News soon on Jokanovic's future

  1. As I said, it is, and you're right they'd all be important considerations, but maybe easier ones than people may think. I would imagine it would all be a hell of a lot worse if it he and they were jetting it to and from Thailand every other week...

  3. What? Ultimately he will sign, you seem to agree he will as well, let's leave it at that...

  4. He obviously didn't read your previous post that he replied to; where I thought you explained your case quite well.

That looks familiar.. oh yeah it was in the Wobby comments:

Quite frankly, he's probably sick of it. He's trying to spend time with his family who he hasn't seen since October and everyone left, right and centre is asking him if he's signed yet.

  8. as I said in my comment from WO site.......keep up Philippine!...

Bring back Boothroyd I say. With transfer dealings taken out of his hands he can concentrate on his strengths. Could be the perfect fit?

Yes, good call; Daniel T is just the man to lump the kick off down towards the corner flag.

The recent wobby makes it sound as if he is trying to hold us to ransom. If that turns out to be the case I would be pretty shocked because it doesn't seem in his character.

No idea if this guy knows his stuff but I am starting to get the feeling that Gino will be making a list of replacements soon. He doesn't seem the kind of guy who will be dictated to.

Of course it's all speculation but with Sunderland and Newcastle's names being thrown into the hat I wonder if he is waiting until they know for sure which division they will be playing in before entertaining their offers.

    Unfortunately entirely possible.

A bit risky on his part. He's already seen commitment in terms of recruitment from the owners and I can't see why anyone would want to go to one of England's biggest basket cases of a club.

His first choice is watford. I reckon the pozzos want a very performance based contract. I reckon Slav wants to see if they will give him the tools to actually perform.

Sure. But there's nothing to stop him testing the water elsewhere. He's only got to wait a week. Luckily, from the limited information available, neither Newcastle or Sunderland appear to pay their head coaches particularly well anyway.

I'm pretty certain Joka isn't the only person on the planet able to fill the role. Whoever the Pozzos bring in I'll be quite happy.

  22. Looking at the PL table, Newcastle still aren't quite safe yet they still have to play West Ham who are well above them, mind you Hull have to play Man U in their last game so on paper they probably will be. Think that would still be on Joka's mind right now, even if he did consider them, but I don't personally think he will. I still think Joka will stay, Watford as he says himself, are his first choice, and if any kind of deal can be struck between him and the club I'm sure it will be, however long it takes or however far apart they are. Ultimately agree with above post, whoever the Pozzos bring in, I'm sure it will be a good decision and one that is best for the club next season.

Twitter: Understand SJ has been offered a one year rolling contract, He wants the security of a 3 / 4 yr deal #watfordfc

From twitter, so almost certainly speculative 'ITK'-type nonsense. However, does seem very much like the Pozzos to want the flexibility and financial control of a one year rolling deal. Likewise, seems very likely that given his circumstances Joka might be holding out for something a little more concrete.

If that is the case, then a 2 year deal sounds like it would probably be a reasonable compromise.

If the Pozzos are insistent on a 1 year rolling contract, then that's a bit harsh on Slav.

Is it harsh? A 1 year contract would be harsh. 1 year rolling gives him the security of knowing he's got 1 year's pay to come every time he wakes up. Compared to a 2 year deal that's much better.

Depends if that means they can bin him easily at the end of it. If it gets to the end of year 1 can they turn round and say "clear your desk" and he doesn't get a penny?

It's rolling so at any point in the year he still has 1 year left and, presumably, compensation to match that if sacked.

    csdxl One Millionth Post

Unfortunately, I know only too well from personal experience that a 1 year rolling contract provides next to nothing in the way of security.

There is only one reason why the Pozzos would want a 1 year rolling contract and that is so they can bin Joka quickly and cheaply should things not go well or they find a better alternative. It minimises the amount of compensation down to at most a few months worth and seems like a commitment when in actual fact it's anything but. Hardly a ringing endorsement in Joka's ability given he's just got us to the Prem, so IF this is what's on the table then I honestly can't blame him for pushing for more security.

That said, the Pozzos are businessmen...pure and simple. We've lauded them so far because it's all been pretty positive stuff, but we're yet to truly experience the rough side...of player sales and ruthless decisions that got them to where they are today. Will be interesting to see what people make of things when that truly starts happening. Perhaps Joka will be the start, maybe followed by Doyley...who knows. Put simply, the Pozzos aren't going to be held to ransom by anyone and they won't act out of emotion. They will do what suits them best, as cold and heartless as that might seem.

Joker seems a perfect fit for Watford, and he deserves better than a one-year rolling contract. Given the money on offer in the Prem, and the wages the Pozzos will have to shell out, surely they could afford a three-year contract and to take a hit on two of them if for some reason Joker doesn't cut it in the Prem.

  30. From a clubs point of view, offering managers anything other than a rolling deal is madness.

What rough side? Their business interests are best served by us being as good as we can be. Yes there will be players sold when the price is right but that's hardly alien to Watford fans. I'm not going to cry about it. They're not asset strippers, they've put a lot in already to get us promoted and if putting Doyley out to pasture is considered a step too far then it's clear some people just don't get them at all.

I don't understand how deciding that a player who couldn't play in the Champ is now not worthy of a Premier contract can be seen as cold and heartless! Doyley does not merit a place in our squad - it's unfortunately that simple.

I thought a rolling contract meant you would always get a year's payoff as compensation should you get sacked? I remember seeing something about it during Pulis' time at Stoke because he went through his whole time there on a rolling contract I believe.

  35. Not necessarily. For example, Pardew had an 8 year deal at Newcastle, but they could sack him for a certain amount. Rolling deals would be the same.
