Mike Ashley has put them up for sale.

Normally I wouldn't care much, but it wasn't long ago that I read that the ultra rich owner of Kraft was interesting in buying a Premier League team.

Wouldn't be a bad purchase. A club with their stadium and fanbase has huge potential.

It was mentioned right at the start of the season (in Sept.). There's so far been only one name mentioned - "agent" of the buyers:

Seen it in the press that there is rumours of Vince McMahon. Sure it’s all nonsense but I really hope it’s not for comedy’s sake.

If Newcastle get a serious owner unlike that clown they currently have, I can see them upsetting the top 6 within a few years. Great stadium, great fans (sometimes delusional), and decent fan base worldwide. With the right owner, an owner that is actually willing to invest heavily, Newcastle will be back amongst the big boys in the future.

The only positive is that Ashley has done this many times before only to pull out. His lawyer has made it clear that they won't sell unless all their demands are met by the potential buyer. That tells me they will never sell because Ashley's demands were ridiculous the last few times he said he would sell, goodness knows what they are now being back in the Prem and all.

I don't know if ever they can become a genuine Top 6 club again unless they get the type of funding City have. Their location alone will see to that.

    Well Manchester isn't exactly heaven!

As Leicester proved it's not just about finance either, a sprinkling of magic dust can work wonders too .... But I do know that if that had been us Gino would have made a much better fist of keeping us competitive than their goldstruck owners did.

I see your point though, Newcastle is far Oop North infact almost Sunny Scotland, once up there your career is finished.

Manchester isn't heaven but the money on the one side, and reputation on the other is enough to attract top players and coaches. Merseyside is unquestionably on the wane.

Rumour amongst the Geordies is a set-in-stone figure of £350M - exactly double what Ashley's "spent" and he's been touting this figure/club for "years". There's also a lot of talk about Ashley's sale being forced by Rafa returning to Merseyside (Everton).

Newcastle-Upon-Tyne's metropolitan area's populati0on is quite a bit smaller than that of Enfield (and Wigan's etc.).

What I have taken from what his lawyer has said, reading between the lines, is that they are already likely talking to someone about buying the club - hence the Christmas deadline. That really isn’t a long time in which to complete the purchase of a large football club and all that comes with it, not withstanding the period of due-diligence. Sounds to me like they have an interested party who may be trying to implement certain conditions into the sale and Newcastle have gone public in a bid to force either a new approach from the interested party or to garner competition for the deal.

I imagine Ashley wants deal done by Christmas so he can give all his staff at Sports Direct a lovely big bonus .............hahahahahaha

Probably has someone lined up and imagine want done by Xmas so they can give new owners chance to make some signings in the Jan transfer window

Club has always had massive potential being the only club in the city but are serial underachievers

But then if you factored in County Durham (522K) and Northumberland (316K) that takes you over a million and the population of the wider North East region is said to be 2.6 million..shared between 3 larger sized clubs and one smaller club.

Looking at the footballing map.. http://www.myfootygrounds.co.uk/AreaMap.asp?view=ENGLAND you can see just how isolated the clubs in the North East are. No other clubs are quite so out on a limb apart from Carlisle and Norwich.

I'd love to see Newcastle gatecrash the top 6!

As others have said, they are a sleeping giant and have plenty of potential. They have just been lacking in resources and ambition.
