Sorry not been in for a while , love affair with football has dramatically waned over past few months .
Norwegian eliteserien isn't exactly a great league. However my boss is a Bodo/ glint fan and rates this guy highly ,Bodo played a very high tempo and attacking style of football ,moving the ball around very quickly ,they look superb when it works!
I would suggest this is great business ,good player to replace Sarr , because of covid and relegation double whammy ,club finances cant be great .
I would assume we will sell assets and offload high earners as much as possible whilst bringing in freebies and cheapies .
This view may not be popular ,but it will keep the club alive until we get to better times ahead .

    Dear all

Apologies for my lack of insight into this exciting saga. The recent closure of the port of Dover has meant there has been delay in my passing this information onto the UK based hornet fans.

Without further ado, I and my sources are very pleased to confirm the signing of Philip Zinckernagel on a 5 and a half year deal.

He is signing from fine Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt and is a tricky winger with an eye for goal. Beneath his boyish good looks is a typical viking warrior who does not shy away from battle. Indeed, his nickname among the ITK scandinavia team is Odin's Thunderbolt.

The ITK scandinavia team's analysis predicts he will fit seamlessly into the current watford squad and that there will be an average 0.2 points per game increase over the course of the season.

Once again, please forgive my tardy report.

Perhaps he does "drift", but it seems overwhelmingly drifting in to the centre when coming in off the left. Rashford and Martial do the same thing from the left (as do most right-footed forwards who start on the left flank as they like to cut inside on to their right foot to shoot, eg Mane, Son, Hazard, Henry). At AC Milan his 3 starts have also been from the left.

I'll refer you to a comment I made on this board about Hauge on August 31st:

"I've watched highlights of all 16 of their games this season:

Out of the 13 goals and 8 assists he's had, 4 were after drifting off the left in to more of a #10 position, and 3 of the goals were penalties.

The remaining 14 goals and assists were all from the left-hand side.

He does not appear to spend anywhere near as much time on the right as the left and he certainly seems far and away more "capable" and productive on the left."

Rashford's best performances over the years have come as the left-sided player in a front 3. He plays there for England as well. He likes to run with the ball off the left flank so he can curl it in with his right foot, his left foot isn't that good at shooting when he cuts in off the right, and his hold-up/back-to-goal play isn't good enough to be the central prong in a front 3 unless desperate. He has played more centrally at times this season, but that has been as part of a front 2 as they've adopted a 4-4-2 diamond a fair bit this season.

Martial, as with Rashford, also prefers to dribble from the left to shoot with his right. He has been playing more as the centre of the 3 lately as his hold-up play is also decent, but whenever Cavani has been brought on while Martial is still on the pitch, then Cavani has gone to CF and Martial has gone back to being the left-side of the front 3 where he is also natural.

Clearly the fact that Utd have not tried to sign any left-sided wingers/forwards in the last year is evidence enough that they have not seen any "need" to recruit there. James was signed in summer 2019 btw.

In the meanwhile however, while they did not bid for Hauge this summer, they did rather buy two young right-wingers for £8mil and £30mil in Pellistri and Diallo - that's all the proof you need of where they saw their priorities.

Sure, I can agree on that for the most part, and think Zinckernagel always wanted to play from the left because of the better teammates on that side. Many think Hauge will be a central attacking midfielder later on the way things are developing.

At that point it was always believed that Hauge would be loaned back to Glimt, even AC Milan had that in mind. Then they actually played Glimt and was literally shocked.

I saw Ajax play at Arsenal once, and their players were rarely in the places I expected them to be. There was always somebody, if not the expected person, where they needed to be though.

As a Watford fan for 40 years who grew up in Norwich and collected Cambridge Utd on the way, I've just acquired a fourth yellow team to watch out for.

Out by a day, you boomed me. Congratulations.

Still seems like quite a lot of 'yeah he has played equally in the centre and does now but actually that doesn't matter for reasons'.

I'm not arguing that the right isn't Utd's priority; that's very clear and why they carried on with their interminable pursuit throughout last 'summer' of Sancho, but my point has always been that Mr Glimt said they had been tracking/scouting him, not that they necessarily had concrete plans to buy Hauge this summer, and you dismissed it in a manner that seemed, indeed, dismissive and curt (to be diplomatic) and based solely on the existence of Rashford and Martial apparently having absolutely locked down any left-sided attacking position at Utd for the next decade, when that's nowhere near the lock you claimed it to be/is still a matter open to significant interpretation.

Nothing like a pointless, disrespectful post. Why even be critical of a player you've never even seen or a club that not only won the league but were crucifying teams week in week out. As I said before Glimt last season were the most entertaining team I've witnessed since the Glory days of GT.
You would of seen the fans in a different light when you saw them celebrate Gerrys first in the Semis and the equaliser. A top bunch of fans .

You may believe it's a discussion but the guy is speaking in his second or maybe third language and probably sees it differently.
To me you're aggressive in your responses and there's no need. He kindly came on to our forum to Champion Zinckernagel. He is also giving his opinions from a Norwegian perspective. I for one am happy he has taken his time out to do so.

