Would love someone to pull up his stats as some pretty polarised opinions on his contribution.

Have to say that based on the past 18 months my view is that he's lacked any sort of pace or work rate, shown as little defensively as going forward and been as guilty as anyone of lacking end product. Happy for the stats to prove me wrong but would side myself with those who consider him as a frustrating disappointment at this point.

Yes he did show a bit of fight against Abu Dhabi, strange that? Oh! wait a minute, could he have been trying to impress potential buyers

Don’t quite get all the dislike towards him really. Was the first real quality player we brought in during our premiership stint and on his day was one of the most incredible footballers to watch. Injuries caught up to him. All the best wherever you end up Bobby.

I used to work in St John's wood and used to see him and Prodl in the expensive Coffee Shop quite alot. Prodl was often with girls a lot younger and lot better looking than him.

Wouldn't Prodl be considered a bit of a hunk and loaded to boot? An rich attractive Alpha - what's not to like?

So that's where he was doing his playing, because it certainly wasn't on the football pitch

Technically, he was great, and for a spell before his injury, he looked really good, displaying plenty of the heart and desire needed to be a success in this country.

Injury definitely seemed to take away the step of speed he needed to get away from defenders, and he never really adjusted his game to compensate, although he did put together a strong run of form under Gracia at one point.

He’ll leave us, in my mind, with a sense of what could have been, had various things gone differently. It’s a shame that his form and mindset this season has left me completely happy with his moving on.

We've never given him a striker he can play with. Never really played a style of football suited to him. Brilliant player, always felt he tried too before this season. Good luck Roberto.

Still say he's been wasted on the wing. Should have been played far more consistently behind the striker.

Hmm. While I agree that he wasn’t given more of a chance to show what he can do centrally, these days you need to still put in effort in that position - Pereyra was just too willing to be a passenger too often...I don’t think where he was playing was a big part of that.

As I’ve said before, I will still give him plenty of respect as he was willing to join us and that was quite some statement alone. And I think having a player like him at the club was only good for everyone and probably attracted other players over the years.

Has given us some memorable times - but for a player of his ability to be so anonymous and so often was criminal last season. Was undoubtedly part of the rot that set in within the squad. We were told by many players that he was by far and away the best player they played with in training - his ability to show that class on a match day has been declining for 2 years and is now non-existent.

With the needs of the club changing, it will be good for both parties to part ways. That’s not to say a revitalised Pereyra wouldn’t run through the Championship though!

I disagree about the idea of sort of "needing to put a shift in" in that position as if it's the only possible way to go and a complete necessity. You cannot expect to have a full XI of workhorses, and if you do then you're likely going to find that most of them are desperately lacking in any real quality, which is what we found - nowhere near enough technical ability or creativity in our line up week in, week out.

In a formation where you have one striker, in our case Deeney who has had little to no goal threat, and two defensive midfielders, we really should have rolled the dice on giving a more creative, talented player like Pereyra a run at number 10 over the hopeless, clogger, workhorses like Doucoure and Cleverley who can't pass, can't dribble, can't keep the ball and can't shoot.

    Bit harsh on Doucoure?

He didn't show it for us as much this season but he has some of those things on a good day ..

Pereyra would be good if he just didn't fall over at the first touch he gets.

Even GD and Sarr don't do that so much.

Mind you good point though - you don't just want 11 men running around like headless chicken showing "passion"..

He's been absolute horse crap for 18 months, and he's a box to box midfielder, not someone you put behind the striker. Hasn't got the craft or shooting ability, constantly shanking everything wide or ballooing over the bar.

Would have happily seen him on the bench with Pereyra in behind the striker and Hughes and Capoue deep protecting the back line.

Yes I agree he is supposed to be that.

Just think in theory he is meant to be better than Cleverley ability wise.

for me when you see someone with a lot of talent like Bobby its almost heartbreaking when you see them phoning it in, it’s a long time since we have seen the baby shark celebrating Bobby P perform week in week out. Like you I do wish him the best wherever he goes.

The most pathetic player last season, deserves a hundred times more criticism than players like Deeney, who at least puts some effort in. Our most talented player, but has been missing for months. Just doesn’t have the cajones for the English game

Checked in on his stats for expected goals from open play and assists (npxgp, sourced from FBRef) and results are pretty damning. Compared to all players of a similar position and who played a reasonable number of minutes (c.800+) in the Premier League bottom ten clubs he comes joint last with Fornals.

    Yarmolenko 0.42
    Richarlison 0.41
    Welbeck 0.41
    Sarr 0.40
    Boufal 0.40
    Walcott 0.39
    Trossard 0.37
    King 0.36
    Gross 0.35
    Grealish 0.35
    Buendia 0.35
    El Ghazi 0.34
    Harry Wilson 0.33
    Saint-Maximim 0.32
    Fraser 0.32
    Snodgrass 0.32
    Anderson 0.32
    Cantwell 0.31
    Lanzini 0.30
    Iwobi 0.26
    Redmond 0.26
    Solanki 0.25
    Ayew 0.24
    Mooy 0.23
    Zaha 0.23
    Almiron
    Hernandez 0.23
    Bernard 0.22
    Trezeguet 0.21
    Fornals 0.20
    Pereyra 0.20

Understand stats aren't everything but I think it's reasonable to expect anyone in your attacking positions to make goal scoring chances and assists. Good that's he's moving on.

Good info, and isn't a surprise as far as Pereyra is concerned.

Welbeck goes to show that expected goals and assists aren't everything though - it's long been said of him that he needs 2 or 3 gilt-edged chances for every 1 he manages to finish, it's one of the main reasons why he's never been able to hold down a CF spot at a decent club.

Funny to see how terrible Zaha's numbers were last season, Palace would do well to get enough money from selling him to even contemplate being able to afford Sarr - he seems to have been dining out and past performances a bit and Sarr could well be a better player now at a younger age. However much Zaha is supposedly worth, Sarr is worth more.

Putting a shift in doesn’t have to mean literally running yourself into the ground. For the past 18 months he’s basically become Holebas, he’s shown us in the past he’s got the skill and ability to cut in, beat a man or two (or about six against Huddersfield) and curl a shot away. But for a long while now all he's done is half heartedly knock the ball into the defenders legs.

I think it should be said that looking at npxgp alone isn't really sufficient for an out and out striker, it's more an indication of how many dangerous chances they create. If you were to look at this alongside goals/shot, shots on target etc. and compared that to other strikers I think that would show Welbeck much more unfavourably. For this though, I was comparing Pereyra to other wide players so thinking about Welbeck when he's out on the left rather than through the middle.

I think the point on Zaha is that most of his danger comes from winning set pieces, he doesn't actually make many chances from open play. So the number of expected goals he makes from open play is not actually that high and is reflected in his stats.

Even still, he was way below his best last season. I wouldn't be surprised if his most productive seasons are behind him, even if he gets a move.

"Genoa, which will announce the new coach in the next few hours, is about to close an important negotiation. In fact, the return to Italy of Roberto Pereyra is very close, until a few days ago we thought of a return to Udine, but in the last hours Genoa has initiated contacts with Watford in a very decisive way, moving into an advanced state of the negotiations."

He wants to go, I honestly don't care where he goes as long as it's a good deal, and the funds help us keep players that I would rather we didn't lose.

Would rather he goes to somewhere other than Udinese. I’m not convinced of the financial merits for us ‘selling’ him to them.

The euphoria of the baby shark goal days to his apathy and lack of effort of last season. The Yin and Yan of Roberto Pereyra and supporting Watford.

The sooner he goes the better (sadly). Hopefully we can get a semi reasonable fee for him if he goes to Genoa.
