He's clearly aware of the Premier league, as everyone watches it. You keep saying this is a huge gamble, which makes me think you believe this is a bad choice?

But for me, the huge gamble would have been to keep Silva. He had his chance and messed it up.

What do you believe the club should have done? Kept Silva, or sacked him and brought in a manager like Lambert? The best Stoke could find was Lambert. Now I would have been seriously depressed if Watford had gone down that route.

I don't think it's the gamble a lot of people seem to think it is. It won't have been a snap decision. Gino has probably been weighing up targets since November. I'd be amazed if he hasn't.

I think he looks the right man for the job at hand. Whether he's here next season, depends on what Gino feels we need come the summer, but his strengths definitely suit the situation we find ourselves in now.

I saw that too. It seemed like she didn't agree with what the club had done and was deliberately trying to lead Luther down the line so he would have a go at the club. It didn't work, so they phoned Richard Lee, and she was even more forceful with him and tried to steer him in a direction which would be detrimental to the club.

Neither bite on that though, and she seemed a bit perplexed and deflated that they both seemed to back the club.

I am sure you are right. I think they probably have a shortlist of targets for Head Coach that they are always adding to. They will have followed his good results in Spain and considered his methods.

We have to have enough faith in GP (& personally speaking I think he certainly deserves that) that he knows this guy can come in do what's needed.

After all the Pozzo family will stand to lose £100+ million in revenue if we go down, fans like us just huff & puff because because of the stark reality of watching games against Preston & Bolton would hurt like hell.

Absolutely, I want pictures of common tables with the odd Italian designer chair in the background. Serious analysis of building cladding seen through a window in the background.

Have the Chalobah summer transfer squad been scrambled, if not then they need to step to it.

Again I say to you that we are debating two separate issues. You keep muddling the two. Two things happened today. We sacked Silva. Then we replaced him. I have never said we shouldn’t have sacked Silva. I have questioned the wisdom of replacing him with a novice to England and our league. With 14 games left to keep us up. As I have said today, I suspect many people are so happy to see Silva go, they naturally assume any replacement must be the bees knees and a wonderful appointment. Any replacement must be better than Silva. And they could be right. Gracia could hit the ground running, get us some wins and keep us up. Equally I think it’s fair to consider the alternative, namely that he will take time to acclamatise and by then it will be too late. Expressing that opinion shouldn’t be seen as saying we should have kept Silva and done nothing. They are two separate issues.

I fear Gracia could turn out to be a good appointment but at the wrong time. By that I mean he has potential to succeed here as he clearly has attributes, but not long enough to do so this season.

I don’t see how anybody can fail not to think it’s a big gamble too. 14 games left to save us. A new coach whose never played or coached in England. Whose CV is average. Who failed in his last job, which was taking him out of the comfort zone of his native country. It’s a huge gamble at this time of the season. It may well be inspirational. I hope so. Pozzo hasn’t got too much wrong yet. But....

I’m not judging though. I’m not saying this or that about him. I’m just saying it’s a big gamble.

We've just got to hope that if players had stopped playing for Silva then anyone new coming in has them playing with fresh optimism and encouragement, plus a better formation.

If anything merely organising the defence marginally better will stop a few goals and we have plenty of pace to play a more counter attacking style rather than a seeming gung ho approach of late.

    Sacking Silva was definitely right.
The replacement ? Time will tell but the Pozzos will have thought about it over quite a time and presumably did not want some "has been" interim manager but have gone for someone they presumably value.

I think it's very different working in England compared to working in Russia. The fact he didn't do well in that country shouldn't really be used against him in England.

Whether he'll do well long term is up for debate, but there is always an uplift when a new coach comes in. The stats back that up, and basically for this season, this is all we need. A small uplift in form, which will see us survive.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression you think this guy will have no positive impact, or at least that's a fear for you? Well the evidence doesn't support that.

As I mentioned, a new coach has a positive impact on a team. Are Watford that hopeless that nothing can improve them? No......of course not. So a new coach will almost certainly have a positive impact, albeit maybe for a short time.

His task is to win 4 games from the 14 remaining. For a new manager, that should not be a tall order. I'll keep saying it, the bigger risk would be to do nothing.

Depends if vacancies coincided. He got the big job in Russia after a good 2015/16, but the Pozzos were after a bigger fish in Mazzari.

  32. The Times article is absolutely damning. If true, any benefit of the doubt for Silva is entirely unwarranted. Espèce de connard, they would say in France.

    Welcome to Watford Javi.

    Congratulations on your appointment.

I wish you all success in firstly keeping our beloved club where all of us on this forum believe it now belongs.

And then for hopefully kicking on, and getting us out of our recent cycle of decent starts under new coaches only to be followed by a miserable run and parting of the ways.

We’ve taken a big gamble on you, but equally I appreciate you’ve taken one on coming to us. A club with potential but also one where nothing stands still for long. Where flux and change are more common occurrences than calm and stability.

Let’s hope for a marriage made in heaven, and I’m looking forward to watching your first match in charge on Saturday. In a way it’s more like a pre-season friendly for you, in the sense that you can experiment and try things and get to know your squad before a vital PL relegation match at Stoke soon after.

    Good Luck.
