Leicester players loved him. Didn't work out for him as manager but a brilliant assistant

I don't understand where this bully tag comes from. He seems a top bloke and was actually smiling twice during today's game when things were on a knife edge, and this confidence must surely be reflected in our players' recent performances. Even during his short spell at Southampton when he saved them from relegation from League 1, he made enough of a positive impact for many of their fans to be quite sorry when he went, especially when he was replaced by a no-mark like Jan Poortvliet who contributed heavily to them going down (but then Nige had the last laugh when he took you lot back up in their place, having being pipped to survival the previous season by Southampton). He's tough but fair, and certainly nice when he needs to be, and with a good deal more dynamism than just about all of our managers during the Pozzo era, however good the results have been at times.

It's only five games in but already it's thanks to them (and Mullins and Stack who started the ball rolling after the shambles they inherited from Flores) that I've feeling a connection with this club with all of us in it together, that I've rarely felt since GT, the Lewington era and the early part of Aidy's spell apart, and long may it continue.

How refreshing to have a coach that is articulate and honest in his answers

Very impressed with the big man so far.

It’s been lovely to enjoy watching us play with intensity and purpose again. We’ve played some decent stuff too, especially in transition when switching the ball to the right flank when Sarr has pulled into space.

I was one of the idiots dead against his appointment, but he has been a revelation.

Calm, collected, articulate and has got the players playing both for him and for eachother, and brought the confidence and fight back.

    Long may it continue.

Yeah, I was underwhelmed to start with, but you didn’t have to dig too deep to see why things didn’t work out at Derby and in Belgium. I’d just assumed he’d fallen by the wayside and was outdated, but that’s clearly not the case, or at least it doesn’t look like it is.

Made up for big Nige and his size 17 white trainers.

My favourite ever Leicester manager, even though we’ve won bigger trophies under other managers.

Someone mentioned feeling a connection again above. That’s exactly what he gave us (twice). He made me proud to be a Leicester fan again when we’d been through some dark dark times.

Hope he continues to smash it, and when Walsh sorts out his contract with Everton to work again properly. Watch out for some fantastic signings to boot.

Just catching up with this thread. 'super_horns' seems to get on with Leicester fans on their board, in the same way as Filbert does with us here. Offers an alternative view and isn't abusive. I have an idea of who the poster might be on here and, if I'm right, they behave in the same way on here - i.e. they give a view without feeling the need to belittle others in order to make themselves feel good. Not something I'd expect you to be able to relate to.

Super horns is sound. He/she/it/saucepan lid* talks a lot of sense and offers a good neutral perspective without being a WUM.

Back on topic, we’re still pleased immensely for you and Nige. I see Troy speaks highly of him already, saying he’s been treated like a man for the first time in 7 years.

My previous post after Nige being announced, stated you may still stay up. I’d like to change that please! I think you will. I know it’s early days and you may hit bumps in the road, but I think you will do it now.

Now you’ve had a little time to see him, it’s good to see that Watford fans actually are starting to see the man for who he is, not like who the media want you to see. I know I said this in my post but it’s pleasing to see that many of you get it now he’s wearing your colours.

I stand by my claim that given time, he can do good things. He’s no miracle worker but will do you proud.

    He is certainly ticking the boxes at the moment;
    • Is getting amazing results
    • Actually gives an honest appraisal at the end of the game
    • Has built up a massive rapport with the players (see end of game clips where he genuinely congratulates them).
    • Wear's a that strange black thing that is like a slimmed down Michellin Man

I stayed very quiet on his appointment simply because I thought it was a poor choice.
He certainly has made a difference and we look like the team I thought we should be this season. We are not the worst team in this league, in fact I would say we should be in the same position we finished last season in. It now seems that Pearson has given the belief back to the players which was sorely missing and that’s a massive plus.
There is still a lot of work to do so I’m not quite ready to start hero worshipping him but it’s a heck of a start

Now the dust has settled from a busy Christmas period, after our loss to Liverpool I was encouraged by the improvement on show but the hard facts was that we only had 9 points and 9 goals for in 17 matches.

It's incredible that just 11 days ago was the morning before the Man Utd match that we have accumulated 10 points scoring 8 goals, the only goals conceded were a needless penalty and a wicked deflection from a speculative shot. However Foster can take most of the credit for us only conceding two having made a string of remarkable saves.

While I don't expect this form to continue forever, it would be massive to beat Bournemouth on Saturday week as that would probably take us out of the bottom 3 and psychologically important to the squad.

I too was less than certain that Pearson was the right appointment and am also chuffed that to date I am being proven wrong.

I am however extremely pleased that we didn't bring in Moyes, I know they gave Muff a whooping in his first game but the guy is like a personality vacuum sucking character out of any club he goes to. Amazing that a club appoints a new manager and then the club captain has to write an open letter to fans asking them to give him a chance!

This is a great interview....no ostrich moment sadly, but he speaks for over 15 minutes he speaks sense and honesty. You can see he isn’t that comfortable in interviews, but who cares, I don’t need a manager that can be slick in interviews. I won’t him to deliver with the team,

I like his interviewing style though, he comes across as himself and I like the way he offers alternative answers to questions rather than the usual platitudes, not by being evasive like many politicians, but by challenging the interviewer or putting some thought into an original response. He's a nice blend in personality of Graham Taylor and Chris Wilder, not as cheerful as the former but less serious than the latter.

The only thing I was bit disappointed by was the fact that no reference was made at all to the ill-fated Flores era when he remarked how surprised he was that we should have been in this situation at the bottom (it was clear the players weren't happy working under Flores, but I wonder much of this was actually discussed with Pearson?), and then little more was said about it before the interviewer moved on to the next question 30 seconds later. Understandable though that he wanted to stay mostly focused on the events post-QSF, and he probably felt any reference to Flores' ineptitude, however indirectly, wouldn't have been very classy (his return was a disaster but his heart was in the right place).

  34. As far as I'm aware I've not heard Pearson's style once referred to as a bloody "philosophy".

It's the big buzzword nowadays. Every manager must have one!

"A philosophy? He got an philosophy! You get an philosophy, you're a scientist".

Sometimes a manager just needs to, you know, manage.
