  3. Premier league clubs will need to plan ahead and do their business earlier instead of having holidays.

One possible consequence is life could be way harder for clubs coming up as they can't make moves until they know the division they are in, and have no way to test if promoted players are good enough for the premier league as they don't get those first couple of games to try. One result may be widening the gap between champ and prem even further.

Also next summer the World cup will be on so I can see this being disastrous for many clubs. £5 says in 12 months time there will be another PL vote to restore the window to 31st August for the summer of 2019.

Do you not think they've considered that?

I genuinely don't think they've considered everything. Players can still be unsettled by PSG and Barca

So we're thinking of things they haven't?

Maybe not thinking of things they haven't but I wonder to what extent all the risks and benefits have been assessed by those making the decision.

Who knows, this could have been an idea for a year or more, but the first I heard of it was in August.

Also, having the vote so soon after the window has closed surely causes a bit of bias - especially for Arsenal, Leicester, Swansea and Southampton that had clubs within the league trying to sign their players after the season began.

To clarify I'm not against it, I just don't see how we as a club benefit if the rest of Europe don't change.

Say we want a player from Europe but his club ask for what we consider too much. In the current situation the price may lower as the deadline gets closer but in the new situation us as a buying club will be desperate whilst the selling club have another month to shift the player and get someone in.

Surely a compromise could be a internal deadline for transfers between premier league clubs and a external deadline e.g rest of the world?

The PL say they discussed it at their meetings in February and June.

Incidentally it was Man Utd, Man City, Swansea, Palace and us who voted against.

I don't get it. If the purpose is to have settled squads before the season starts, this doesn't work because players can still be sold outside England until 31 August (thus presumably the 25 man squad will continue to be announced after 31/8). And for English clubs in the CL, surely this disadvantages them against their European rivals?

What conceivable benefit does it bring? It sounds like the PL's version of Brexit to me.

Liverpool going to get a hiding, which I find immensely satisfying. I'm hoping for double figures from City.
The fact that Mane will be banned for a few games is the cherry on top.

That really was shocking from Mane. It's a red all day long. I know he's going for the ball and not the keepers face but it such dangerous play. Hopefully Ederson is ok.

I've just glanced on the Liverpool forum and have changed my mind about the Mane incident.
I now recognise that if anything, the City keeper should be suspended for having the temerity to challenge Mane and deny a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Mane was well within his rights to take the bloke's head off, and showed admirable restraint in not doing so.

No-one seems to agree on that red card!

Right by the laws of the game but some will say Mane was only going for the ball etc.

He didn't get it. The challenge get was high, late, uncontrolled, reckless and could have severely injured his opponent. All of which are possible red card offences.

Apart from that it was fine though.

Oh dear - last thing De Boer needed was one of his own players playing the perfect through ball for Wood!

Palace are awful. Don't see De Boer there for much longer. Burnley are awful as well. But winning.

Palace had their chances - sums up their season really.

Palace need to stick with De Boer. Write this season of as survival at any cost, which as time goes on I think they can achieve, and then build on it for next year.

  22. The palace squad are incapable of being the total football side Parish wants, he needs to buy pretty much a whole new 11 and that isn't going to happen

They are better off firing FDB and going back to what they do best otherwise I can see them going down

On the BBC sports home page it lists for tonight Bournemouth v Brighton, since when was a League One fixture classed as Premier League?

This morning Karren Brady says she hopes Spurs win the league..

Now West Ham are 3/0 down.

Sure the Eastenders will have something to say!

EDIT: Spurs doing their best to throw it away.

    Sums up both teams really!

Some amazing other threads as well. I like the one about Parish that started in August. First page, 'hes the best thing to ever happen to our club'. 17th page - 'hes a ****'.

Did anybody see the Liverpool-Everton game today?

Couple of points - Fat sham has wasted no time whatsoever in applying his anti-football methods to the Toffees, as they showed zero interest in attacking Liverpool at all. Now I'm no fan of Liverpool - but every time football like this pinches a result, it endorses the reputations of those that make their teams play like it. How Liverpool didn't win by a landslide, I'll never know. Not saying Everton had to go kamikaze with their attacks - but to show no interest in attacking at all just isn't football for me (makes me cringe to recall how Flores set us up at City two season ago:eek:).

The Everton penalty - surprised to hear most pundits think that it was?! Never a penalty for me, and the amount of "force" in the push was no where near the level of force from the contact that Bellerin made on Richarlison - yet everybody (except the panel of course) has stated he dived, and now unfairly labels him a diver (even some of our own fans are unhappy with him) despite being the most fouled player in the league (http://eurofootballrumours.com/top-50-fouled-players-premier-league-season-2017-18-a/).

And Man Utd-Man City went exactly to script - Guardiolas entertainers convincing winners over Mourinho's spoilers. Of course City have spent loads - but so have Utd. I'm glad the better football team won as I couldn't care less who runs away with the title.

Whilst it was soft there is a silly little push by Lovern giving the attacker a chance to fall down and make the most of it.

(Calvert Lewin is English so won't be criticised of course..)

Had it been given for Liverpool the views of the 2 managers would have been very different!

Shame as I like Liverpool and Klopp messed up a bit with his team selection whilst Big Sam can now probably grin away and say how wonderful his tactics were..

Another Merseyside derby to come as well.

As for Man U/City - City wanted to attack and save for a double chance at the end Man U for a home side created very little and tried to con the ref into giving them a penalty.

    Title is pretty much over.

A few things that surprised me during in the Manchester Derby:

Whilst Guardiola's side have amazing footballers and certainly were the better side, their two goals came from awful Man Utd defending (both Lukaku's fault). The most incisive move of the match came from Utd, which should again have been finished by Lukaku.

How on earth were only 4 minutes of added time given in the second half? If that was against Watford, it would have been 7/8.

Utd are incredibly average without Pogba.

Arsenal v Liverpool is always a decent game as neither team can defend...or want to!
