She does seem to have a lot of confidence, but she's absolutely nowhere near the most smug and self-satisfied people on TV.

Piers Morgan. Simon Cowell. Pretty much any TV journalist/ comedian from Oxbridge. I'd put her, at a stretch, at Louis Theroux levels.

If she wasn't a woman, it wouldn't even be a talking point.

I think that it's more a combination of her shtick and her 'high' media profile. Her gender is irrelevant for the criticism her dreadful 'act' receives and, TBF, her writings are pretty awful as well.

She's harmless enough and more to the point it is nice to have an hour on Monday evenings where you can exercise your brain cells first with Only Connect and then University Challenge.

The sequences can be difficult especially if you do not know the music clues. The walls are my speciality and I resolve them pretty quickly along with the missing vowels round. Compared to other game shows they are a level above.

Top-heavy too. Husky voice. Enough for me. Particularly on a Friday night. Any attempt at witty, intellectual conversation would be a bonus but unlikely to be reciprocated by me at that point.

Apologies for lowering the tone. You cryptics carry on. More of an Eggheads/Mastermind/Univ. Challenge man myself. Which, I freely admit, are more a test of general knowledge rather than raw intelligence. Same with quick v cryptic crosswords. Maybe I'm just resistant about putting myself into another's mind.

If anyone is a cricket buff then this weeks OC and UC would have yielded points. One wall contained the clues Philander, Donald, Morkel and Proctor which stood out like a sore thumb. The attempt being made to confuse Donald with the suffix duck and Philander possibly as a son of Apollo.

And in UC there were questions on what was unusual about several Test matches. Simple as pie. A tie between the Windies and Australia and a match abandoned in the Windies due to a dangerous pitch.
