It was amazing just how far behind it would be. At 5.15 you would still be hitting refresh only to find we'd conceded two quick goals in the final ten minutes and lost from 1-0 up.

I remember actually booking a lads holiday on Ceefax. We sat for hours watching certain deals scroll round, then if we saw one we liked we then had to frantically scribble the details down. If we missed it we had to wait for it to come round again. Quite bizarre.

My telly had a posh hold page facility. The only problem with that is that it continued to cycle in the background so if you held page 20 for 5 mins whilst you noted something down by the time you un-paused it you were on page 50 odd and missed a load of stuff.

Still brings a tear to my eye watching that and remembering how great Sir Graham was and what great memories him and his teams gave us

Ivic pre-match: 'It's very important to have a healthy dressing room. By that I mean the players need to respect each other and the rules of the team. Without that they cannot succeed. No one asks them something strange or something they don't know'.
This is music to my ears. It's exactly how we need the dressing room to be. Its not enough to have a good squad, we need a good dressing room and players willing to fight hard for each other for the whole 95 minutes.

Quite like the look of that formation although not sure the 2 DMs will be enough to stop Pedro getting overrun in the middle of the park.? However i would like us to set up more to put the wind up the opposition so this more like it. I have feeling we will continue to see a back 3 for a while yet so won't hold my breath.
Been thinking about the season ahead, and decided it will depend on how quickly our squad can settle into Vlad's methods. In other words we have been very "experimental" so far in certain areas whilst most average c/ship teams have the same squads with every player knowing exactly what his role is and who he is going to be kicking.... If/when our guys do click we will thrash a few, but it's the "when" that's going to make a difference to our season....

I also like the look of that team but have to disagree with you about getting overrun in MF
I theory we shall have a 5 in MF and as long as the attacking 3 play as a unit and the wide players
don't wander off ,having a doss, then happy days as it is not just what you do in possession it is what you do without the ball that is equally important

Have to be a bit suspicious on the Masina thing though - he'll supposedly be back in training in a couple of weeks, but then will still need a few weeks to get up to speed, by which point it will be... the January window.

How? JP is not a winger.

Garner is our most lightweight and least ball-winning midfielder as well, with the exception of Quina.

Still not having Hughes back is a big miss. Our central midfield is still our crappest area of the pitch and Hughes would be the only one of our players who could possibly work in a midfield two with Capoue when fully fit (though even then it'd be a risk).

I never claimed that he was . My point was about wide players and their role when
out of possession. There is only 1 ball on the pitch . An attacking player should realistically
never be more than 10 - 15 yards away from the ball .

JP isn't capable enough as a ball-winner to be counted much in that respect without the ball. In recent games he's struggled to get near the ball at all.

Just noticed I meant to say "midfielder", but the point seems to have been understood.

    Ah ceefax.
Everyone stood in the rain outside radio rentals opposite the old Burger King on a Saturday afternoon looking through the window at the results coming in

It's not always about sticking your foot in
Sometimes it's about looking or showing for the ball
    Some midfielders get stuck in
Some midfielders get the team high up the by constantly pitch looking for the ball
Showing for the ball is equally playing out of possession as sticking your foot in

JP doesn't do that much either though, he's had the fewest touches of any of our outfield players in his last few starts.

Let me guess, by the time you’d got your camera app working and the phone pointing the right way, they’d only gone and decommissioned Ceefax?

I remember lurking round the TV department in John Lewis in Watford one saturday about 4.45 to watch Final Score. Some bloke came rushing up and asked how Man United got on (they weren’t actually playing until the sunday, but this “fan” clearly had no idea). I told him they had lost 4-0 to whichever side was bottom of the table at the time. He tutted, said “oh, United” then wandered off. ****.

PS we weren’t actually playing that day either as we had played on the friday night (Cardiff away ? 2006?)

    The team will be:
    Foster
    JN,Cathcart,Kabba,Wilmot,Kiko
    Sema,Capoue,Garner,Pedro
    Gray

It certainly isn't our strongest but I don't see how the players coming back from Africa are going to be sharp enough.
I really want JN to reclaim his place. He offers much more defensively and showed signs of improvement going forward. When VI decides to play 4 at the back he really is the only viable option we have.
How come there is so little love for teletext?I thought they offered better coverage of us.

Simply not true, he had one serious injury in that time that affected one season (15/16). Other than that season, he made 38, 48, 48 and 42 appearances per season after breaking into the first team. Hardly someone with a terrible injury record.

Yes, Big Man Troy is fully fit. Be very interesting to see if he waltzes straight back into the starting lineup or whether we stick with Gray

Saw a stat during lockdown that he's played more career games at the age of 25 than Kabasele at the age of 29. I don't know if it's still true, but he's played a lot of football, definitely wouldn't call him injury prone

Steve Kabba...what an awful signing that was. Did he even play for us? I remember seeing we had signed him and got pretty excited as he was quite prolific for Sheff Utd.

Best thing he did was win a late penalty at Wolves which we scored and won 2-1.
