If he gets off I will ask the mods to ban this username and I'll create a new one called 'hb1isalwaysright'

The point I'm making is anything can look like whatever you want it to in a still.

If that's the most damning photo you can find, then I do not think it holds much weight at all. You see Zeegelaar laying on his back, one foot firmly on the floor and the other could easily be between the legs of his opponent. It looks fairly innocuous to me.

It certainly does not show Zeegelaar launching himself two footed in a reckless, leg breaker tackle, as it has been described by some on here.

I’m still undecided on whether it was the right decision but if you’re basing your judgement on still frame pictures then you’re barking up the wrong tree imo

“Halfwayline, this tackle is not dangerous”. Wow that was easy

Bloody stupid decision to appeal. At best it was 50/50 - I actually thought it was red plus deserved a 3 match ban for the stupidity of the tackle in any case.

Likely to rub the authorities up the wrong way if appeal something like this

Last time we played Burnley didn't a load of you complain that we didn't get stuck in? Now we do it's all, 'what's he doing making tackle like that on the half way line?' I bet the same moaners would be complaining if Zegelaar had just stuck his foot in like a wimp.
Did any of you watch Match of the Day 2? On that it showed at least 2 similar tackles which resulted in yellow cards. As far as I know, players are allowed to slide tackle and if they don't point their foot like a ballerina I don't think they deserve to be sent off.

    I agree, it's disgraceful.

How Defour didn't get a red card for elbowing Zeegelar to the floor is beyond me.

Hendrick sent off at Vicarage Road last season - similar situation. Player's fault for reckless tackle.

Hope so. Then certain posters on here will stop droning on about a pretty uncontroversual red card and how we are the victims!

Lancy - if you can't tell the difference between the tackle in HWLs post above and this challenge, then there's no point us having a sensible discussion.

I shall bring my Homer Odyssey dual translation by A T Murray to inspire Holebas and then launch it at him as he gets sent off!

Absolutely no shock there. It was arguable either way and therefore the footballing equivalent of 'umpire's call' in a cricket DRS review.

I suspect we only attempted an appeal on the basis that Janmaat is injury prone and we could end up with Holebas being our only recognised full back.

We stood absolutely no chance of being successful.

Zaha has been playing up front the past few weeks but drifting out to the right it seems. Both pens against Bournemouth were on that side of the pitch. Kabasele and Holebas are in for a tricky night...

    "Just break him!"

Not surprised in the slightest. Real clutching at straws by the club and a few on here. Is Holebas ok to play?

holebas is better than zeeg. Yes we need cover, but this is nowhere near as crippling as if someone vital like Gray got injured

Outrageous decision, it's clear Zeeglaar was ankled in the studs by that Burnley cheat.

Having said that, I hate Dyche more than ever.

They've added another seven games to the ban. Nothing angers the FA more than a club showing such flagrant disrespect by using their right to appeal a contentious red card decision. I expect it'll be a heavy points deduction or possibly even liquidation the next time someone steps out of line.

Seems to me that we appealed on the basis of what pundits or guys in the pub say after they’ve watched it from 10 possible angles and in the slowest of slow motions available. Not on the basis of whether it was against the laws of the game or the new directive of tackling.

The FA don’t really like football being a combative, contact sport anymore so this appeal was always going to fail. It was harsh to send him off but the referee got one look at it in real time and I don’t think he got it that wrong.

It’s all very well saying there were plenty of other similar tackles in other games that weekend and calling for consistency. But all that would achieve is more red cards, not less.
