I never had a View New Content, I just used Today's Posts. I expect the coloured envelopes to indicate whether there are unread posts, (isn't that why they are different colours?) not to have the threads disappear completely.

The coloured envelopes on the New Post screen refer to it being a 'Hot Topic' or not, i.e. over X amount of replies.

Not saying I agree with the way they replaced those old search functions with this new one by the way, just explaining it's not a bug/issue

They also indicate unread posts and whether I've contributed to the thread. Somewhere on here there is a key to them which I was loking at earlier but it's gone now. I just think New Posts should show ALL threads with new posts, not just ones it thinks I might want to read.

It's not, it's showing everything it determines is unread by what you've done... as above

The arcade tab is only visible on the forum page, not the home page, blogs etc. (though that could be so that people don't just come on here to play games)

One thing I have noticed is that there is no longer a split when you click new posts to show threads that have "not been updated since you last visited but still contain unread posts". As I don't read every thread I found this useful.

Would today's posts help with this? Anything in bold has posts which you haven't read.

Noted. I have a plugin that will add tabs to the navbar, but i need to finish all the plugins before I use it. I think I'll add links to a box on the front page.

Afanof, please can you try this for me. Go to the menu at the top, click on forum actions, then click on mark forums read. This will clear the settings for you and mark all forums as having no new posts. Some people are saying that on a new upgrade such as ours this can help with the issue you are having. I think it's a cookie thing. Let me know how you get on.

Yes, I think that would be useful! Thanks!

OK done that, so when I try New Posts it says there are no new posts. Now I have to wait for someone to post. Going to Gatwick in a minute, will check when I get back.

EDIT - just checking, my post doesn't appear as a new post.

I've been away about 3 hours and New Posts now throws up 3 threads. Is that really all there has been?

The problem is what you guys think is basic stuff that everyone understands, isn't to us lesser mortals, it's often double dutch to us.

Just imagine if you were trying to learn a new language e.g.

Azul, Verde, Rojo, Amarillo!!! Which is, Blue, green, red, yellow, in Spanish (I might have some of the spelling slightly wrong), but would all of you computer geeks known those very basic Spanish words, had I not told you in a very simple plain way? I doubt it!!! Well that is how we computer numpties need even basic computer terminology explained!!!

We have to progress, it's as simple as that. If we stay the same we will be dead in a few years. I've seen it many times with forums, you change or you die. The new software gives us so much more room to expand and offer users many more features over the coming months.

I appreciate what you are saying VoR, but even with the new setup we've tried to keep the basics exactly as they were. On the front page the forum button brings you to the main forum, (which can be bookmarked so you skip the front page), the forum sections are the same, the posts within the forum sections are the same, the "todays posts" button does the same thing, navigation around posts and threads is exactly the same. If you want to use the new software as the old software, it is very easy to do.

I can only suggest you give it time, because once you get used to it, (we've been testing it for a while so we have an advantage), you'll never want to go back to the old version.

So what are you trying to say, that its the same but different or the better but the same ? is it new and better and different or just the same with some new and different things to come that are going to make it better ?

If it is better and newer will the new things to come make it more better, or betterer, if you like, does this mean that it won't be the same and although it will be all new it will be all better ?

I have no real desire to know one way or the other to be honest, I just like the fact that its going to confuse VoR !!! :naughty:

Try using a cross X instead, might be easier.

I've just been looking through the site FAQ's, (top navigation bar, small link), and there is a nice explanation of new posts versus today's posts.

Another problem us computer numpties have is knowing where to look for all the, no doubt, wonderful information, is on here to help us

    AFANOF, FOR THE LAST TIME

your own posts won't class as new posts.

Look at the top of the page, underneath the red navigation bar. There is a link titled FAQ that explains everything.

  27. Defunct

Spot on. A new post is classed as one not read by yourself, so a post by yourself must have been read because you typed it out.

I read the FAQs yesterday when I was trying to figure it out. My conclusion is that I prefer to read the forum when not logged on. Once I log on, Today's Posts changes to New Posts and once I've read a thread it disappears so that in New Posts all I am left with are the threads I am not interested in and if I want to re-read or decide I later want to add something to a thread that I read earlier I have to hunt through the forums to find where it is.

For example I used to like to read Today's Posts on the old software, then go back and post something on one or two. With the new software once I've read a thread on New Posts it disappears and I have to look through the forums to find it, if I can remember what it was. Maybe I'm the only person who used the forum in this way but it was easy and worked for me and I find this clunky. I expect everyone has a different way of doing things and I'll just have to adapt my method to the new software.

Try this, once logged on click on Quick Links, (just under the red navbar), and there you should find "today's posts". That's how I always browse.

Admin, is it worth replacing "New Posts" with the "Todays Posts" links, should be an easy fix.

Not sure if you missed my original post on that or not

  32. afanof

    afanof First Team

    No

Yes! This is what I wanted, thank you. This works. This is the way I will use the forum too. It took a long time to get there and it's a shame you have to go through Quick Link to get to Today's Posts as it's an extra click and therefore not so quick but that makes using the forum much smoother.

Give us time and we'll get it added to the same line as a direct link.

Prentice, I can see now that you came to the same solution yesterday but your link just said no matches try different terms and there was no Quick Link button on the bar of that page so i didn't get there. Thanks for the help.

I thought what I was linking is the Todays Posts function
