I don't do twitter but I'm sure you're right. But don't confuse twitter with Britain

Sure, but the problem is those people who are like that share a very popular nationalist view right now and I rarely see anyone of that ilk slapping it down.

It is always sad when patriotism turns into xenophobia but it is equally sad when patriots are instantly dismissed as nationalistic xenophobes.
I've just read that back and I'm not sure that it makes sense, but hopefully you get what I'm driving at!

  4. Patriots aren't just the ones who loudly trumpet patriotism. In fact in the case of you know what, those who the 'patriots' condemned as 'traitors' can now be demonstrably seen to have the country's best interests at heart, while those 'patriots' have wittingly or unwittingly ****ed the country back 50 years.

In fact, why would you need to trumpet your 'patriotism' at all? You can be proud of, or back your country, in everyday life without making it your identity. Those who do make it their identity can be roughly divided into fools (NF, UKIP, Millwall) and scoundrels (Gove, Johnson, Fabricant, Bridgen, Jenkyn, Jenkins etc) although obviously given the list above the two factions are not mutually exclusive.

Some might say they had their own interests at heart and didn't give a damn about the FACT that the influx of cheap labour drove down blue collar workers pay, put pressure on social housing stock and the public services that the working class rely on. When the working class complained about their 'lot' they were dismissed as 'racists' - most shamefully of all by the Labour Party! This is why Brexit happened and why the Tories romped the last election but the left still doesn't get it.

Yes it is. It's basic economics: the bigger the labour pool the cheaper the labour.
