I think that with 2 pre-season friendlies under our belts, it's time to judge the signings that the Pozzos have made this summer and predict how they are going to do Foster - 4/10 not as good as Gomes at the same age. Expect some terrible errors early on which will blight the memories of his previous spell here, from which he'll never recover Sema - 0 this season's Lukebakio. Will Grace us with 2 ineffectual sub appearances before never being seen or heard of again. Highlight will be when he scores in A Champions League qualifier against Liverpool in 6 years time for a Swedish side and someone reminds us that we used to own him Delofeu - 5 will be amazing for 3 games before his season ending injury in the late August sunshine Wilmot - 2 ignominious display in cup exit, a few appearances as an unused sub. Loaned to forest then sold to forest. Navarro - 3 this season's Zeeglaar. Races out of the blocks with 2 dynamic appearances at full back until it becomes apparent that he is defensively as effective as mustard powder is for soothing grazes Masina - 6 takes over from Holebas and despite being just slightly worse than the Greek, is just that much more likeable. Did we sign anyone else?
Disappointed to read of your negativity, have you thought it may be better to give the new players a chance instead of coming to conclusions after three weeks training and two halfs of friendlys played!
No homophobic, racist ex-scummers this window, yet. So I'm happy to give them all a chance to show what they can do before judging, at the moment I'm assuming they will all be terrific.
Moog being his usual sarcastic and motivating self... gotta love him. Personally as long as they try hard and stay off the medic table long term I’ll judge them maybe around our Xmas slump, before they join Holebas in the “diwn tools brigade”.
Let's face it: we've done appalling business this summer. Gracia has all of the pulling power of a scabies-ridden transvestite at a swingers party. We've somehow contrived to make an already weak squad worse. Ken Sema will be this season's Geoffory Jumanji Bia or whatever the f*ck his name was. We're soooo overloaded with mediocre full backs now and still have a rag tag and bobbins central defence. Our forwards look more like the rogue's gallery from a recent bank heist than a Premier League football strikeforce. Nailed on for relegation.
Additions look fine in isolation. I expect Masina to solve a lot of our left back problems. However it will always come back to lack of upgrades so far at CB and up front. This was obvious to everyone in the run in last year but bafflingly the recruitment team don’t see things the same way. The approach to the centre backs I find especially odd. New contracts for Britons and Prodl? It’s as if they are genuinely happy with what we have there. As things stand I think we have one of the weakest 3 squads in the division so Gracia will do well to keep us up. Hopefully the Giraldi and team will rectify this with some of the Richarlison inflow and get rid of plenty of our substandard deadwood.
If there are no more additions then I agree but I'm hoping we have a number of targets lined up and terms agreed just waiting for the Richie deal to complete to free up the funds. If we start the season with what we have now, I fear Gino has either thrown in the towel or seriously underestimated what it takes to stay in the prem. Complacency from three seasons with no serious relegation struggle ?
Unless some of our so far unimpressive players such as Success, Peneranda, Sinclair etc. finally live up to their original potential, and yes I just saw a flock of pigs fly past , I have to say I agree with you.
Chalabah, Cleverly and deloufea are three reasons as to why we will be stronger than last season, plus Foster is a good keeper, we will bo fine!
If Cleverley does hit his fore mention return date in the Autum then great. Foster seems to be quite liked around Watford so hopefully should fit in well. Gomes has done a magnificent service to this club considering his footballing age so to speak, in more than happy for him to appear as a sub or in cups. Success is a good footballer, he has it in him to do well, he just needs to motivate himself. Deeney is never going to bang in 20 a season anymore we know that, but please can we get him and Gray on the pitch TOGETHER? They need to learn each others runs and maybe if Gray can finish those one on ones he could be great. Gracia has to be the main motivator of course, and he shoykd if seen enough from last season on what needs working on. Can we stay up again? Yes, but for how long can we rely on other teams stuffing up to keep our heads above water?
Assuming we don't need to factor in the additional 3-6 months "watford medical team factor" to Cleverley's planned recovery timeframe and that Chalobah comes back "as good as new".
As far as I'm aware Cleverly is under a DNR at our treatment centre, Chalobah is MIA and Delofeou is WTF
I'd disagree slightly as I reckon we (fitness permitting) have the best midfield outside of the top 6. Not many could match Doucoure/Chalobah/Capoue/Hughes/Bobby P etc. Defence and Strikers are a concern though.
Check out the highlights video on the official site for the friendly Vs Dusseldorf. It was miserable viewing. It's time to nip this terrible summer of transfer ******** in the bud. Like Aidy's first season, we need a 2nd, renewed transfer push and hopefully get these hopeless jokers out of the door and some proper, ambitious signings in, before the window slams shut. Sema, Navarro and Wilmott are the new Devaney, Sietes and Junior
They'll all be fantastic until the temperature drops close to zero, then they all disappear, (as usual).
I dunno judging players before they've played is one thing but mentioning sub zero temperatures in a heatwave is bang out of order
Most will be complete and utter flops and loaned out to some nothing team in Eastern Europe by the end of the January transfer window. Good times.
I am happy enough with our signings so far. Foster is a proven quality GK and loves us. We have strengthened the full backs. CBs still a bit of a worry. Is Kaboul actually fit? Wilmot and Navarro can play there but is currently a grey area. More than happy with midfield and out wide. Sema could be a find. Success appears to be in contention up top but is Peneranda going to feature? Which leads to the major concern - a new proven front man. This is now the clear priority as most of our rivals are targeting quality. We do not seem to be linked to any major targets. Just hope Gino pulls off a coup. Less interested in how much we pay just hoping they come with the right attributes and desire.
