Red Cards

As you all know we have had 3 red cards in our last 3 games and two of those cards have been rescinded.

It is great that they have been rescinded, but is it fair that that is all we get, seeing as we have wrongly lost a player in two games and we get no sort of compensation for those loses even though the loss of those two players will have had some sort detrimental effect on our teams performance and almost certainly had an influence on the result of those two games games. Plus because our players had to work harder when down to 10 men, it could also have an effect on the teams overall fitness levels and possibly even cause some injuries that would not have occurred otherwise.

I don't know the answer to this, but surely when a team is wrongly punished like this there should be some sort of recompense, even if it is only financial?

I just thought I would put this out there for discussion, what do you guys think?

Only one has been rescinded hasn't it?

I remember we had a phase like this before with players getting sent off but the red card being overturned.

Probably just makes people think we are dirty and gives us a bad reptuation.

Palace fans must be seething we've had players sent off since we played them given they plus their chairman seemed to think we should have had about 4/5 players red carded for "kicking Zaha out of the game!

Doubt anything will happen but clubs can get fined for poor discipline record so presume these overturned red cards don't count...

Neither Kabasele or Mariappa set out to hurt anyone badly - just one got caught going in a bit late and one pulled down a player clean through when he thought someone was covering.

The financial compensation for Pereyra missing 5 minutes at home to Tranmere in the 3rd round of the cup would be about £10.

Think we should probably be paying them given recent performances.

That was not my point as I thought everybody would well know. I am talking in GENERAL for all teams and all rescinded red cards not just us, although we have had our fair share of these miscarriages of justice over the years.

To me it seems only fair that teams should be compensated in some way for a player being wrongly sent off, and I am asking what people might think would be a way of compensating teams that have suffered in this way.

Why do they need to be compensated? Errors by officials are part and parcel of every sport. And it's impossible to say everything would have turned out fine if not for a sending off. There are loads of example of teams perking up and focusing harder and winning a game with 10 men when they were doing little with 11.

Without wanting to sound like a conspiracy theorist does anyone know how many straight red cards we have had and how many have been overturned on appeal since promotion? How does this compare to other clubs?

The FA knows. But if they told you they'd have to kill you.

Human error goes with the territory. I'm all for making things fairer and more consistent, but compensation when something goes pear shaped isn't necessary. There are inevitably going to be mistakes.

What matters to me is that we make progress towards reducing the number of errors that arise, not pointless punitive measures/reparations after the fact.

Sounds like the makings of the next conspiracy theory: QQAnon.

Every red card decision needs to be referred to Video ref. As does every goal or penalty decision.

Captain/manager should also have a 3 challenge system like they do in tennis. Reviews need to be broadcast as does the conversation between ref & review team, like they do in rugby. The time take isn't an issue, it's the not knowign what's going on that people hate.

3 challenges? That would take an absolute age.

Why not just one? That would add an interesting element of strategic decision-making, too.

They way it works in tennis is a challenge if denied on revivew is spent, if upheld then the player doesn't lose one. Don't see why it would take ages. Soulh only be used in situations where the game has stopped. So offside, corner, card, penalty, goal etc.

Well, it's taking ages at the moment without the possibiity to challenge, why would that time reduce?

Surely tennis is different. The challenge goes to a computer, which simply rules on the line call. But in football, the challenge will go to humans who then make a judgment. As we have seen, that can take some time.

I don't think you are comparing like with like.

WillisWasTheWorst Its making less grammar mistake's thats important

Nothing is 'referred to' the VAR. A defined list of incidents are 'considered by' the VAR. In the case of red cards this includes when the ref has given nothing but the VAR thinks it could be a potential sending off. This is similar to considering penalty awards when the ref has waved play on.
