Don't think its a bad deal for them, only 22 so could turn out to be a Clyne still purchase

Probably being paid via instalments and with clauses like staying up.

Deulofeu to Everton for little over £4M?

Deal of the summer so far.

That, and Milner on a free.

I think the Mings deal is fantastic. he will be a top centre half for a top 4 club at some point.

Seen a lot of Mings and most of our local are season ticket holders and after the early excitement when he came into the side his performances in the latter part of last season were very disappointing. General opinion in Ipswich is that its a fantastic deal and he won't be greatly missed, he had already become a legend in his own mind which is never a great thing, still he'll be back in the Championship in 12 months.

I can't say whether it's a good deal but you look at Deulofeu and it just hits home how overpriced every English player is.

As if Bournemouth don't have a right to look at the likes of Capoue for 9m and laugh though. Were not exactly setting the league alight with value signings.

Nobody. That's the point. Were certainly being linked with enough spurs rejects for that price tag, and early signs suggest that the Italians that we have bid for don't want to come to us. You, I and the rest of watford know that we are likely to make some very good signings but until that happens I'd warn against criticising other clubs transfer policies.

Who's to say we won't miss out on our targets, find out that Mings would have been our next choice and have to sign Paul Konchesky instead.

We can point and laugh and criticise and claim Mings isn't worth £8m but there were enough on here saying they like the look of him if we go up.

I'm confident we will start the season with a strong squad with some fantastic additions. Until that happens I'll be staying well clear of taking the **** out of another team signing someone that was gaining a good reputation in the game.

Whilst this is true, I think those people were meaning if the fee were right, aka around 4m. For an extra 4m they could have approached Clyne who's a year older and has 5 caps for England...

  14. Travis Bickle

Yeah but it's all speculation until then, and Pozzos very rarely disclose fees, so we may never find out. Anyway, I agree with you. I said on another thread that the amount paid is for the accountants to worry about. Judging him as a signing Bournemouth have done well to get Mings, and I reckon they'll sell him for £25m in 2-3 seasons.

  15. LPC213

    LPC213 Reservist

Well they could have approached him but it would have ended there. Would he have left Southampton for Bournemouth, especially with Liverpool knocking on the door?

I get the feeling he is overpriced because he is English, not because he's a bad player necessarily.

Not to go all Frazier Right Boot on you but....

We've added Huth on a permanent transfer after a magnificent loan spell and Shinji Okazaki from Mainz. Good business so far with Fuchs on a free too. The amount of faith shown in our Nige has been remarkable, with £30mil worth of strikers added in the last 12 months in Ulloa, Kramaric and Okazaki.

Like yourselves with Watford's exciting squad, I have to pinch myself when I look at the team we're putting togather.

This is going to sound very standard anti-Leicester/Bournemouth/any team apart from us, but can you explain the Okazaki transfer, to an outsider.

Why is a 29 year old who scored 12 goals last season worth £7m+?

  18. Filbert

It's a fair question, if I was a defensive Liverpool fan I'd direct you to his fine international strike rate or the youtube compilations. The honest answer is no one knows if he'll do well. The thing that gives me an faith that he will do well is the fact that our magnificent coach and chief scout Steve Walsh (not that one) has said that we've been watching him for two years. He's got a terrific track record of scouting and signing players from abroad. Mahrez and Kramaric will go on to much bigger and better things than Leicester, as well as Wasilewski and Knockaert who settled instantly. He's big on looking for the right characters, with high work rate who suit the playing style.

I'm sure a lot of thought, time and effort has gone into signing Okazaki. Walsh and Pearson have earned the trust of Leicester fans so we'll just have to wait and see.

His signing does however signal the end of Chris Wood's time at the club and possibly Nugent, unless someone throws silly money at us for Vardy, then Nuge will stay.

Wasn't Kramaric your record signing? I only watched one Leicester match, the 0-0 draw with Sunderland and he was on the bench and when he came on he was poor.

Obviously this isn't a fair reflection of his time with you but has he actually been any good?

  20. Filbert

    Filbert Leicester supporting bloke

He is our record signing, yes. He's a really, really good prospect. Obviously I'd rather he didn't cost the club £10mil but so many clubs were sniffing around him we had to be decisive. He's still young, bedded in gently by Nige. He is so silky on the ball, a genuinely gifted dribbler.

The less said about that Sunderland game the better! Not only did I lose faith that we'd stay up after that, I think I lost the will to live.

I think he'll be a very astute signing.

Mings is a massive risk. Imo he's more Titus bramble than sol Campbell. Genuinely think Bournemouth would have been better off with Marriappa who is available. Leicester are the only team I can see doing well in the window so far.

Hilarious transfer story of the summer...

Gervinho's move to Al-Jazira in UAE has been called off because of his demands for a helicopter and a private beach.

If you're going to go and waste your career in a league like that, you may as well demand whatever the **** you like whilst you do it.

Stoke have agreed a £12m fee for Shaquiri!! First Bojan and now Shaquiri. Old Hughes doesn't mess about in the transfer window does he? Massive signing if it goes through

Looking at Skybet's odds, I can only assume once we've made some of those extra signings we've been heaviliy rumoured (and I hope Perotti sees our statement of intent by signing Holebas and decides to go for it) that compared to some of our lower half of the table rivals our odds will change drastically http://www.skybet.com/football/premier-league

I still can't believe that out of the promoted sides Bournemouth seem to be reckoned to do the best, so far Norwich haven't made significant signings but I think they are only a few additions away from a slightly better team that was a little unlucky to go down in 2014. As for Bournemouth £8m on Mings and a reported £40k p/w for Distin as their main business this summer?

I don't want to sound arrogant, but it at least appears that Gino is going for top 10 type players so I'd be astounded if we finish bottom, that's not to say a difficult season may be ahead.

West Ham are closing in on ten million pound Ogbonna from Juventus.

A lot of money, but if they get him, I think he could be the signing of the summer so far.
