Just seen this bad news - shocking. I’ll remember him as a lovely cultured player who I always thought could play at a higher level than the Championship, but seemed happy to stay with Cardiff where he was usually their stand-out player.
He was by all accounts from Villa a shy person. He liked the surroundings at Cardiff and felt loved and appreciated. He could have moved onto a bigger club. There are others like Joey Beauchamp for instance.
Maybe he also thought after his Villa experience he was happy playing games at Cardiff in a good Championship side who got promoted a couple of times and played in cup finals rather than sitting on the bench at a yo yo club? The talent was there but it's interesting the first time he was "dropped" was under Warnock when they went up ..
