Next year, can you rotate the whole Watford team in during preseason then then switch them all out before week 1 starts? Foolproof plan.

You’d only have got two clean sheets in FPL though I think as he was subbed before 60 mins?

Newcastle is a long arduous energy zapping trip so for me man of the match goes to the pilot of the Pozzo jet.

Newcastle played very well in bits and awful in others, it was a strange game indeed ... They won't go down but they need to find their mojo soon, four is bad enough but five straight losses can be nothing but confidence busting.

We all used to spend a lot of time last season debating formations, but I’ve always believed it’s not so much the formation you play but how well or badly you play it. Under Mazzarri it became increasingly obvious that 3-5-2 / 3-4-3 wasn’t ideal for our squad of last season. However, the last couple of matches plus encouraging parts of a few other matches such as Chelsea have shown it can be effective if the players actually look comfortable with it. Femenia and Zeegelaar look ideal wing backs, while I agree with JB that Kabasele has been class of late. No coincidence it’s because he’s actually getting a solid run of starts.

In typical WFC Forums style much of the debate tonight seems to be about Gray missing so many clear-cut chances and how we should have won by more. Yes he was poor in front of goal and yes we should BUT come on lol! We’ve won 3-0 on the road against a side with a fairly decent defensive record this season. That’s 6 wins already. We’re establishing ourselves in the top ten. We’re playing some lovely flowing football. We look well coached. Every player seems to know his role. These are good days. That miserable Sunday on Merseyside already seems an age ago.

This side and this squad can still get better. Another solid defender and a prolific forward in January please. Nothing wrong in wanting to be even better. But equally nothing wrong also in enjoying the now, a winning moment, and heading out tonight with big smiles on our faces.

Agreed, for 20 minutes before our second they started to look okay - albeit we were really sloppy in that period.

Second half though I thought we managed the game really well. They do lack cutting edge and that could cost them.

I'll be most pleased for Gray when he has secured a move back to the Championship, where he belongs.

Next match when Gray squanders umpteen chances and gets subbed off, can the crowd all cup their ears at him please?

I have to say I am beginning to lose patience with Gray at this point.

Glad he got a goal and you have to be there to score them so fair play, but let's be honest even that was all about Richarlison's fantastic cross really.

The two chances he missed were absolutely pathetic attempts at finishing, so painfully lacking in the technique and composure that it genuinely looked like what you'd expect to see down the park in a pub league game from a grotesquely fat, half cut, 40 year old called "big Dave".

  15. Gray isn't the greatest finisher but I'll take his work rate and pace stretching games over Deeney standing around waving his arms

    57 seconds in.

Confidence. I would love it if he could get some of it and believe in himself. That celebration was aimed at himself in my opinion. Andre, just ******* believe.

Very satisfying and happy that Yedlin scored the og as I believe he was very dismissive towards us a season or so ago.
Shame for Gray that he failed to convert other chances but perhaps he will do so in the next two games.
Was he receiving any abuse to precipitate the gesture?
My chums at the game weren't aware of it,if so.
Happy weekend everyone and whilst I try to be fair minded to most, may I wish Southampton good luck tomorrow!

Lineker tweeted that he was sat with Shearer at St James Park today, I'm sure that having seen the whole match that we may get a good discussion on MoTD rather than base their opinions on 7 minutes of highlights.

I think everyone is getting a bit hysterical over Gray. He missed a few chances, chances that most of us could’ve scored, yet he’s a professional footballer, he’s not got this far without normally being able to put chances like that away relatively easily. At this stage it’s got to be about confidence, he simply can’t be that bad as he wouldn’t have made it this far. At some point I think it will click and these chances will start to go in.

A big away win, back to back victories, two clean sheets on the spin and a plus goal difference.

It says something when you win 3-0 away and are considered wasteful.

For purely selfish reasons, I really hope Watford can produce some of this away form at home, as that's where the majority of our fans see the games.

This is a special Watford side, possibly has the potential to be the best ever. We do have limitations, Gray is not a striker and we need someone more clinical than him, although he gets a lot of ticks in the box for endeavour and stretching the play.

Really pleased to see the progress of Kabasele. Britos is always going to be our weak link, and if we can get Prodl up to speed, then I think we'll be so much more reliable defensively.

Zeeglaar (who looked like a Zorro negative today) and Hughes are bringing something new to the side, and their inclusion has given the side that little boost exactly when we needed it.

Slowly, or actually quite quickly, you can see improvements every week, which is a very encouraging sign.

The only downside is you know the vultures will circle and will eventually take away our coach and star players.

But, what a transformation. The quality we've picked up this season has been outstanding. To think Chalobah, Pereyra, Carrillo are not even in the team.

Get signings in January right, and we could even finish in the top six......seriously.....we have the potential to be that good.

A decent backup keeper, and it looks as we have a couple of promising youngsters lined up already......and whatever is left in the budget should be spent on a centre half.

Wing backs, midfield and wingers are all excellent.......just that central defence, central striker and backup keeper. If we manage to get players in at the same level as the rest.....then....bloody hell......what a team Watford will be.

Can you imagine if Luther had played in a social media era. His confidence would have been shot to pieces and I doubt he'd have scored half of his goals.

Ironically Gray scored with his hardest chance.
He runs his socks off for the team and will come good.

I think Kabasele was always a brilliant signing, he’s a Belgium international for Christ’s sake. His initial problem was that he wasn’t first choice and only seemed to get a game if there was an injury, he almost seem to sulk while he was playing, perfectly highlighted when he literally lay down and let Bournemouth score that time. With a decent run of games he’s shown his class. Him and Prodl are a pretty formidable CB partnership, and now Holebas the defender who does everything brilliantly besides defending is out of the team, we actually have a pretty decent defence for the first time in god knows how long.

Couldn’t agree more, hence my post a few up from yours. At some point I think he’ll do a reverse Igahlo, in the way that he couldn’t stop scoring but then looked like he’d never even seen a football, Gray will suddenly start slotting these chances away.

I was told that he was carrying an injury when we signed him. Then he didn’t get into the team for ages and had to deal with that confidence sapping idiot Mazzari.
