I only moved back from the UK in May but admittedly I was up North on the Wirral, yes you could get farm produce but rarely what you wanted and "bio?", hardly, even if they tell you it is. Of course I could've gone to Chester market but there I'd be paying London prices. The only thing I consistently rate the UK for is fresh fish if you're near the coast and local specialities such as pasties in Cornwall.

You're right, Spanish veg quality has dropped, probably as growers are mostly all geared to churn out for the supermarkets nowadays (as they are in the UK) and their poor economy makes the good stuff too expensive for most locals.

For the best food in Europe go to Austria.

The sheer amount of thick, radioactive smugness oozing out of this post like an open sore is causing me to feel physically nauseated, transmitted all the way through the interwebs to my screen and out on to me.

I will admit that the one thing that does let us down here is fish, fresh or otherwise. Living in the Midlands when I buy "fresh fish", it's as though it swam up the local river for 150 miles to get to the slab.

The best meal I have ever eaten was in Vienna, with a Serb, the son of a Bosnian Prime Minister and a Slovene just before Yugoslavia broke up acrimoniously. They were friends from University and had worked for the same company for 15 years. Two years later, none of them would speak with any of the others, each blaming the other emergent countries for the war. The meal was finished off with 90 year old Armagnac and its cost was just short of 900 Euros for the four of us. I was not paying.

Anyway, before others start accusing me of "thick, radioactive smugness" causing all those ailments to certain folks on here, I'll finish.

German food good? Yeah, if you like a plate piled high with meat for every single meal it's fantastic.

Vic - What about the amazing fish market near to the Bullring in Birmingham? Us Kremlins were visiting a university open day in Brum last weekend and took the opportunity to go into the centre. I suppose because it is so multicultural there, the variety of fish and meat and fruit & veg made your head spin.

Here in Cameron's very un-multicultural cosy Cotswolds, they believe a pot of tea and a jam scone to be a gastronomic treat and an Indian tikka takeaway to be pushing the boundaries of exotic experimentation. They are Conservative in all the senses of the word. We have to travel to the county town to buy green plantain. There is good English seasonal fruit and veg from the market though and the meat from the butchers is pretty good usually.

In that bullring market there must have been 30 fish stalls all next to one another and just about every fish, shellfish and every other aquatic animal that ever swam in water was for sale. Our jaws dropped. We were in heaven. Shark and conger eel. Parrot fish. Red or Black Tilapia, Swordfish. Flying fish. Many, many more I've never even heard of.

We bought red tilapia and swordfish. Both were excellent and a reasonable price too.

I would say that was the best fish market, for variety, that I have seen in the world - including in fishing towns.

I wish I knew everything about everything like Godfather does .

I wonder if sending him back is part of the Germans' conditions in the Brexit negotiations .

Even for you Clive that comment is just prejudiced b*llox.

    "Every aspect"??

I'm sure most would believe the variety of cuisines available in this country are now due to Brits holidaying abroad and immigrants opening up exotic food restaurants and takeaways.
The 'implicit belief' you speak of is in your mind and I'm sure does not reflect the reality of the majority of Brits.
And how do you know what Trump thinks of the American hamburger in relation to world cuisine? For all his faults he is well travelled and would imagine he has sampled and enjoyed many an exotic dish.
Again, just showing your one sided predudice.

And there is the Frenchie thing.

My rule is that if Clare Balding approves, we’re fine.

    In life.

    Back to the interview..

It shows Rich is very grounded and hopefully he's not affected too much by his 2 glaring 50pence headers vs Chelski.

They were a game changer as we could have been 4-1 up.

Hopefully a Deeney/Gomes/Silva arm around his shoulder and a determination to destroy a shakey looking Stoke team next week.

When people say that we would have been 4-1 up if Richarlison had scored both his chances, are they forgetting that Pereyra scored about 30 seconds after Richarlison's first miss?

Correct, the first miss is rendered irrelevant by this. Indeed if Richarlison scored the first, the entire passage of the game changes and the Pereyra goal and Richarlison's second miss never even happen. What game would have panned out instead? We will never know.

The second miss was the costly one.

British food has improved no end in recent times.
I never see people on Facebook posting pics of Fray Bentos pies or Brains faggots like what i had to eat when i was a lad. Now it's all posh foreign foods like spag bog or pulled sausage.

Mind you we are good at the old foreign foods. Look how we took curry & kebabs and improved them.

  21. Sahorn

Not just the old foreign foods.
I have it on good authority that Cumberland sausages are sometimes made in Hertfordshire.
And they get very upset about it but Cornish pasties are also made in Devon.
    Believe that if you will.

Also note that whilst Richie is the most fouled player in the Prem, he has been booked only once (when he took his shirt off vs Swansea).

Great maturity for a 20 yo new to the country.

Also, Holebas has not been booked this season against a Prem 2 side. (Only MCFC & Chelsea.)

    I'm turning into Malteser.

A Chinese person impersonating Basil Fawlty in the 'Germans' episode?

A Chinese version of Basil Fawlty??

They may be stretching their military hamstrings in the South China Sea but hands off Torquay!
