Not official yet, but apparently he's agreed a 2 year deal and this will be announced in the next 24 hours.

I'll post a link as soon as I see one.

Surname was meant to be Gracia.

A new golden era starts here!

Welcome aboard, Mr Gracia. Even with the current injuries, you've got some of the most creative and skilful players in the club's history at your disposal. It doesn't require a football genius to see what Silva did to completely waste the potential going forward.

A few defensive tweaks from someone reasonably tactically savvy, and we should be comfortable in mid table. Then next year, there's no reason why we shouldn't be looking further up.

Dont know much about him, but from a very quick look on google he looks a particularly underwhelming appointment

I'm only trying to inform the forum of what I hear. There's tonnes of news on this in Spain. I've not seen the 2-year deal posted anywhere, if it's on Adam's twitter feed, I've certainly not seen it.

I'm not ITK but I do have ears amazingly. Only trying to get the info out there so people know what's being said in Spain.

Yeah, not so sure about this unless your counting players that are injured or just plain knackered

4-4-2 is his preferred formation . He was pretty good in his time at Malaga and is like Silva fluent in English, a good trainer and like most modern coaches micromanages the small details at training. He is a very good defensive coach at stifling the opposition and htting on the break. I am concerned about his tactical inflexibility from his time at Kazan Kazan turned into a nightmare. Spent a lot of money and the club is now in debt. Stoke have already signed Bauer the fullback he Gracia brought to Kazan.

Nonetheless highly regarded in Europe and a young coach as well. Hope he is more flexible here and adapts quickly. He will need to hit the ground running. Welcome to Watford Javi. If he can do what he did with Malaga brilliant.

Every Silva press conference was gibberish. No where near fluent but owed credit for the effort.

Great, another random overseas coach who has no idea about the Premier League.

I’m glad Marco has gone but not an exciting replacement.

So where alot of Joka's press conferences. Not being fluent in English was only ever an issue with Wally it seems

A totally bewildering and underwhelming appointment. Cheap and available, but with a CV that does little to suggest he deserves a crack in this league with us. We are in a relegation battle and games are running out. We do not have the luxury of time to allow a novice to this country and this league to find their feet. Any new appointee has to hit the ground running. Joka and Silva both knew English football and had won titles elsewhere. QSF was a serial winner, and Mazzarri had an impressive CV. All hit the ground running. Today we’ve gone back to our traditions of totally bizarre left field appointments, gambling when we did not need to gamble as much. This guy may have potential, but his appointment smacks of huge risk and I fear today may be the day our luck with our revolving door policy finally runs out. Time for me to hand over my status as one of the forum’s more positive and cheery posters to somebody else now.

Lol I do wish him well though and will be firmly behind him on Saturday and for the rest of the campaign. I just fear it’s a disaster waiting to happen, and I reckon many other supporters are secretly fearing this too inside.

Let's face it the guy has only one task - to stabilise us and avoid relegation. Frankly although our performances say otherwise I do not think we are a bottom 3 team. Making the change BEFORE we get there means we only have to match the others around us to stay mid table. Silva did not look like he was going to manage that but most any newcomer ought to. If he does well he may last the summer:)

Wonderful stuff, the professionally "underwhelmed" are off and running already.

Would it be possible to simply change the name of the thread to "Criticisms of Gracia" and re-open it, to save someone creating another one in a few weeks time, when we don't beat Chelsea at home?

Defensive coach bought in so we can stop the rot and give us a base to build from.

We’ve basically appointed somebody who failed in his most recent job overseas because he couldn’t adapt to his new surroundings. The article speaks of tactical stubbornness. Unable to get used to the new overseas league he joined. Yet we’ve gambled our PL future on him not repeating those mistakes and being able to hit the ground running here. Total madness.

4-4-2... Defensively competent... We're going to be fine now, whereas Silva was taking us back to the Championship.

Cheer up mate. He'll be decent, I'm certain of it.

We HAD to do something. It was clear we couldn't go on as we were, or else we would have run the severe risk of going down. There was a big divide between the board and manager. All trust was lost after the Everton saga. The board carried on hoping that he'd be able to see out the season, but it became ever more likely that wouldn't be possible.

All the signs were there. No commitment to signing Carrillo, pulled out of the Slimani deal, lack of any transfer activity, the body langue between Silva and Giraldi after the Southampton match. Contradictions between the hierarchy and Silva in press conferences. It was clear is was going only one way, the only question was when.

Sacking Silva now, must have meant the tipping point of no return had been met. We don't know what conversations have taken place, but I doubt Silva is a shrinking violet in these discussions. He made too many critical comments, even early on. Those comments made over Amarabat, and the last week of the transfer window, that wouldn't have sat well with Gino at all.

So today is the day when it all came to a head. Gracia is someone the owners will know all about. He was considered last summer, but they felt Silva was a better bet as he had already managed in the Premier league.

I understand your concerns over his knowledge of English football, and it's a valid one, but he is a good coach. We only need that "new manager bounce" and that will be enough to see our safety.

Is he someone that will take us to the next level? Not sure, but look at his record at Malaga. It was very good. He can speak English well, so there's none of the same problems we had with Wally. He doesn't have a big ego and he's someone that can use what he's got and gets the best out of them.

He ticks a lot of boxes and I feel a lot more confident of staying up now, than I was last night.

In fairness you've said that about every manager we appointed under the Pozzo's except for Wally.

Tactical stubbornness? Failure to adapt? Sounds like our last couple of managers

His last three seasons have been spent guiding typically mid-table standard top flight teams (Malaga and Kazan) to mid-table top flight finishes (9th, 8th, 9th). If he can also guide us to 9th then there really can't be many complaints...
