It’s a brilliant deal for us and him and the very reason why I love football so much.

The incompetence was the relegation that allowed this to be a reality.

The statement heavily implies the player had no intention of playing for us and wasn’t committed at all so I don’t blame the club for getting rid of him. That said, as I’ve said plenty of times - this absolutely confirms to me the clubs naivety in publicising the player on social media. They’ve clearly known he wanted out.

Unlike Watford to confirm a fee. Around £15m up front.

No mention of him being in the last year of his contract though so maybe that wasn't the case.

I think that is a massive excuse by Watford to apply it to Pervis. He didn't play because a bid had been made.

He's looked more interested than any of the others over the last month, certainly didn't refuse to play unlike a pile of others.

A smokescreen to cover up the ineptitude of the club to tie him down to a contract years ago.

Actually so sad that we own one of the best young left backs in world football then 1) Got relegated playing Masina/Femenia in that position whilst he tore up La Liga, 2) Used him in pre season and asked the gaffer how impressed he'd been by him, all whilst sharing tons of pictures of him on social media, 3)Let said gaffer confirm he was injured and that he'd be back soon, 4) Sold him for half the price a left back he outperformed last season went for on the same day.

99% sure his contract wasn't up this season either.

A generous interpretation would be that it was cunning. To admit the player wasn’t part of our plans publicly wouldn’t have helped negotiations. But it would be generous one.

This will be the excuse for any of the players that leave. It'll be applied to Sarr as well which will be truly disgusting.

And we made him believe he would be involved in our pre-season last year but instead we just farmed him out on loan.

We made very clear to him we didn't see him as part of our club when he would have wanted to come to us, so why now the shoe is on the other foot, would he give two ***** about us.

Annoying to lose him, but I think people are forgetting a few things. I read that he rejected a much bigger salary at Brighton because he wanted to play in Spain. Probably a big factor in him going there last season too. Footballers are human's too.

Another dreadful piece of business by the club. Selling potentially one of the best wing backs in Europe for €15m. It wont be £, that figure will be in Euros no matter what the official site says.

Seems like Duxbury is trying to smooth things over in his statement, making it clear he didn't want to play for us and that they will bring in players that do....however the players that want to play for us are s*** unfortunately.

Nice move to place it all on Ivic though, clearly stating it's Ivic who demands 100% commitment, so the board are only following out his orders.....lol.

"As [Head Coach] Vladimir [Ivi*] has said repeatedly over the past week or so, having a squad of players 100 per cent committed to our challenge is imperative" Nice swerve Scott.

I've lost a lot of trust with the owner and board now and we better start seeing a reversal of this selling every good player policy pretty soon or fans will turn very quickly. I'm angry as I can see the direction we're going in and it was so needless. What we are doing now is just crazy....in full panic mode selling whoever we can for whatever price we can get.

Saying players don't want to play for us is an excuse, just to win over a certain section of the gullible fanbase. The vast majority of these players would stick around if we created the right environment from the off.

I don't think any other club would refuse to play their players, while they're still in the building, even if they are trying to move them on. None of these so called "wantaways" would refuse to play for us.

I remember Cleverley's interview only a couple of weeks ago saying how excited he was by the new young quality players who had arrived. Clearly referring to the likes of Estupinan, Ngakia and Suarez.....now it's clear that was all false. They are not going to be part of it either.....well at least two of those names anyway.

I thought it would be a bit messy, but my god, in my worst nightmare did I expect the club to try and offload everyone. Madness, utter madness.

Brighton are at best a mid table club and Villareal challenge for Europe pretty reguarly.

That may change as Brighton are actually well run, but as it stands Villareal is a far better career move.

Fair enough and I hold some of the same issues with it.

But - I really doubt the player was committed. Let’s face facts - he played the whole of last season in La Liga and has been linked with clubs not only this summer but for a lot of last season as well. He’s been in Watford for a few weeks at best. He has no ties to us as a club or even England as a country and it stands to reason that he would much prefer to be in a familiar country, in their top division and playing European football.

