No. It was a draw. Ngonge scored their pen and Allan Nielsen equalised for us. Lee Cook had yet to play for us at that point.
I remember the one when Gunnarsson I think got sent off for handball and Ardley got a very good consolation. We had the bottle one too and as mentioned the Young scoring a goal after they hit the bar.
Was there for the Youngie goal....absolutely scenes! Furlong was SO sure he’d scored! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
One of my favourite goal celebrations was Tommy Smiths winner in 99. Absolute scenes you young wannabees nowadays would be too immersed in recording on your phones than actually being totally lost in the euphoria of the moment.
Terry venables, saw him come on as sub home to them 1970, Morgan twins, Mike Keen, Marsh and Bowles had some good players over the years oops nearly forgot Gerry Francis lots of flair players!
Going back to the old GT days, I remember an unexpected FA Cup win at Loftus Road in 1980. This was when the School (away) end was a terrace and it was packed. Rangers took the lead but we came back to win 2-1. I’ve had to look up the scorers: Ian Bolton and the recently-signed Wilf Rostron.
Tight ground, its like a scale model of a real ground, I would say about 80% of a full size stadium. One of those grounds where you could not sit in your seat even if you want to, as there is no where to put your legs. Unless you are under 10 years old.
Used to enjoy watching Lee Cook melt under the pressure of withering abuse from the notoriously brutal Watford crowd. How soft must you be if the baying Rous regulars can put you off your game?
I think this is the game where Lee Cook melted at Vicarage Road, just a month after he left us http://www.bsad.org/0405/reports/qpr/hr1.html
I can't remember getting a beer at Selhurst Park or The Valley (despite having been to both!) so I think QPR is worse as that certainly has stuck in the memory
It makes a matchbox seem spacious. When I was at the WO Ollie Phillips sent me to interview Mullery, who was manager of QPR at the time. When I asked him a question I understood why,it was one of Ollie's numerous 'initiation ceremonies'. Mullery was unintelligible and was a football version of Sir Harry Stocracy. I didn't understand a word of his answer! Played well in Mexico though, so Ollie said.
Roger used to work as PE co ordinator at Woodside school in Goffs Oak. Lovely chap and firm but fair, not unlike SGT. The children loved him. He was a friend of Don Round, the head who was a brilliant head teacher.
Apart from the lack of legroom and the poor sightlines when everyone is sitting down, I've always found QPR fans go to the bar ten minutes before half-time and come back ten minutes into the second half. Inconvenient if you're sitting among them, as I have done due to getting a ticket from someone who worked for them.
My best is 6, I've been to see us at WBA and Leicester 6 times each, although 5 of Leicester's was at Filbert Street.
Over the years must have been there the most out of all the away grounds. A few stick in my mind. We left at half time once think we were 3 or 4 nil down. On the way back saw the lights were on at Hendon So watched the second half of Hendon v St Albans...much better game. A few times I’ve been with a QPR mate and sat In home areas. Think we won both times and had no hassle from them when I cheered us on. I was once was in the posh seats but you would never have guessed. It was just to the side of the directors box but I couldn’t believe how different it was to the upper rous. Proper naughty. Another time we outstayed our welcome in a Bush pub and it all kicked off with a load of postman about 4 hours after the game. What a shame I’ll be watching on tv..always was an interesting away day.
I was at that one too. There were some dreadful away performances that season Fulham 0-0 Bristol Rovers 1-1 Orient not sure of the score but we probably scored nil .
Its funny tho . Back in the day you went and watched maybe read a match report and that was it . Today , with blanket coverage , every tiny detail of every match can be dissected by all and sundry . Everyone's an expert on everything !!
Funny that - I read it and remembered thinking back to Zola's first season ('12-'13). It became apparent by the 4th or 5th match that we were going to be delivering some real panellings that season (and we did). I don't feel that now.
Yes - I often wondered how people coped. If they didn't go did they literally have to wait till Final score or use the radio to find out the result and chew it over in the pubs etc?
The police threatened to kick me out of the away end at Loftus road when I'd just turned 14 for making the w@nker sign and shouting 'waaaaaanker' at a QPR player. I may have been 14 but I looked about 12 and wasn't even obviously male at that age. Most of the people I was there with were a few years older and they were incredulous at the local coppers' choice of target........West London ponces.
That is one on favourite ever away days. Been the Loftus Road about 4 times I think. For the game in 99 I was in the top tier where you can't actually see the goal at the same end if you're sat down.
Yes...you could get the HT scores on the radio & TV, but there were no "score flashes" or anything of that sort to interrupt the coverage of the horse racing/wrestling/rugby/ or whatever was on.
Those days you’d go to the game and see a great goal and not see a replay until end of season video. Live games were special events and cup final day was awesome! Sometimes less is more.
Depends how far back it was. This discussion arose from a post about the 1979/80 season, presumably Ceefax/Teletext already existed back then?
Page 301 Ceefax. Football headlines dominated with Premier league BS. To find Watford you had to scowl through match scores for a particular league. They did however, have a very basic but up to date vidiprinter. Oh and Manish Bashiur? Football League Show.
