  5. I'm surprised this isn't still settled, and makes me think either;

Joka wants either pay, long term security, or manager status Gino isn't prepared to offer

Gino has another head coach in mind

  8. So in the event it isn't going to be joka, who is it going to be? Any high profile Italian coaches without a job at the moment?

It's probably more down to the fact that Joka has gone back to Spain for a while, had the contract presented to him before he left, and was told by Gino to mull it over while he was away.

He's always been one for not getting carried away and choosing his words carefully. The main thing is that staying is his first choice.

I agree with Levon, he's back home in Madrid and probably talking with his family etc. If the Pozzos wanted someone else Jokanovic would be well aware of this by now because we know Gino doesn't **** about! Really hope it gets sorted soon and Jokanovic can start preparing for pre-season.

Give them all a chance everyone on player side of club is on holiday FFS if we get into June and Slav hasnt signed then will be the time to be concerned .
He said he was happy here ,club wants him to stay ,that should be easy to work out.

At least if he doesn't sign we know it won't stop player recruitment. Even pre season is monitored from Italy so whilst this could be severely damaging if we were a traditional club it will be more of a inconvenience if he doesn't stay

I would be gutted if he didn't sign.

A lot better than our previous Pozzo managers so who is to say they'd pick an adequate replacement again.

If he doesn't sign, the press and Sky are going to have an absolute field day with us. 5 managers in a short time???

Jokanovic is a perfect fit for us, and the players love him.

Come on, sign the contract so we can move on with the summer.

Not that I believe anything the media reports over this, even if it was true, there's plenty of other managers out there the Pozzo's could get and of seeing we're in the Premiership there's hardly going to be a shortage on who we could get.

Hopefully this will be resolved before preseason.

We're not even looking for a manager BTW.

Team trainers are ten a penny on the continent and I'm very sure there's better than Joka available even if I do want him to stay.

He's probably on holiday at the minute. Who signs contracts while on holiday?

Well, he is kinda the manager as "head coach" even of it's not quite the old fashioned British role of managing absolutely everything. Agree that the Pozzos should have little trouble lining up a good quality replacement though if necessary.

He always prepares for what is in front of him, to be heppy. At the moment, that's his holiday.

Would be a shame if he goes but if he can get more money elsewhere good luck to him.

    Mark Warburton?

A deceny manager. But isn't Warburton leaving Brentford due to mutual disagreements over how the club is run. I don't know the exact ins and outs of their administration but I'm not sure he'd fit in with our model.

Yep. Not all British managers are yet ready or willing to embrace the head coach thing

Why have the club not got an option in the existing contract to keep him? After all the hassle and problems we've had this past year with managers, when finally appointing the man they wanted, and was best for the long term of this club (their words), it surprises me we then appoint a manager for only the short term.

If he says he wants to stay i'd expect him to sign the contract, even if it is later rather than sooner.

He'll be our head coach next year. I'm sure he is just looking to get more security in the contract to justify moving his family over, and he has earned the right to push for a generous deal.

The simple fact is that we want him, and he wants to be here. Both parties can do their dance in the negotiations, but when it gets to crunch time both sides will give way. I have no doubt about that.

  29. Keep the faith, still think he will sign, even the article admits Watford is his 'first choice', would be very surprised if he ultimately doesn't, they'll be loads of gossip, speculation and even a bit of posturing but like many have said, it's still early days, so we don't need to panic (yet). I'm pretty confident he ultimately will. ;)

It has to be what he is being offered, otherwise he would not be saying what he is!

So come on Pozzo's, make him an offer he can't refuse :cool1:

If it's a hardball negotiation tactic he's probably picked the wrong owners to try that with. I doubt it's that though. More likely to be that he wants to get his family on board and take a holiday after a hard 7 months. He's in a good position and will be guaranteed work in August with us or someone else - a rare luxury for a football head coach - so no doubt wants time to think things through.

  33. On the family argument, his children are now teenagers and his eldest daughter is 19, also worth bearing in mind a flight from Spain to the UK is only about 2 hours, surely a hell of a lot easier than a plane flight from Spain to Thailand. So like someone pointed out on the WO site, although of course a consideration, it will probably less of a consideration to Slav than many people may think.

  34. Cassetti's Beard

    Cassetti's Beard First Team

Course it's a huge consideration, can his wife and children speak English? Is his daughter at University? Is the teenage kid half way through GCSE's (or the equivalent)? What does his wife do for a career? Do they have extended family with them? Does he have a property, or is he renting, or is it provided by the club? Do they even want to move from Madrid to Watford and the surrounding areas?

Plenty of family related questions that could easily stand in the way.

As UEA said, he's probably on holiday having a well earned break - he's in a great position, and to be honest, I wouldn't blame him one bit holding back. He knows he's guaranteed a job with Watford so why not wait around and see what else is on offer.