Their are aspects to the deal I don’t like of course - and I’m massively annoyed and frustrated with our club at present too. But I don’t believe the club are covering this one up now he’s gone. They’ve said he wasn’t committed and I actually believe them.

Come on Burnsy. With the less than a trickle of information that comes out of the club, what do we choose to believe or not to believe? You'll never have a definitive truth about anything if you need it.

I get what they're trying to communicate to the fans, but that statement is just a free pass for all the rest not to play for us. Why should Suarez when he's just seen Estupinan leave? If Cucho doesn't want to be recalled in January, he just turns around and says no. It means that Pereyra can just keep posting on Instagram about how lovely the weather is here, whilst being paid tens of thousands of pounds a week, without any expectation that he does anything for it in return.

This is the most depressing thing about this entirely avoidable relegation, we are now impotent against the players' wishes as we have nothing to offer them.

Not sure...my bet would be Suarez.

We should run a pole as to the order of departures. Mine is:-

    Doucoure - GONE
    Estupinan - GONE

    Suarez
    Sarr
    Deeney
    Welbeck
    Capoue
    Pereyra
    Deulofeu

By this time, everyone will be so f&cked off......Hughes, then Foster.

On the flip side, Bob from the Dog & Duck wants to play for us, so at least he fits the criteria. He recently lost 1 stone and was Weight Watcher's slimmer of the month for August.

    Quick recap:

So we have been relegated and have sold 3 players. Total income 40M approx. rising.
We have won all our games so far this season.

As a relegated team with a large squad and several disinterested players we need to sell some players.
Ideally we probably all have players we would like to see sold for huge amounts of money.
Id like to see Deeney sold for 25M Pereyra for 40M Gray for 1Billion and to keep all the young talent BUT THAT ISNT GOING TO HAPPEN

In the real world the club seems to be protecting assets and making as many viable players available for sale as possible
But again we have only speculation to go on in terms of at what point we stop selling. I suspect all things being equal they stop when they deem they have sufficient money to keep running viably unless silly offers come in.

Additionally, not being in the premiership anymore, when we get players in they will be of probably the same standard as the last time we were in the championship. With a lot of punts and incomings from Udinese. Sure we had some good players in last time (IN HINDSIGHT) Because A) We cant afford the price for anyone better B) If we could we would struggle to get them to agree to join C) We cant afford the wages of anyone better.
The strategy in the prem is different to the championship as we have seen.

He gave an interview to the Ecuardorian press (which I have no chance of finding now) where he said he expected to be coming to us for pre-season. Instead we chose to rely on Holebas, Masina and bloody Foulquier and he was farmed straight out on loan.

Obviously no evidence we told him he wasn't part of our plans, but the club's actions were pretty much confirmation of the same.

Good point. From one perspective it's decent PR from the club to emphasise it's £15m initial fee so hopefully there's some achievable add-ons and a sell-on clause. Also reiterating Ivic's desire to have a fully committed squad which I think the fans all agree with. But as you say, the actual content could set a bad precedent.

I do actually have sympathy with the club here, it's just stirring my anger about our relegation again. We could've been looking forward to our most exciting season in the Premier League, integrating Suarez and Estupinan (then Cucho), having a full season of Sarr. It would've been the pinnacle of the "Pozzo model". Just so disappointing to see the vultures picking at our assets and the club effectively helpless to stop it.

It’s been like this for a while, Lukebakio being the prime example. We had a ready made winger performing well and instead of bringing him into the squad we sold for £20m... the went and got Sarr, a player in the same position for £40m???
Unless we get some really good players come in or our players magically want to play for us again we will be lucky to finish mid table

True, but in reality we are never that powerful. Lukebakio had no intention of joining us in the Premiership and if Estupinan had wanted to he could probably have extended his contract before we were relegated. When Sarr put two past Liverpool everyone had the same thought of who he would play for next season. That’s not to say the club haven’t royally messed it up.
