I don't know what the words are, at least I don't remember. I barely remember anything about this 'Watford' or 'football' anymore at all. I like it this way. One of the positives of this terrible crisis for me has been that football has ended and I like it.

Oh be glad you don’t know the words.

Something along the lines of Pearson being exactly what we need and how he’s going to keep us in the Premier League.

    As I said, small time.

    Bump

Seen a lot of watford fans on social media calling for Pearson’s contract to not be renewed after this season ends.

Seems that a lot of fans have lost faith in him. I’m torn. There is part of me that wants to give him a full season, pre season to get the fitness levels up etc and see what he can do. Then there is another part of me that says, his not the one to take us forward, regardless of the league we’re in. I’m disappointed that he’s been too soft on our team. I was hoping to see some passion and fight from the dugout, as well as the pitch, but nothing is there.

So if we get rid of Pearson, and knowing the Pozzo’s love for a bargain basement manager, here is my guess list. (Spoiler, not one of them join).

All of them are either currently out of work, contract is about to expire, or have only 1 year left on their current contract according to transfermarkt. Some might be unrealistic (mainly the first two).

    Marcel Gallardo - 4312
    Gaizka Garitano - 4231
    Markus Weinzierl 4231/352
    Leonardo Jardim 4231
    Vincenzo Montella 352
    Viktor Goncharenko 3421
    Andrea Stramaccioni 4321
    Eddie Howe 442/4231
    Marco Silva 4231

Up until 2 games ago, I was of the opinion Pearson was the man for us. He still maybe, but the show of apathy against Burnley, and no reaction, only a continuation of that form against Southampton has put a big question mark against him as far as I'm concerned.

He did steer us to a good place, but he's now letting it all slip away. I'm so surprised the last two performances are on his watch. They have been as bad, if not worse, than anything QSF or Gracia served up in their final days.

Personally, I think Southampton would have been his final game had we still had 20 odd games left this season, but we've only got 6. Would sacking him and hiring someone else be seen as positive or negative? Certainly the British players would not like it, and they are quite influential within the squad.

We'll almost certainly lose against Chelsea, that's expected, but failing to beat Norwich will surely see him gone.

Even if we do stay up, I think the board will say thanks, but no thanks. I think the last two matches and overall poor run of form has marked his card.

  9. The club can’t keep blaming managers

I sincerely hope he stays when we go down and clears out the deadwood, I wouldn’t be surprised though if he decided he didn’t want to manage again in the champ and went back to his retirement

I suspect he's been told he's not staying past the end of the season and his heart isn't in trying to motivate the selection of mercenaries and bottlers that make up our squad.

Why would you demotivate a manager at this crucial stage?
Even my half wit of a colleague wouldn't do that and he has the brain of a small hen in its late forties.

Who knows? I'm sure most of our managers have known that time's up before they've actually gone.

Of course a slight tweak could be:

I suspect he's decided he's not staying past the end of the season and his heart isn't in trying to motivate the selection of mercenaries and bottlers that make up our squad.

Will he want to stay and be told who to buy , sell and loan?

I know that is how the modern game works but we really do give the manager no control over the transfer market.

They just get given players and told to get on with it.

I think the problem may be having a director of football standing/sitting behind you all game looking over your shoulder may be the problem, Managers get fed up with it which gets through to the players! They all think why bother and loose interest!

Maybe they do have a say in terms of players being lined up but the process all seems to be done by others whilst he concentrates on the current squad.

I would personally prefer if we stuck with the current set up. Obviously we have player attitude problems, which at present can't be sorted. Give them a chance to shake up the squad and go from there. Otherwise I'd assume we will be in the same predicament next season whatever league. But we all no it will be the Championship :D

The problem I have is if the manager goes the squad probably remains very similar and it's the same old bump and then back to the rubbish.
I think it's a squad issue Watford have and any manager coming in just ends up hitting the same walls.
The party says it all really.
The captain expressed concern about coming back to training due to the danger to his child's health and when full contact training is in full swing his teammates have a party.
The team are taking the mick.

