Hopefully Anya's shocking finishing today has put this nonsense to bed.

We do 100% need a new striker, mind.

With pace. The squad lacks pace and we really need a striker with pace

Personally I'm looking forward to seeing more of Ranegie between now and the end of the season as I've a feeling he has plenty more goals in him and if he shows this we could have a prolific strike partnership again next season.

Anyas real strength is not as a striker but given our depleted strike options he's done his best as a stand in.

Me too, but if Ranegie pulls a stunt like that again, he can forget about finding much forgiveness from the fans.

Sure he was silly to retaliate but he was provoked but with his experience he should have known better.

Anya isn't a striker, the pace argument still exists!

My point when I saw this thread is exactly what Willia6691 said...pacey STRIKER is still needed.

Just because a pacey WINGBACK who hits target 1/25 didn't have a good game doesn't mean we don't need someone in that role.

  10. Didn't notice Cardiff or Hull had a pacy striker last year, and I'm pretty sure Lesta and Burnley don't have one. But we need one because that's the myth...

Pretty sure they play different formations? Nobody said you need a pacey striker to win the league but in a 3-5-2 it's probably best.

Why you so keen to prove everyone wrong all the time? Genuine question.

EDIT: Frazier Campbell runs pretty fast, as does Ings.

Knockeart ain't a striker but he's pacey. Either way it doesn't matter because Vardy is pacey...

Do we want a striker who runs fast or one that scores goals?

Even if we get the infamous pacy striker, the chances of him being able to finish like Vydra are slim to none otherwise he'd be playing in the prem already, As we've had demonstrated, pace does nothing if you can't finish. Use what pace we've got to get behind the back 4 and let Ranegie and Deeney tear this division a new one

  17. King Dev

    Vardy is absolutely rapid.

Yep, slightly agree with this. Vydra had pace, but we didn't need his pace alone for a number of his goals. A player with ability to gain that half a yard of his man is all that's needed. There's no point having pacey forwards, or any forwards at all, if we can't execute that killer ball. Abdi plays that role best, not just by splitting the defence in half, but by filling that lovely bit of space behind the front two and in behind their last midfield man. How often did we see the opposition's defence back-track at speed whilst Abdi bombed forward? I see McGugan as someone who could play this role, but unfortunately for us he's dogsh*t.

It's true that you don't need a pacy striker to do well. If you don't have one, however, you need to use a formation that doesn't hinge on possessing one. 3-5-2 is a formation that is generally considered to require a speedy striker in order to function most effectively.

We don't necessarily need a fast striker to do well, but we will if we continue with 3-5-2 next year. It forces the opposition to keep their defensive line further back, thus allowing the midfielders to take control of the centre and leverage the 5 in the middle that the formation facilitates.

A pacey striker that can finish then, how much will that cost? Any names? We need a good striker not necesscarily a track machine.

Vydra was not just a pacey striker, he was an excellent footballer with good movement and quality shooting ability.

The transfer attention a focused Vydra got last season may be enough for him to consider coming back the season he has hady.

If not then I imagine that after everything we know, even thou some may still refuse to believe it, is that we will be looking to find a an unpolished gem with potential

So for me, my main hopes are based on what we have.

    To retain TD & FF

For MR to start next season a lot more championship savvy

For us to take advantage of our inherited scouting network and have an option that gives opposition defences something else to worry about

For me, other than a few occasions (away at Brighton comes to mind), MV success came more from his ability as a finisher and the quality of passes he received more from just raw pace

This obsession with a pacey striker reminds me of the discussions we had when Darius Henderson was here. He had an avid following because of his high work rate and he never stopped running, totally oblivious to the fact that 9 times out of 10 he couldn't hit a barn door from 10 yards and was a complete donkey.

If Renegie gets the goals over the rest of this season that his record suggests he is capable of then what we need are wing backs who can get to the line and give him and Deeney some decent service.

As far as next season is concerned I think we can add the name Jakubiak to the list of strikers. I'm pretty certain he'll be looking to get on the bench. He has developed well this season and if his spell Braintree works to good effect then we'll have another academy debutant next season.

Check this incredible goal scored just this afternoon in the Spanish top division for Osuasuna against 5th placed Sevilla.

You know La Liga ? The league that currently has 3 representatives in the QFs of the Champions League and arguably the best league in the world.

The bloke who scored this awesome goal is called Javier Acuna, maybe we could get him, for next season ?
