If Silva is successful, Doucs will be at Goodison in Jan & Old Trafford by Aug. Like snakes & ladders.
Given the way 50%+ of their supporter-base were treating him at the end, I’d be sceptical whether he’d really care about their reaction. The ones educated enough would applaud him and realise how big the Man Utd job is. Much like the better Chelsea fans did with Lampard when he cane back with City. I can understand a player not joining his clubs hated rivals. But anything else goes for me really. I see your side of the argument - but I think yo say there would be ‘no way’ or ‘no chance’ is not true. Doesn’t matter anyway - as it seems to be fairly largely speculated that its Laurent Blanc until May and then Pochettino or Blanc continues.
Thats fine - we are both guessing. As I say I don't think there's the tiniest chance that he would want to go to Man U and compete against Arsenal after 20 odd years at Arsenal. It would damage his Arsenal legacy and I think he cares about that. Even those Arsenal fans who wanted him out, love him now he's gone. But then again I thought Cardiff would turn us over in the wind and rain on saturday !
What's he done to deserve that? A long way from E Bucks. Friday nights in Amersham v different from ooop there (unless @HH24 has recent info).
Blimey if this the short term option they might as well give it to Carrick! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46607200
Let's not forget that Harry Redknapp has won more trophies in 2018 than Jose. Respect! Respect! Respect! He could be the man who takes them back to glory!
Talking about things going up in smoke, I see there is a product recall for our branded oven gloves. Unless they are made from asbestos, what can go wrong with oven gloves?
BFS a possibility? Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ho hum Ridiculous, someone has hacked the sky sports twitter account surely
Because he's not a coach...he just has a system and every team he's been at, he's had the biggest cheque book in that respective league. So all he does is buy the finished article to fit within that system.
Wow. How can you not be a coach when you make players play a system? Isn't that the very definition of coaching? He's made Otamendi a solid defender which he looked far from, Fabian Delph a title-winning left back, Raheem Sterling a goal scorer and creator, improved Stones, improved Kyle Walker etc. Zabaleta, Kolarov, Clichy were all on the way out 32+ and needed replacing - you can't blame him for spending there. I'd say the only totally unnecessary transfer was Mahrez. Out of the top ten Premier League transfers, there are two Man City players - Mahrez & Laporte. United spent more on Pogba & Lukaku plus have Di Maria on that list. Chelsea has Kepa & Morata. Liverpool has Alisson & Van Dijk. Heck Mourinho even spent more on Fred than spent on Bernado Silva. Is it Pep's fault his transfers don't tend to turn out awful like others? I find it laughable that Klopp is lauded as a good coach yet bought Alisson, Van Dijk, Keita, Fabinho & Salah. Whereas Pep is a "fraud" he's an excellent coach if not the best in the world. As for Zidane, I'd love to learn how you fraud three Champions League's in a row, of course, there was luck but you can't mock that achievement, better sides have failed to even defend it.
Wow You have a different opinion to me, deal with it. Would Pep or Zidane be as effective with a Championship or lower half Premier League budget? No, they need the big bucks. I don't think you understand the difference between having a system and buying the best players to fit into that system and coaching players into a system. Put him in at West Brom, see how successful he is.
Obviously they wouldn’t win the league with a championship or lower PL team, no. But I’d hazard a guess they’d do very well with any side they managed. Look at Biesla at Leeds, a good well renowned coach and surprise surprise he’s doing well with a team that has been in the doldrums for years. What you’re saying is a bit like having a go at somebody for inventing something simple, saying that you could have done it yourself, well you didn’t, did you? Yes they’ve got a system, but you need that system in the first place. They then know exactly what player they need in every position to execute that system. You make that sound simple, when in reality it anything but. If it’s that simple what is Mourinho's system and why have so many of his signings failed?
That's the difference between a coach and a manager for me. Pep is a manager, not a coach. Coaches get the best out of and improve their players. Managers buy and field the best players they can.
Well guess they wanted an old favourite to take over in the short term.. And Steve Bruce /Mark Hughes probably didn't want to take over so soon after losing their own jobs .
But that's the point with Mourinho, he needs to spend to win, again he's had some of the biggest budgets at the clubs he's been at. Pogba plays sensationally for France and Juve yet is competely inept at Manure because Mourinho doesn't coach him because he doesn't fit into his system. As for the invention analogy, did he invent it himself? He took his system from Johann Cruyff and tweaked it to retain possession ad nauseam. Bielsa is a great coach, Pocchettino is a great coach...but the underlying fact at Man City have spent an average of £742m over the last 5 seasons...so they've bought the Premier League. If Pep is so fantastic, why has he not won the Champions League in 7 years? As for Zidane, when he was coaching Real Madrid Castilla, he had a pretty average record. He takes on the 1st team with a squad of world class players and wins trophies - I'm not convinced it was down to him alone. Then again, this is just my opinion and make no apologies if it offends anyone.
I can see both sides of the argument. There are elite coaches or managers who can weld very good players into a very good team - this is a very difficult group to break into, and it helps if like Pep you're able to join the richest club in whatever league you're competing in. These guys may well fail if their job is to get the best from more limited players - GT's skill
Without getting boring about it, it does make you thankful that we have Pozzo in charge. A proper, tough businessman who understands the long term but makes it happen in the short term. Woodward at Man U comes across as a nobody who happened to be in the right place. He cut a sponsorship deal, caught the eye of the owner (whose only interest is financial) & was overpromoted 5 mins later. Not having an alternative in place when sacking JM is lamentable management. OGS wouldn't get on Gino's short list.
My mate Len managed Gadeside Rangers once, it's about the same level as the Norwegian league, they should have given him a call.
Every single report on Woodward that I’ve read is that he’s astounding at commercial deals. Man Utd are so profitable mainly because his work. The issue is that Kenyon and Gill before him were also football men and had Ferguson. Woodward isn’t a football man but has tried to be one. United need to modernise and have a DoF inbetween the Manager and the Chief Exec.