Pearson has done a tremendous job giving us a chance of staying up, and if we do manage to stay in the Premier League then he's done an incredible job considering where we were before he took charge. I think our main issue is lack of quality in the squad and the character of some of our players, not Nigel. Preferably I would like to see him and Shakespeare build their own squad to suit how he wants to play. I believe that part of the reason we have no particular way of playing is that Nigel Pearson hasn't got the players to play the way that he wants to. If we do get relegated then it is unquestionable in my opinion that Nigel stays, he knows the division and has been successful in it.

I'm sure he's on for a massive great bonus for keeping us in the Premier League, so regardless of whether he's staying, I would think that is motivation enough to not down tools!

It is not just the cash bonus for keeping us up that is motivation - it is also the thought where would he go after Watford if he wanted to stay employed in professional football.

With the inevitable cash crisis throughout the professional game following the pandemic limiting job opportunities. Look at the guy at Stoke. Great job at Northern Ireland, could be virtually out of the game if they go down and he gets his P45.

Stay up or go down, I suspect Pearson won’t be at Vicarage Road to oversee preparations for next season. Stay up, he gets his cash and the chance of employment at another club. Go down, and it could be the end of his managerial career.

Drop he stays, stay up and some fella from the Greek 2nd division will step in. I agree with comments above already made. They’re some issues in this squad players strolling off the pitch laughing having just lost. Andre Gray taking 70k a week breaking rules not giving a **** about the consequences. Technical director that really has no real experience and has proved to be as much use as a chocolate tea pot.
All this is of course not NP’s fault but I don’t think he has the authority to do much about it. He’s a head coach not a manager. Here’s your squad now win some games obviously we have players who don’t want to be here but he’s forced to deal with it. I’m torn wether to keep him, maybe a transfer window and full pre season and a contract that’s giving him some stability would work give him some say get rid of the deadwood and the ****s who pretend to be footballers go get some players that he wants. But we all know it doesn’t work like that anymore and player power will always win.

Obviously he had to sign a contract extension beyond 1st June. Maybe a longer deal came up in conversation based on what he had achieved and he didn’t like our response?

Rather stupidly my main concern was that he’d keep us up and then not want to stay or another club wanted him. That really isn’t the worry now. I don’t doubt there is a monetary reward for keeping us up which makes the last two performances rather alarming. His own body language and demeanour matches the players which is not what you’d expect. He’s a principled man and maybe the money is not the most important thing to him.

I’m a bit torn about whether he is the right man in either league. We’ve only got a good midfield and motivating them all to perform close to there best is probably a task beyond most managers, especially given our current circumstances.

He only had so much to work with, he looked at the squad made some tweaks and it actually worked perfectly. Gerry was integral to that and without him he hasn’t really got a plan B, but I’m not really sure that’s his fault. Our defence can’t individually go more than one or two games without making a calamitous mistake so he’s always got one hand tied behind his back. Sarr is the only player that can cause the opposition any problems and the rest of the team can’t get in the end of anything he produces.

Pearson is the motivator who sets the standards and Shakespeare is the tactical brain and coach. This combo should have been enough to have pulled us away from the drop. It started so well, and from that platform they created, they should have seen the job through.

But they've failed. No one can see it any differently. The last 11 games, even allowing for the mitigating circumstances of Covid-19 and the loss of Geri, has been disastrous. The bad run started long before the shutdown.

I think Pearson/Shakespeare are better than this, and maybe a new season, clean slate, a team he wants to build etc, things could be different. But I'd be very surprised if Gino kept faith in him regardless of how the season finishes.

The past 11 games would have shown enough. He's not able to pull us out of a bad run. I hope against hope we can get the results we need, but I'd be amazed if we have the same coaching setup next season.

As I said before, there was discontent towards Javi in the second half of 17/18, yet with a full pre-season under him, we had a great season. I'm willing to give Pearson the same chance, whatever division we're in (there's absolutely no guarantee that whatever names are bandied around will be a success), though my patience will be severely tested if we still see Deeney on the team sheet for Tuesday

If Pearson can’t motivate the players for the Norwich game then I really don’t know what he brings.

Tactically he’s never been great. He came in and switched the formation and starting XI to what any of the fans would and it worked. But with injuries, or against sides that set up to negate our threat, he has no solutions.
