Sheffield United, Newcastle and Watford. We will occupy a place in the bottom 5 all season. No player wants to come to Watford. We cannot attract any new players. Brighton, Bournemouth, Norwich all seem capable of recruiting new players, but not us. You have to ask why?
I think we are in for a shock It is a tougher league this season. No Fulham or Huddetsfield, who were both out of it by November. Complacency is what some other fans have said we need to guard against, yet we appear to be sleepwalking into the Championship Let the players prove us wrong.
I am rarely over confident pre season and this is no different. Our lack of spend, strong spend by teams that were top half last year, no Huddersfield or Fulham and some stronger teams replacing them suggests we will struggle. A poor start could be a real problem. Brighton is a must win 6 pointer Expecting bottom 6 this year. Hoping not bottom three. But Watford are a club that surprises - so Europe here we come.
Exactly. They have never been right, why on earth would that change this year? Have they suddenly all developed powers of sense and reason? No, of course not.
We were also screwed by injury to Quina etc preventing Garcia rotating Capone/Doucoure; and Deeney getting sent off; and Foster & Cathcart having brain farts throwing probably 4 points away. Still, how DARE we not finish way above the level even GT only managed once in the days when the ‘playing field’ was significantly more level.
Dawson has been one of the most effective non top 6 defenders over the last 5 years. In slightly different circumstances, Maguire would have been Dawson.
Don’t we need a £20-40m net sale each year to balance the books? A 30k stadium won’t change that much. Nor will the Europa League. Only CL would.
Assuming we could fill it 30k stadium plus associated revenues makes a huge difference? Revenue up 50% in that area.
What the Pozzos have in abundance, though, is footballing social capital. A ****y term for experience, contacts & reputation. We win a decent number of signatures through trust that we’ll do the best job for the player over the next 2-3 years. Kudos to Pozzo. But not a strategy which any other owner of similar wealth could execute successfully. The chances are, on current evidence, that Pozzo will sell to someone richer than him. That would be our chance of top 6.
But small compared to tv money. And you have to pay for/amortise the cost of building. I suspect the main benefit of a big, modern stadium is as a mktg tool to attract top players.
God knows, I get all my info from other forum members, who no doubt just make it all up. But I pass it off as gospel in real life, obvs.
But we all get similar TV money. We struggle because our other revenue streams are much smaller than other clubs (and no sugar daddy). If we could fill out 30k per week that is the only significant way to grow the other revenues.
Actually, did not mean to post it as a "reply" to UEA but as a general "reply" post aimed at some of the less "reasonable" posts on this thread, so, yes, it does look well out of context. That's what comes with trying to post on here via my phone when sitting on a delayed plane waiting to take off, I suppose...hit the wrong link.
The protest is going well. Doesn't get nearly as much coverage as that Hong Kong one, despite our one being wildly successful.
