Newspaper’s eel reporting is slippery

    Eels ‘hyperactive’ due to cocaine levels in Thames claim researchers, claim journalists.

    Well actually no. Kings College researchers found more cocaine in London’s wastewater than expected. Bored researchers elsewhere once observed eels getting twitchy in a tank of water lightly laced with cocaine.

    So no London eels have actually been found with any cocaine traces or showing signs of hyperactivity. Pure urban myth making.

    The Thames is a huge body of water and there is going to be a lot more of a lot of things in it before you get to the charlie in hipster wee. This didn’t stop the wide reporting of this nonsense.
