Let's face facts - Silva wants out because his head has been turned by a bigger club - will he be our manager next week - no I don't think he will. The club knows this and are playing hardball ... but make no mistake Gino and Duxbury are lining up a replacement. They don't want someone here who wants to be elsewhere. We all know deep down who we are - we are Watford and we are susceptible to vultures whenever anyone at our clubs does well for a few months. We are a threat now as a club, we're growing and progressing on and off the pitch - now we are getting the unwanted attention in the same way as happened to Southampton. We have a structure at our club that has served us well when there have been changes and we will continue to grow and get bigger and better because of this. The situation is massively frustrating but now I think the question is, who realistically can we attract to replace Silva? Here's a list of a few. (Some of the names I have seen mentioned in other posts) Ronald koeman Marcelo gallardo Paulo Fonsecca Paulo Bento Christophe galtier Van bronckhorst Martin O'Neill Ryan Giggs A.Trialist ..... sure there are plenty of others Who do you want ?
Ronald koeman - HELL NO Marcelo gallardo - HMMMMM Paulo Fonsecca- MAYBE Paulo Bento - HMMMM Christophe galtier - HMMMM Van bronckhorst - HELL NO Martin O'Neill - HELL NO Ryan Giggs - HELL NO Personally, I'd like to see Gian Piero Gasperini from Atalanta...he's got them playing good football and they're very hard to beat. or maybe Thomas Tuchel.
I wouldn't say no to someone like Ian Holloway. He'd come in and steady the ship until the end of the season, when we can make a more permanent appointment.
Not really, he got Atalanta into Europe, they destroyed Everton back in September, granted under Koeman - but they played some great stuff and should have won by more. Only downside is he's in Europe so probably won't want to move.
Gasperini is a good shout - originally I thought he maybe a bit too old school Italian similar to Bepe and Wally
It's a bit ironic isnt it. How much we've been up in arms at the arrogance of Everton going after a serving manager mid season and disrupting our club. Yet as soon as we discuss getting a replacement at least half of those mentioned are serving managers at other clubs!
There's no transfer window for coaches and the lure of the Premiership is quite a big one. Would you prefer an unemployed coach disregarding the fact they're unemployed for a reason? Maybe time to step down from the high horse.
So the same applies to Everton yeah? If there's any high horse here it's being ridden by those that got so uptight with another club making an approach on our manager.. but are quite happy to suggest we do the same.
Don’t need a replacement, Silva is staying. Stop listening the BS media. Watford have stated their position that Silva will not leave, they won’t entertain any offers from Everton or any club abroad.
So how will having the moral high ground help us? If other clubs do it, then we'd be fools for doing anything different. I'm more annoyed at the tapping up if it proves to be the case. If the 'approach' is legitimate with permission to speak him granted then I don't have an issue with it.
Let's get that fellow from Fulham in - what's his name? Think he could do something good with this squad....
I'm not talking about what we should do Mr.Gags.. or any "moral high ground" (where do you get that from?) I'm talking about how sometimes football supporters slate clubs for doing things they'd quite happily see their own club do. You didnt like the alleged "tapping up".. fair enough.. but others have expressed their annoyance at the approach of a manager who is currently employed. Tapping up or no tapping up. Further to that.. if we are to believe what has been written in the press then Gino was aware of the approach. It's been suggested he refused Everton initial inquiries. If this is true then it's not really tapping up.. but we will need to wait for an official statement before we get the truth about that one.
No replacement is required. Watford board will not allow Silva to go at any price. That's the end of the matter. Silva has to force the issue, hand in his resignation for it to move on from here, and I honestly believe he will not do this. It will damage his career in the long term.
Call me a conspiracy theorist, however is it coincidence that the last game was Everton away, and since then 2 approaches have been made? I'm convinced someone got in his ear a couple of weeks ago.
You could well be right. Thought the same myself. I guess we have to wait for an official complaint to confirm that though.. all this paper talk of "our sources believe" means less than the paper it's printed on.
Without a doubt. I guess I'm fatigued from speculation, I was hoping for another 3/4 months peace before the 'Replacement for Silva' thread popped up.
We need a young forward thinking manager, someone like Big Sam, David Moyes or Roy Hodgson would fit the bill perfectly. Maybe we could tempt either Hughes from West Brom or Pulis from Stoke, I know these are big names but we are a big club now so we should go for it.