He literally just said "Don't worry. It is just a friendly argument mate." and we've been continuing to discuss the matter in a detailed and constructive manner while you've been moaning. The people trying to stir 5hit here are you and SLB. KingKoki seems capable of handling himself, he doesn't need you minding him.

As has been commented as well, his English is excellent, as is often the case with Norwegians (Norwegian and English are very similar). Your comment could be construed as being patronising in claiming his language ability to be an issue when actually his grasp of it is not an issue.

I agreed that Utd had been tracking/scouting him - that is not what I was dismissing.

I was dismissing KingKoki's specific assertion that he did not sign because of Utd "failing to pull the trigger before AC Milan" - if Utd concluded that it was not necessary for them to sign him, then their decision is not a "failing" due to acting too slowly, but was rather the result of a conscious decision that he wasn't worth signing. Utd will scout a 5hit-load of players who they end up deciding not to move for.

Rashford and Martial have probably locked down the left-sided attacking position for the next 5 years at least btw.

KingKoki's comment was itself a bit arrogant btw, albeit with regards to Utd, in his claim that him not signing was because of Utd "failing to pull the trigger before AC Milan" and also bis claim that him not signing resulted in Man U fans being "[in] tears as always".

And I probably failed to communicate that Man U the club, and the Man U fans on Red Cafe is not the same thing. If you follow the Haaland and Jens Petter Hauge threads "in tears as always" would maybe seem slightly arrogant but it's not completely off. And fans is upset about not signing Norwegian bargains when Solskjær knows so much about the big talents in that league. I think they also made reasonable arguments for buying Hauge, even if he is mainly seen as LW, LM or CAM.

Hearing reports that Philip has packed his bags and made his way to the airport after seeing that appalling display of how not to be a forward. Instead of the two magical strikers he was told about by Scott Two-Face he has discovered we have two clowns from the local circus impersonating footballers.

Well. You might be right. Zinckernagel has just lost once whole last year, that was the close 3-2 loss at San Siro. The other game we lost against Molde away Zinckernagel and 5 of the other regular starters was out injured or had a yellow card ban. Then we played 2-2 twice and once 1-1 after we has secured first place. So I would also pack by bags and head for Fenerbache after watching that game :p (kidding).

In other news, Glimt fans is terribly disappointed at Junker because he said he might leave if the right offer comes in january. He just told everyone he would stay a few days ago, never should have allowed him to celebrate Christmas home in Denmark...

If he goes, he will not be cheap, but if it was not for the new transfer rules I'm sure he would be the perfect signing by Watford. If he first decides to leave and the price is right I actually want him to join Zinckernagel again because they are both good friends and deadly together. He seems like the striker you need right now, but I'm on my knees praying we keep him to january next year.

A pantomime horse would be a better striker than Gray KK. Junker would be great. Is he of German descent ? The term refers to landed nobility. Anyway I digress.

Congratulations Watford fans. Zinckernagel is a top player who can deliver if he is in the right team. I hate to see him leave Bodo Glimt, but that was inevitable. I hope he will get a lot of playing time and I will try to see some matches once in a while (although im not sure if We can receive matches of Watford).

There have been stories lately claiming that Utd won't let Raiola's presence stop them continuing trying to sign Haaland. They still tried to sign him when Raiola was there before he went to Dortmund. Ole is mad keen on him, it'd be cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Pogba will probably be sold in the summer and that could ease tensions with Raiola as well.

If the club are impressed by how Zinckernagel adapts and starts with us, and we think he can get a work permit, then signing Junker as well would seem a no-brainer - which is prob why it won't happen.

I think City will try and move for him in the summer, Agueros time at City is done and he's out of contract in the summer. Gabriel Jesus isn't clinical enough to lead the line for a season which for me leads to City spending big on a striker in the summer, Haaland would be perfect. Would likely cost them a lot more than waiting a year for the release clause to kick in, but would be totally worth it.

JPH, Junker and Zinckernagel were I suppose the equivalent to the so called BMW at Brentford last season. Two out of three would be increase our scoring stats significantly.

  33. lowerrous

As I said, I still reckon he will go to either City or Utd.

I wouldn't be surprised either if City move for him already this summer, but if Dortmund are willing to cash in then I'm sure Utd will match their bid - they've pretty much kept a lot of the money they were thinking of spending on Sancho (who I think they've now ditched), so they could afford it. They clearly have intended Cavani coming in as a hopeful stop-gap for Haaland.

It will then come down to how well the two clubs finish the season, and then Haaland's decision - will he wish to follow in his father's footsteps, or carve a slightly different part under the stewardship of his former mentor?

    Quote from a Danish Paper.

Are you going to recommend any other Glimt players?

    - If they ask me, I will recommend almost the whole team, he laughs.

Be funny if this was said after the Swansea game.
Anyways Kasper Junker and his agent are mulling over lots of options in England, Germany and other European countries. He has implied that England has the most enticing offers. Who knows we could be one. Be interesting to see Glimts valuation.

Pretty sure I read that from one of the interviews last week. Would love Juncker but can’t see how he gets a work permit for now. That could change once Bodo/Glimt play in the Champions League/qualifying or if he makes an international debut. Would happily have him or Patrick Berg too (as a Capoue replacement)
