Nigel Pearson - Manager

Not necessarily - I think it's within the realms of possibility that we improve under him to a good enough degree to convince the owners that he's worth keeping, despite us still being relegated.

As you say it will require a miracle to keep us up, so it may be harsh if we don't renew his contract were he to get us to within a point or two of safety by the season's end and he has a plan for how the squad could develop in the following season.

    Another Leicester fan here.

The problem you have got is that whilst Pearson is a very decent manager, he’s probably the wrong man at the wrong time for you.

Leicester fans will rightly tell you about the amazing job he did or us in the long run, but you need a quick fix to stay up and your owners aren’t exactly patient. There also needs to be a bit of balance to the argument because when Pearson was sacked it wasn’t for footballing reasons, but he had taken us as far as we could go with him.

On the one hand, it’s true that he built the majority of the Leicester team that won the title, and without breaking the bank, even by Championship standards. He brings the right characters in and he will get them playing for him. He will root out the bad eggs and won’t make excuses if they don’t work hard enough. If he gets his chance to bring in his own staff that’s a huge bonus, as Craig Shakespeare and Steve Walsh were pivotal for him.

It’s also true that he was in charge whilst that very talented side was rock bottom of the League for most of the season. That was largely to do with tactics – we were a good attacking team but Pearson insisted on being defensive, which put pressure on our weak defence and nullified the threat of players like Vardy, who was mainly played out wide in the Premier League would you believe. That’s not an isolated incident of him playing square pegs in round holes, and his substitutions were often questionable throughout his tenure.

It sometimes took a long time for the penny to drop - and he needed several glaring examples of things going right before he realised his best team - but when it did we saw how his work was starting to bear fruit. This was evident when we started to gel in the Championship, when we managed the great escape and then again when Ranieri managed to make the most of the team Pearson had largely assembled.

Pearson is not a manager for the short term. What’s most likely to happen is that you go down and he is sacked before he has time to turn you around. But if he was given a couple of years, you might have a real team full of promise rather than a collection of individuals who just see you as a stepping-stone to bigger clubs.

And, for all the people that call him arrogant and a bully, he’s an honest man, which is refreshing in football.

Latest from The Athletic. In amongst a profile on Pearson, including telling a Leicester fan to "f&ck off and die", throttling the throat of James McArthur, having a stand up row with Derby's owner Mel Morris and a spat with Gary Lineker, I think he sounds brilliant.

It is confirmed that Craig Shakespeare will be his assistant, and they want John Eustace on board too, if they can prise him away from QPR. Giraldi will remain but he wont be on the touchline anymore. That's another step in the right direction.

Mullins or Stack could be promoted to first team duties, depending on Pearson's requirements in the coaching set-up.

I've got a better idea for Giraldi. Nigel can ring a taxi for him, Gino can pay the air fare and he can sod off

My initial thoughts...Giraldi is like Seumas Milne....say his name 3 times and he appears...Giraldi...feck off out of the changing rooms.

Sadly, like most Premier League clubs now, our fanbase is becoming swamped with the younger generation who live in a world of FIFA and stats as opposed to real life. The comments on pretty much every social media post by the club backs that up. It was the same when we were after Sarr in the summer - the hysteria from some is excruciating to witness.

It's seems to me Giraldi is a trojan horse.

Something much deeper about his employment/role at the club than it appears on the surface. Would not be surprised if there is some sort of personal family connection between them. He's Pozzo's trusted eyes & ears in the camp that's for sure.

How many of them understood him though? We have at least 1 senior player who has been here 3 years and doesn't speak English.

Tbf think most of ours have some form of English..

It tends to be the managers that don't!

I like what I’m hearing from Pearson.

You can tell he doesn’t take any bullsh*t from anyone.

Also it’s nice to actually be able to understand what our manager is saying.

Enjoyed the extended interview with him on our YouTube channel. Spoke a lot of sense and like many others said it makes a nice change to understand what our manager is saying. None of this 'in this moment' rubbish, he knows where we are and he knows how to get teams out of this position. It's going to be tough but let's hope his drive and motivation will spur the players on and give us a chance of survival.

I agree. Is there some way we can stop under 40s turning up to games to keep the support pure? I've heard some worrying stories that some non league teams have even had the younger generation turning up to watch. I hope it is just scare mongering, as there is no place for it in the modern game.

It's a slippery slope, before we know it only babies will be allowed in the stadium.*

*obviously when I watched Watford when I was 9 that was different as that was 'back in the day'.

Well worth a listen. The first official interview with Pearson.

He certainly doesn't take fools lightly. His entire demeanour is tough, fearless, respectful, and win whichever way we can. I'm thinking some of the dark arts could be seen over the coming weeks.

I don't think we're going to be playing attractive football, but we will be scrapping for whatever we can get, and for now, that suits me just fine. It'll be refreshing see the team play with a passion and willingness to do whatever it takes to win.

Pearson said he was surprised Watford had not won at home, as he genuinely considers Vicarage Road as a tough place for an opponent to get a result. He may be thinking back to his Leicester days, when we usually beat his team at home.
