Totally agree. Out of all the strikers we have, it's only Gray who would have made that run. The trouble is, he's just useless when the ball comes to him. I cannot hate the guy though. He runs, never hides, gets into the correct position so often, but is absolutely crap technically. Technically he's League One only.

He cannot even weight a pass correctly. So frustrating, but the club mugged themselves off with him. They are paying him £70k per week, the highest wage earner at the club. Another ridiculous decision by the club giving a player of his limitations a contract like that.

I wholly agree with you on Gray. It’s such a shame, because he’s proved himself a very willing member of the squad in the 2+ years he’s been with us but he just hasn’t got it. I feel that was evident from his very first appearance, which begs the question: is it possible for a footballer to improve his technique in the middle of his career? (He was 26 when he joined Watford.) If the answer is yes, have the coaches at the club done enough to encourage and indeed coach him to get better?

Although... 2 points vs Sheff Utd, Wolves, Arsenal and Man City

is better than 1 point vs Brighton, Everton, West Ham and Newcastle.

Only one more point, but a more difficult 4 games.

My feelings too. He just isn't good enough, but at least he does try. And to be fair he's got some vital goals for us, but my goodness if he has time to think, you know he won't score.

He always seems better when he comes on a sub.

I thought Deeney was paid more than him?

No.....Gray is the highest earner. Deeney is on a little less. Doucoure's new contract bumped him up to the same as Gray. Both are on £70k. No one is on more.

Is there any reason at all to think that website is bonafide rather than just a load of made up numbers?

Very sceptical of this website, it's just guesswork. There is no way a US sports website has access to the contract details of every Watford player. It doesn't even stack up logically - Pereyra joined from Juventus as a star player and Prodl signed an extension as a squad player and yet they're supposedly on the same? It's just made up!

That's nothing. I'm on £145k a week. But I'm not telling you which member of the squad I am.

My question wasn't a jab at you, it was simply me wondering if there was some reason to believe that particular website. Evidently there isn't so I'll lump for 'disbelieve' and leave it there.

I still have time for him as a squad player. We know what we get with Andre and it is foolish to expect more.

Coming on as a sub to nick a winner or equaliser is fine. He should never be starting games.

I saw enough of Welbeck in the first half to believe that if we can get him 90 minute fit, he's the most all round forward we have, albeit he missed a chance too.

Gino's squad is like my network of accounts. It's all just one big tax write off.

That's not enough to be considered significant, surely.

If Quique takes average 2 points a game for the rest of the season then there's some pattern to observe, but one draw is not something we can draw (NPI) any significance from.

It was reported when he signed that DW was on a basic of 30k, with a bonus of 40k if he played. Not sure if true or just tabloid speculation.

I know.....it's like a gardener comparing one pile of horse manure to another for his compost......at the end of the day.....it's still all sh1t.

Not sure I agree it's still all sh1t, I'd much rather have to pick up horse manure than dog sh1t ;)

Cheers. I’d assumed it would be a lot higher given who else was supposedly in for him

Speaking of Gray, I know there is a debate about was he on or offside when the ball came to him, but is that his worst miss since he's been with us? His one against Swansea (Slithers last home game) was pretty bad, and he missed a few against Newcastle away to a season or so back.

Hopefully his miss is a good thing. He often seems to pull out a top draw goal just when I despair of him the most!

Doesn't sound like he's at all happy with the overall fitness of the squad. We were so fit last season, I'm surprised and disappointed in Javi that he let it get so bad over the summer.

It looks like Javi really lost focus....there was lots of stuff last season about how he’d set rules & all the squad ate together etc & now Cathcart’s saying QSF is having to bring in the same type of rules...and last season we were fit & had few injuries, whilst this season we were undercooked & are now suffering a swathe of injuries.
Maybe biting the bullet after the cup final would have been the correct decision.
