Because the Premier League threatened to cut funding to the Football League if the vote didn't pass or something along those lines if I recall correctly.

You hit the nail on the head here, I think that Anya is a prime example of this. He was rejected by Wycombe Wanderers and was lucky enough to be recommended to a football academy in Spain and the rest is history.

We should rename Harefield to Campo Lepre, that would really get Samuels in a spin.

If he does leave, I hope he sits on their bench for a few years when he is older and then spends the rest of his career at Barnet.

Hate United so much but all the top teams do it unfortunately

I'd love to see him go on and do well. I still like seeing Ashley Young etc doing well, knowing they started their careers with us.

I genuinely think he's got a better chance of doing well if he stays with us until he's 21/22 though.

I find the concept of them being able to enter a player into a competition while they engage in a trial-come-poach extremely distasteful.

Being a trialist is one thing, but entering them into an actual competition (ESPECIALLY one that the current owning club also competes in) is just not right. They should have to make the decision to either sign him or send him back.

If he gets injured playing in that cup, we'll have to deal with it.

Nothing personal against the kid, its just I don't want United/England getting anything out of him as the whole system is a joke

I also like seeing Ashley Young do well, the difference is Ashley proved himself for us first, and commanded a huge transfer fee when he went which benefitted our club.
This kid has had his head turned by the idea of being a United player, and is happy to leave having been given the break at Watford but not giving anything back in return.

I think when it comes to moves like this at such a young age the player in question thinks they have made it. Obviously being 16 and on trial at Man United is going to be a big deal for anyone but I think if the move goes ahead the attitude will change. Obi has the offer of a scholarship and a 1yr pro deal with Watford on the table - I'm not sure many clubs would offer that at such a young age.

Talking of the attitude of "making it" by signing for a big club....Wilfried Zaha is a prime example. Rumour doing the rounds that earlier in preseason the players were told that they could take the next day off if they liked but implied that the should be in. All players turned up except Zaha. So far on Utd's tour most players have played, Zaha hasn't.

If the kid gets taken on at Man Utd he will have made it financially but really can't he see his chances of first team action would be so so limited particularly in that position.

Are we in the milk cup again? if so I hope our defenders kick lumps out of him

So young Obi's has had his head turned by the big boys and is happy to screw his current club over (the same one that nurtured him and gave him his chance) to get there?

I hope he ends up regretting this move in 5 years time. When he does, there'll be absolutely no sympathy from me, and a big fat "I told you so" sticker I'll slap on his chest.

It will be a big shame if we lose 2 of our most promising youngsters this year. Panos and Ogo were doubtless players who would have made the first team at some point in the next 2 seasons.

Sorry but it's still too soon to say it's 'doubtless' they'd have made it. Plenty of youngsters have come along, banged in goals for fun and then barely made it in pro football.

Even Liam Henderson was given a long chance in the first team. I was more referring to playing a few games for the first team, maybe as rather, rather than becoming a staple figure in the team.

Really is no big loss. Won't go into details as to why but will be pretty amazed if United sign him seen as Arsenal and Liverpool both rejected the chance to do so last summer.

I just hope he does well because I'm not pathetic or bitter enough to wish failure on a young player simply because he would prefer to play for a different club to the one that I support.

Didn't get a hat-trick in an 11-0 win? Glad he's gone in that case! In all seriousness, good luck to him, hope it works out for him. Obviously would have been nice to keep him but there's not a lot you can do now he's seen what United can offer to a young player.

Yes a loan deal to Port Vale beckons in 5 years time then they'll release him in a few years later and end up playing for Berkhamstead.

    You heard it here first.

Suggested song for him, when we sign him in 7 years after obsessively talking about it in the interim:

I'm looking for the Ogo Obi
    The funny little Ogo Obi
His mother was an earwig, his father was a whale,
I'm going to put a little bit of salt on his tail.
I want to find the Ogo-Obi
While he's playing on his old banjo.

Forget him, Rosenthal needs to be put on a pro contract ASAP. Looking at his videos on YouTube he's going to be a very very good player.
