Our owners are terrified of relegation. This is why they panic as soon as we hit a bad run.

But, to be fair, all the runs we've been on prior to a sacking has seen a sustained poor run of form. Not just results, but the way the team are playing. Virtually every time, the team is flat, disorganised, uninterested and shambolic before a sacking. The writing was on the wall for Pearson. That poor run of form either side of the lock down was pretty bad.

I thought he would have gone after Southampton. That's when he should have gone really. I guess it did work out by keeping hold of him longer because we did win back-to-back matches after this game.

The thing is, Watford can play to a higher level. They prove this every time a new coach comes in. There is always a bounce in form and we play well for a while, get good results......then fade spectacularly. This is a never ending cycle....but it needs to be broken.

The board have to get over their relegation fears.....if we go down, then so bet it. You cannot let the players keep getting away with this. Show faith in the next guy. Support him through a bad run, but let him run things from a playing side and let him have influence on the players we sign. Players that suit him so he can create his team that play to his strengths. I think this is the only way we'll ever get out of the crazy hire and fire cycle.

Let's have some fun and go for Joey Barton. A scrap between him and Deeney would be interesting particularly if they're armed with lighted cigars!!

I'd take Dyche with open arms, we never should have got rid of him in the first place.

Gracia was the one harshly treated IMO. The rest that have followed have correctly been fired for one reason or another.

I must admit, I wouldn't really want him, but he would probably stabilise us for a short time. I could see the players getting bored with him very quickly though and forcing him out, as they always do.

I wouldn't even say Gracia was harshly sacked. His record prior to going was abysmal and we were clearly in a rut he could not pull us out of.

There's no way the board would ever stand by that. It was a shame though, as what preceded the bad run was very good. He kept us up after the nosedive from Snake, even though there was a strange anomaly of not scoring a single goal away from home. He then started the following season with 4 straight wins which pretty much guaranteed survival, even if you're only average from there on in. He got us to the FA Cup final and the pinnacle was that epic day at Wembley in the semi final. After that, we completely collapsed. Our form and results were so poor and this carried on to the following season. It was no surprise to me when he went. We were so under cooked against Brighton at home and it was a massive task to turn it around from there, which of course he wasn't able to do.

Dalic hardly has an impressive record. No thanks to Puel. Agree with Filbert awful manager. Ditto for Lamouchi. Detested by Forest fans. One thing that might help a new manager.

Get rid of fatty. Why would one want to manage when one cannot manage. Two get rid of player power led by a certain clique in bed with fatty.

The problem with how we treated Gracia was that getting rid of him 4 games into this season was definitely the wrong time. Apparently they wanted to get rid of him at the end of last season, but kept him for sentimental reasons as we'd had such a good season...why do that? Either get rid of him in the summer and let the new guy have some time to embed his ideas, or give Gracia time to turn it around, instead, we panicked and appointed a noted defensive manager (not that you'd know it from our performance at the Etihad) when we were already playing catch-up, who left so many winnable points out there on the table.

Besides, it goes beyond the manager really. 4 years or **** defensive recruitment would have left anyone struggling to really make a mark, and apparently Gracia didn't even know about Sarr (and certainly wasn't going to pick him given how he didn't play with out and out wingers). The Pozzos are mad, go on about 'philosophy', and then appoint someone with a completely philosophy to what they want. When was the last sensible managerial appointment they made, one that ticked all the boxes and didn't have any scope for disagreements?

Is he detested by Forest fans? I thought they were doing well this season

They seem to have played boring football, so probably not the most inspiring choice either way, although it doesn't seem the most realistic choice (not much of a step up even if we stay up and they don't go up, let alone if we go down). Dalic is a weird one, got to the World Cup final, but hasn't managed at a high level outside of that at club level, international football is a different beast, probably best avoided. We all know what we'd get with Puel, stodgy football, uninspiring results and a bye bye after about a year (probably less with us)

I would assume all those choices are geared towards us staying up, I can't imagine any of them coming here if we go down. Despite our fairly perilous financial state, I'd almost rather we go down and see what kind of managers we'd be in for in the Championship than go for those types

So they had all Summer and four games to butter up a new manager and they went with QSF. This is more than I can take today :p

Didn’t like the level of interference at Brighton from Paul Barber and Tony Bloom - they are nothing compared to our lot.

And the football there was awful. CB’s smashing it up to Glenn Murray every game whilst new signings that cost a lot sat on the bench - this infuriated their chairman.

Looking at what’s happening at our club, with our hierarchy? That’s why not Chris Hughton.

Looking at the realistic candidates near the front of the oddschecker market at the moment, and ignoring Sam Allardyce as he appears in every next manager market by default, I would choose him.

Hilarious ! Doubt Wycombe would get double figure points next season they were so lucky to be promoted. Wouldn't have been in top 6 if the season had finished as they were in free-fall after a great start.

The same was said about Pearson and Mel Morris, yet there was Pearson happily signing on the dotted line with Gino because he knew a shot at managing a Premier League club wasn't likely to come knocking any other way. Pragmatism (and probably £££) often overrides principles.

Cant comment on the interference part.
His style of football at Norwich was ok so it depends on the players at his disposal.

Theres nothing wrong with debating a new manager. We obviously need one now.

But let’s not pretend that any of these coaches come in and suddenly everything is okay because they ‘play good football’ or ‘did well at such and such club in such and such league’ ...whilst things are as they are behind the scenes and our players have the egos they have, the same issues will rise to the surface again.

We need to sort that out first and urgently. And then hire a coach accordingly. I’d rather Mullins is given the job on a long interim basis whilst a review is conducted of the club. And then act after that.

  35. Burnsy

Yes. That’s a reason why Hughton might take the job. My post was more directed at why he shouldn’t go for it and we shouldn’t give it to him.

I’m not for one minute suggesting he wouldn’t take it. I was commenting on the suitability for both parties.
