from Gerrard. Of course, this would have to have included moving Troy on elsewhere as we should have done. While I agree with your points re. the players should be motivated to be better for their own personal pride, I think the right captain can make a HUGE impact. Its literally been proven by many captains and clubs over the years. Troy proved it himself once upon a time...

A real insight into what the squad thinks though. No one mentioned Ben Wilmot yesterday liking a tweet about whether an interview for the job as coach also meant you would be sacked on the same day if you got it.

The players think the club are a laughing stock too. No wonder we can't sign anybody.

I don't disagree that TD should be part of the rebuild, not at all. My original point was that it is a major rebuild and the notion some have that replacing TD will solve all the problems we have is just nonsense.

Totally agree. I think his whole take on things is unpalatable in the public eye and he should have been pulled from the show by the club.
But given he was allowed on, and allowed to comment...I expected him to say what he did about the 'disciplinary' issue at the weekend.

But the comment you've linked above is just ridiculous for him to come out with. Let those outside the club make such comments - it's wild to fuel them yourself as club captain. May as well say 'My employers are mental - but I have them over a barrel and they pay me well to do so.'

I don't think any think it will cure ALL the issues.

But it's the obvious and only place to start. But sadly, it can't be done in January. We just can't bin off the captain mid-season with sub-standard options in reserve.

As much as he's shown himself to be no better a CB option than we had already, I wonder if giving the armband to Troost-Ekong at some stage might bring more out of him? Captains his country after all.

At one point of his interview this morning he states, as Captain, it's his job to be 'eyes and ears, keep stuff in-house and be first in and last out'...

The lack of self-awareness is staggering.

Although he says the stuff re. 'phones in the training ground' was true but the 'permission to play music' thing isn't.

Even FTRE are using the 'rotten' word.

They're right, it's a whole club issue, bigger than manager or any one or two players.

Gino needs a serious rethink of the whole club setup.

Personally I think players not liking Ivic or enjoying his style of play was the final straw for the owners. Anyone could see that in the games we were regressing not progressing as the season went on.

He's not thick. He knows he can get away with it, and he knows any damage he does to his employability as a player will be nothing compared to the benefits of his media personality.

Look at the tweet replies. People love him as he's "not scared about his media image" as if this isnt entirely to set himself up for it. Idiots love people who "speak their mind," just look at politics.

Well we know self awreness doesn't exist in our strikers.

Look at Andre Gray and Success - more noted for their off field actions than those on it and not really pulled up on it by anyone including the captain.

I’ve wanted Troy out purely based on ability for some time. It was madness him starting ahead of a fit Welbeck at the end of last season.

Then there are the obvious behind the scenes issues with player power and now his increased need to be rent-a-gob persona for the sake of his media career.

But really the final straw for me was during his show earlier when he said ‘Troy Deeney wants to play football’.

In my eyes anyone who refers to themselves in the third person is instantly categorised as a complete and utter **** of the highest order.

We won't be promoted. We'll finish in mid-table obscurity. Don't be surprised if the Pozzos sell out like they did at Granada CF. With a bit of luck we'll end up with a much wealthier, less meddlesome new owner.

Granada. 6th in La Liga, 4 points off the CL places with a game in hand and with a Europa League game against Napoli to come.

I'm sure some of their fans said 'we'll just get mercenary owners' when it was announced that Pozzo was selling.

Sold after being asset stripped by the Pozzos, got relegated, rebuilt with young players, loans and canny signings. Now in Europe and poaching our best talent from us for a fraction of his market value. How times have changed since they were the poor relations in the Pozzo triumvirate.
