I hope he pops in before we start and we might get to see a bit of fight for the whole game.
I'm really looking forward to this

I think it depends on how we do. If there are clear signs of improvement and we make a go on of it, I would say yes. Realistically we are down and it would take a miraculous recovery to pull this off

I was happy with QSF's appointment under the circumstances, and I am happy with this appointment under the circumstances.

As regards to Javi Gracia, I didnt know who he was so was neither happy or sad (under the circumstances).

Just strikes me as exactly the sort of appointment you'd make in the Championship.

British manager who knows the league well unless they went down the overseas route again which has worked well for clubs in that league ofcouse .

And he would at least know the squad and what needs to be done .

Equally, will he stay if he keeps us up? Or will the Pozzos hit reset?

Probably would have still have been Leicester manager had it not been for his son’s racist sex tape.

    I’ll counter those numbers with;

    - A full season with a top 6 Championship squad in League 1

    - An utterly horrific time in the Prem until a miraculous escape that defied all logic and reason.

He was excellent in the Championship though, so I’m very confused about whether this will work or not. From what I saw, with my own two (bespectacled) eyes from row CC of the south stand, he was horribly out of his depth in the Premier League. Incapable of keeping the ball for prolonged periods of time. What he can do is ride a wave of momentum, something we saw in two promotion seasons, a play off season and a great escape.

His coaching staff are as big a deal as he is, Shakespeare was credited as the guy that keeps the spirits up in the dressing room. He made shrewd signings like Chris Powell and Kevin Phillips who moved from playing to coaching seamlessly and have a real devotion to NP. He can get foot soldiers to follow him into battle, he just doesn’t always choose his battles too wisely.

I’m honestly chuffed to **** for him, he deserves this opportunity.

The man was loved at Leicester by fans & ownership but the mess his son got into in Thailand sealed his fate. I think he might be the right person to avoid relegation but not sure the Pozzos will keep him on as he just not as fashionable as they seem to like.

2029 Watford Observer @Twitter *Breaking News* The Pearson Stand is unveiled at VR stadium in recognition of Sir Nigel Pearson remarkable contribution in the last decade Watford FC history & longest ever serving manager behind the late Graham Taylor. In 2019/2020 he oversaw the remarkable comeback seasons of recent times where Watford stayed up after a very poor start. Then only 2 seasons later were crowned unexpected Europa league champions. Sir Elton John & David Furnish were equally ecstatic when the club won it's first FA cup final at the third time of asking in 2026.

I am not unhappy with this, I think he is from a similar mould to Fat Sam & Sean Dyche.

The jury is still out, but I have to say I am feeling quite positive about this appointment, and I am actually beginning to believe that we might just stay up under this Pearson - Shakespeare partnership

A great appointment by your club...we’re all rooting for you in Leicester. Most level-headed Leicester fans will recognise the fact that it was Pearson’s groundwork which has helped shape us for what we are seeing right now (yes, we weren’t great against you!)

I was really sad to see him go to the sheepshaggers and I think they sacked him too soon. Their loss is hopefully your gain.

I find the contract length a little strange. The only conclusion I can think of, is: maybe he wasn’t your first choice but maybe you got turned down by one or two managers?

Maybe the board looked at his Derby and OHL records and thought they’d give him 6 months to get a taster? I don’t know. I’d have probably given him 18 months with the carrot of a new contract for avoiding relegation.

If you do keep him, he’ll have no problem clearing out the slackers and anyone not committed. If there’s been a lack of effort, I wouldn’t worry too much about that any more.

Nige will get one or two clever loans in too and I can also see him getting the best out of Deeney. Cleverly knows Pearson reasonably well having played for us under him.

The problem your board have got is, between now and May, with the threat of relegation hanging over you, he has not got the time to fully express himself on your club. There will be tons of stuff he’ll want to do behind the scenes but is practically impossible between now and May.

You may get one or two ugly wins, but seriously, who cares when you’re down there? Survival is the name of the game. I don’t know what your board are like except that it appears they move managers on quickly. Surely they can’t expect sexy football and survival? This is where I think it’s slightly unfair on him. He may keep you up with a few ugly wins and I’d hope the board wouldn’t judge him on that alone. I’d be gutted to see him keep you up to be then pushed aside. I know he can do a job for you, given time.

I’m sure you view of him is like the majority of the country: Disliked mainly because of a one-sided portrayal by the media. You’ll see he’s a little bit different to what the media want you to believe.

I really want him to succeed with you but Nige just needs a bit of time, something that is really tight. Will you stay up? I don’t know but hope so. I would have put money on it if the appointment was 1st November. A part of me still thinks you’ll do it. Great Escape Part 2! Shakey and Nige work well together.

The Premier League has just got very interesting!!

Do you really think that Gino should pay any attention whatsoever as to what us fans post on social media (either here or elsewhere) when making his decisions? Would any appointment have been 'universally popular'?

What is pretty clear is that, on here at least, this appointment is being rather well received.

The people unhappy with this seem to think we had our pick of coaches currently out of work. The reality is we're rock bottom, don't pay much and only wanted someone until the end of the season, any coach like Setien would have said no immediately I'd imagine. They would have also gauged the opinion of the senior players in the squad and if it's true they wanted a British coach then that's what they've got.

There's nothing we can do about it now so we may as well get behind him, I'm interested to see how a British coach does here, it could be just what this squad needs.

If he keeps us up, or comes close to doing so, he should be given next season. In fact, I find it difficult to see a scenario where keeping him on isn't the sensible option.

I'm quite pleased with this appointment, generally for reasons which have already been mentioned by others on here - the biggest one being that he doesn't seem to be the kind of manager that tolerates old pros living off of past glories and not pulling their weight anymore. Hopefully he'll tell a few of them to either shape up or ship out (and considering that Deeney now seems incapable of shaping up any more, perhaps we'll finally see the back of him).

Also, given that I'm still expecting we'll get relegated, he seems the kind of manager who should give us a decent shot of getting promoted again.

The problem is, the way the deal has been reported, it seems as though he'll be off in the summer if he doesn't pull of a miracle, which as far as I'm concerned, makes no sense.

Yeha if that's the case it's a pretty pointless appointment. Should be an 18 month contract at the very least. He's nothing more than a caretaker at present
