You wouldn't be that excited if we finished in the top 8? For a club of our size in the modern era, in our first season back, that would be an unbelievable achievement.

I would be ecstatic... I just said I wouldn't wet myself. I saw it all before when we got promoted to the 1st and were runners up. I don't cum in my undies at hearing 'Barclays Premier League'. It's the top division is all. As it was back then in the olden days before 'the modern era'. Sarcasm intended. I have said before and will say it again football is cyclical. Watford would swap places with Newcastle as a club in an instant (Vicarage Rd with 54,000 fans) but obviously not as a team. I think you would have had to have seen Watford in the 3rd or 4th Division to even begin to comprehend what I am talking about.

I worry about how we will do against those teams just above the relegation zone, that are fighting for survival - teams like Chelsea and Liverpool.

Totally agree with this. For the first time none of the promoted sides look like pushovers. All have a couple of wins under their belt and look more than competent. It's still early but you'd think some of the boring stalwart PL sides like Stoke, Newcastle and Villa are probably bricking it about now.

Bournemouth, Sunderland, Villa and Newcastle with 1 point between them.

Newcastle could have taken a lot away from a win tonight. A loss from 2-0 up is gonna hit them hard.

Bournemouth could be losing Wilson. Yet another injury and it's a long way to the Jan transfer window, d lost to a last minute goal.

Watched the Sunderland game and they looked ok. Still think they are Bantha fodder.

Villa did ok. Not sure how well they played but that result will give them something to build on maybe.

I've left Stoke out of this. As someone else said in an earlier post, I see them getting out and finishing mid table.

We are 5 points off the "relegazone" with a game in hand. At least a point tomorrow and it's 2 wins. Still early days and can all change.

    Premier League 2015/16 Mid-table Watch

Liverpool overcame some nervy moments in a tight 3-2 win which saw both teams make each other look better than they are.

Chelsea look to be building some mid-table momentum after an entertaining last ten minutes at Newcastle.

Leicester drop down to where their natural level probably is.

Swansea look ready to drop out of mid-table, just as Bournemouth have done.

A draw today would see both CPFC and Watford maintain their comfortable mid-table status, whilst a win for either will have them pushing for a European spot. A loss would put either side in a similar position to Swansea.

We'll have a better idea of what mid-table really looks like after Everton and West Brom play on Monday night.

Is it too early to start a Premier League 2015/16 Europe Qualification Watch thread?

I feel this is a poke at my recent post somewhere else.

Not sure why it was necessary :(

That bottom three are starting to look very distant from 17th.

    Hopefully stay that way!

Beating Villa and Sunderland soon will be the key.

Advocaat leaves Sunderland. Hope they don't get Big Sam in.

Maybe Arsenal are just concentrating on the league this season..

Hope they use up all their goals!

Don't think it matters who they get in, I don't think even Allardyce could sort that defence out.

I would say thats pretty much guaranteed ! and he will keep them up :(

Will Allardyce actually want to go there? If I were him I'd hold out for a better option.

Aston Villa, a marginally more attractive job. Tactics Tim hasn't got long I reckon.

Could see them going for Rodgers now, maybe.

With Watford having the equal best defensive record in the league right now, we've got to look back at our Man City performance and be pretty pleased with just 2-0.

With Newcastle losing 6-1 that's a massive shift in like-for-like GD and being 7 points clear and +10 GD better, it's virtually an extra point at this moment in time.

Sunderland will find it hard to appoint a good manager - I think even Sam Allardyce will see that its a virtually impossible job to keep them up this season while Dyche has more chance of being in the Premier League with Burnely than he does with Sunderland next season.

After watching Burnley the other night I doubt it.

Even still Dyche wouldn't want to go to Sunderland as they have a director of football (and roughly the same setup we have here). Of course money can talk but I don't see Dyche being that kind of guy

I thought that about Palace a few seasons ago & they got Pulis and stayed up easily...

Sherwood is dreadful. I hope he stays in place as far into the season as possible.

I've got that book! The one about each club's chants and songs.

Can see Sam going to Sunderland,if only for this season but they do look iffy at the back it's true.

Tim is looking very unwell,2 more games maybe 3?

Aston Villa were always my favourites to drop. They've been kept up solely because of Benteke's goals for the last few years. They were doomed as soon as they lost him and decided that those goals would come from Rudy Gestede and Jordan Ayew. Then they go and lose Delph and Vlaar as well.

It will take a brilliant manager to keep them up, and Timmy is not one.

  31. Nnnn

Yup. Plus Clever Tom opted to sign for Everton instead instead of Villa.

Good luck Tim. You're gonna need it.

I just don't understand how a team, especially of a big club like Villa can be so bad five seasons in a row, without dropping - I really thought under Tim Sherwood (love him or hate him - incidentally, his playing days here were before my time as a fan - was he a Bassett signing?) this would be the season where they'd break out of their rut and be at least top 10.

Even Everton during their darkest days, Coventry when they were renowned escapologists and Wigan were never that bad at this level for so long.

You really thought Dim Tim would get them into the top 10? Wow.

I'm pretty sure he joined Watford as a trainee under Taylor but was given his professional debut under Bassett.

Think Sherwood was a youth player who played under Harrison. We then did our trick at the time of selling him for 100k and then seeing him sold for 4 million a few years later. See Dean Holdsworth of a similar vintage.
