The soles of my beloved DM Chelsea boots have finally had it. I was going to replace them but I'm baulking at the £139 price tag (TBF one shop in Watford). I've heard a rumour that Timpson's *may* do this - my local independent cobbler could only offer a patch...
I know, that why I prefer to use them. I was going to ask the extremely large and intimidating guy in B'wood's one if he had had "...a taste of porridge..." but I thought better of it. Anyhow he took my MADE IN ENGLAND DM's and £73 from me and he'll call me back in a week.
When I first found this out my initial thoughts were why give someone who could have done time for burglary a set of house keys to copy. But the model has proved on the whole to be a massive asset to those involved and to the community as a whole in helping keep re offending through desperation down. Some good info albeit marketing bull here: https://www.timpson-group.co.uk/timpson-foundation/ex-offenders/
TBF from what I've heard from screws, lags, cops and people involved with the parole service there's very little marketing pixie dust been sprinkled on that info. The figures on UK re-offending rates are very saddening Ken Clarke's proposals to do something about this were far too politically unpalatable - it's a shame we don't have a forum in which to discuss this. John Timpson's appearance on Desert Island Discs is one of the best I've ever heard. His wife "walks the walk instead of just talking the talk" as well.
