Nordin Amrabat

I'd largely put it down to having a cheeseburger'd up Deeney and Odious Ighalo to aim for. I clearly remember him putting balls into the box which were on a plate for a good striker on many occasions. Woeful end product is a little harsh I think, although there are obviously better (Holebas crosses a ball brilliantly). Amrabat can really help to stretch a game though too, and for the first half of the season he was the only outlet the other players looked for offensively.

Always seems to get pulled up for having a little shirt pull at a defender when trying to get past him.

Confirmation bias comment of the week, from some of the SEJ stand fans below me:

"Oh f*** off Amrabat, look at the player who's passing to you for once" - when Amrabat made a good run and Cleverly made an awful pass straight out of play, about five metres behind the player.

I'm not trying to criticise Cleverley, who immediately apologised. I've just never heard so much hate from fans for a player who has played well this season. They'd be politer about a man who shagged their wife.

Get me back in the Rookery ASAP.

An 'exceptional player' would make things happen regardless of the opponent or the form of his teammates. There's no way he falls into that category. He doesn't score and he very rarely assists, which for an attacker has to be the way to judge him.

Positive runs and stretching the game are important attributes but suited much more to being an impact player from the bench.

My god he was awful yesterday, just seemed to get in the way most of the time. The 3 up front all need to add something to the attack. Deeney is a leader and gets goals, Okaka is a menace, Niang oozes quality, Success although inconsistent has pace, power and plenty of room for improvement. I like Nordin but if we are to improve next season then I don't think he does enough to warrant a starting place. We could easily bring back Berghuis who we know can chip in with goals and assists and provides delivery from wide areas that Amrabat just doesn't produce often enough.

We have a better option, he's currently playing on loan in Holland

He has average pace and zero guile, either in terms of tricking his way past a defender or in terms of creative balls for strikers to attack. His maim gambit for getting past defenders is to barge through, grabbing shirts and pushing as he goes, for which he is frequently penalised.

He also is terrible off the ball as he can't read the game. He never moves for the ball and, similar to deeney, seems to like to stand perfectly marked and receive the ball to chest, or feet.

Having said that he is exceptional are shielding the ball and almost always seems to bring the ball away when he looks favourite to lose it. With no end product, however, and little overall contribution to team performance, his only value as I see it is as an outlet when we are winning a day winding down the clock, though his decision making makes him something of a liability in this regard too.

I can't think of a single standout moment from him this season. Any pointers?

Before his injury I thought he was our best forward player and although he has no assists I do feel a big part of that is our lack of movement up front. Not looked so good since coming back but I really like him as a player. I would like Berghuis to be given a chance though

For me he offers very little more than Anya did.

Neither defended particularly well, both can beat a player and neither had a end product.

Personally I think he adds to our strength but not by as much as it should do but that's not all down to him. Just as he needs to work on his decision making and timing, our other players need to work on their runs and availability ... He's strong and can retain the ball but lacks pace, Anya has pace and precious little else but he could time a pass as in ' now here come Watford, Forestieri, here's Hogg etc etc'.

On current form, maybe not an automatic first choice, but I think he is still a worthwhile player to have in the squad.

Put Amrabat in the Anya role in that move, he'd bring the ball down, back into the nearest defender, pull their shirt and give away a free kick.

Get rid in the summer. Out of his depth in this league and thinks he's better than he is.

Getting far to much stick, there are other players in our squad who deserve just as much, if not more stick than him IMO!!!

    Agreed.

See him as a squad player but not a starter as his delivery and decision making is not great.

    He's no wing back either.

I called him out as rubbish in October and got lambasted for it on here. I'd have loved to have been wrong but at the same time it's gratifying to see others now seeing what I saw back then.

I admit he has not been great since he came back from injury, but before that he was being touted by many on here as a possible POTS! So please stop all this hate and bile he is now getting as he does not deserve it, and I would not be surprised if he returns to his better form next season if he is still with us.

    Oh don't worry, he's still a POS.

His performances haven't really changed. His last few games are typical of what he was doing before Christmas. It's just the outlook on here has changed massively for the negative and people are now seeing him for what he is rather what they optimisically wanted him to be.

Re watch the Chelsea game Amrabat gave away possession far too much ,he is willing gives effort but his end product is poor . I think he is a championship quality player , if we can get better than he should go as part of the necessary major surgery this summer.

I like the effort he puts in but his end product is usually not good enough. We have too many players who only deliver good performances a few times a season, some need to go.

  29. I disagree entirely.

  30. Since he came back, this is about 70% of his game He is still doing some good, but is a million miles from his first half of the season form. He's not trying to get past players in the same way; don't know if it is confidence or instruction, but would like to see him in August before a decision is made, because he was one of the most effective wingers in thd league up until his injury. In the recent Liverpool game they were all over him when he got ghe ball, presumably because they saw he was a threat in the 6-1 game. That says more about him than a thick pundit or a fan that just wants slmeone to blame.

    Agreed.
I'd concentrate on getting shot of the people not putting the effort in and those causing trouble before we get shot of people that are at least looking like they want to play for us.

I pretty much see him as a Doyley mk II. although I hope it doesn't take him as long to score.

  32. You weren't on your own earlier in the season as I remember. Lots of people seemed to be swayed by a pundit saying he had no end product, which was a ridiculous statement during the game he made it in. Next pundit picked up on the subject, but gave up quickly in favour of the 'Iggy and Troy' are clueless theory for why there was an empty box or poorly positioned/uninterested players after Bats had battled his way past 3 players.

Sorry. I believe you were wrong about him then. We'll see if all of you are wrong about him now. No conclusions yet.

I like Amrabat - what he lacks in talent he makes up for in effort and attitude. When he's having a bad game (admittedly a lot lately, but so to have others) he never hides and always wants the ball. If the general consensus is that a lot of players will be coming in, we'll need some to remain for a bit of continuity. Therefore, maybe under a new coach and with other players around him he may well prosper. If he's still struggling by January, then the club can look to move him on. But on the other hand, maybe we'll look back and laugh at how we were debating whether or not to get rid of one of our best players. Let's hope that's the case.
