Our squad change since the end of the 'Summer' 2020 transfer window: Goalkeepers: Ben Foster Daniel Bachmann Rob Elliot Adam Parkes Full Backs: Kiko Femenia Jeremy Ngakia Marc Navarro Adam Masina Daryl Janmaat Centre Backs: Craig Cathcart Christian Kabasele (inj) Francisco Sierralta William Troost-Ekong Ben Wilmot Central Midfielders: Etienne Capoue Will Hughes Tom Cleverley Nathaniel Chalobah Domingos Quina Tom Dele-Bashiru James Garner Dan Gosling Wide Midfielders/Wingers: Ismaila Sarr Ken Sema Philip Zinckernagel Forwards: Troy Deeney Andre Gray Joao Pedro Stipe Perica Glenn Murray Isaac Success (inj) We have added: 1 CM 1 wide player 1 3rd choice keeper Total = 3 players We have lost: 1 full back 1 CB temporarily (who knows how long Kabasele will be out for) 4 CMs (1 sold, 1 loan cancelled, 1 loaned out and 1 injured for the season) 2 strikers (1 loan cancelled, Perica injured indefinitely) Total = 8 players (7 if you count Perica and Kabasele as half each) There is a lot of competition, but it looks like this has been our worst window since the Pozzos joined. In fact, I'd say it has been our worst window since I've supported the club.
We have no goles in the squad. Amazing to think that last time around we had Ighalo, Vydra and a fit for purpose Deeney with Almen Abdi behind them.
We had goles in the squad with Glenn Murray. Guaranteed goles. Take a look at the first 5 pages of his player thread if you don't believe me.
Do you think the covid situation and the subsequent coming global economic ice age may have been an influence on our spending? Most clubs have done less business than they'd normally expect to, I'd imagine. I accept that probably since the FA cup semi final against Wolves, being a Watford fan hasn't been a lot of fun but I wish people would temper their frustration with a little realism
I think most on here are realistic. The confirmation that Gino and Dux are completely out of their depth will do that to you.
Plenty of other clubs have done good business. QPR are at the bottom of the table, but they brought a striker in who has already scored as many as Deeney and Gray combined from open play.
If he'd played the same about of games as Andre Gray do you think he'd have scored more or less goals?
Paper thin in midfield. One or two injuries in that area and we are really screwed. Once again it will be putting round pegs into square holes which seems a familiar theme to the mismanagement at the club. The idiocy of letting Quina leave and then bringing in two u23 squad fillers beggars belief. If TDB had not been injured things would be a lot rosier as he was showing immense promise. That too I think is a critical stage in the way this season has shaped up. We even mismanaged his injury at the time. Letting him try and run off a ligament injury. It never rains but it pours with the muppets in charge. God forbid they ever get stuck in a maze.
Far too many in that squad so it needed trimming. Murray, Garner and Janmaat have left. Has anybody noticed
The brains trust who run our club have left us with a piss poor squad and we deserve everything we get.
Yes I did. We have quite a few injuries. That doesn't take away the fact there are 30 names on that list still at the club. We are not going to get people in to cover a few injuries. I would have like another midfielder in the Abdi mould who would score goals and create chances but with money fairly tight I presume, we need players out before they come in to reduce this number down.
I only count 26 and 4 of them are keepers. TDB out for the season and no return dates set for Kabasele, Perica and Success. Looks a bit thin on numbers to me!
TDB looked good but I think several people talk him up too much as a miss. He only played 64 minutes of football for us this season. He looked promising but who knows how he would of progressed had he not been injured.
Still paying them and you would hope these can play some part in the season. I'm trying to see it from the clubs point of view and with getting relegated plus COVID I suspect things are mighty tight cash wise. 26 is still a lot of players plus a select few from the U23's. Might not be as strong as you would wish but there plenty of players
Well we kept Challobah and brought in Zinc and Gosling, so not the end of the world. We've also found a good CB pairing and Sierialta is first name on the sheet for me. My biggest concern is how to cobble together decent 11 out of the list.? We've all bemoaned 442 as our middle two get overrun, but playing 352 affe ts our options because the two wide men have to be WBs meaning Massina/Ngakia/Kiko types - leaving no obvious room for Zinc or Sarr. OK we could push Sarr or Zinc up top, but I do have reservations as to how we get the best shape with this squad.? Some mention 433 and I do wonder if that would be the best option for now... With say NC, DG, WH, TC options in the middle, with sarr/Deeney/pedro/zinc options for front 3.?
