Hopefully. Even if so far we haven't brought in what we really need (two strikers and a centre back), at least we are getting rid of some of the crap that we really don't!

For most of his time here he wasn't actually that bad a player, he had some brilliant games but also unfortunately some very poor games too.

Right time for him to go though.

According to Giulia Stronati, an Italian sports journalist, Britos was offered to both Sampdoria and Torino but neither are interested at the moment.

Torino still interested in Roberto Pereyra though.

I struggle to see the logic behind the way we hand out contracts. They must have renewed Britos' contract knowing we had no use for him. So do we do it just so we can potentially make money out of a year long loan?

At best we'll have to subsidize the wages of somebody we could have released. It makes very little sense

Agree, too many supporters don't appreciate that money is made in the loan market, Gino is a high class trader in footballers, always hopefully making sure he has enough in reserve to maintain his place in the P.L. and making progress on the football front and business front every year!

Look how many players we have on our books which we never see play, that is an example of his strategy

Or maybe Sampdoria/Torino pay a fee for Britos. Giving him a new contract, or Holebas, meant we had cover in defense in case we didn't get who we wanted and if we did would possibly allow us to get a fee for him. It has worked for a long time at Udinese and seems to be working here as well. All of these players we have on our books are bought to see if we can find a Richarlison or a Sanchez and those that don't work out we loan out to cover the cost and possibly make money allowing us to buy other players.

Maybe someone will pay a fee. Let’s say 40% someone covers wages and pays a small loan fee. 30% someone loans him and just pays his wages. 30% nobody is interested and he is an unregistered player. That scenario would likely be negative expected return.

If we know he’s past it and won’t be in the squad I would have just let his contract expire.

I get how it works. In Britos' case however, there is nobody out there mental enough to pay us money + wages of a 33 year old well past his prime.

Even if keeping him was covering our bases, it paints a grim picture of how they expected this transfer window to play out.

To be fair to him he's so slow these days it's probably going to take a while for him to get there. In Okakas case we need to locate him first so we can sell.

In order for the model to yield a profit, you're needing a customer who's stupid or desperate enough to pay a fee for a player whose equivalent can be sourced for free from any number of other clubs.

Unless all clubs tie up their 32 year old, injury and suspension prone, one good game in 10 centre backs on long contracts, why is someone going to pay a fee for ours when the others are all just being released.

Crap defenders are not such a prime commodity

The "flexibility" of renting vs the risk and commitment of purchasing ? For "Britos" read "photocopier".

A bit more chat about Mr. Britos following the Sampdoria game. Our visitors, due to an injury to their own Jacopo Sala & an already existing knock to Vasco Regini, are a bit light in the defensive areas and talks between the two clubs supposedly happened after Saturdays friendly. A fee of €3.5m is the apparent asking price which, if I'm reading it correctly, the last line of translation suggests that may be too much - or any price is worth paying due to their lack of defenders, I'm not sure!

    https://www.primocanale.it/notizie/...er-la-difesa-spunta-l-idea-britos-200327.html

Sampdoria, after Regini also Sala ko: for the defense check the Britos idea

When Giampaolo saw Jacopo Sala get out early, three minutes after the final whistle for the friendly match against Watford, a blow came to him. The right-back had to leave the field due to a distortive trauma to his right knee. In these hours the 26 year old is undergoing the exams that will determine the extent of the injury. On 22 July, during the first seasonal test against Feralpi Salò another heavy tile in defense, deputy captain Blucerchiato Vasco Regini, had remedied the rupture of the front crusader. An injury that will keep him away from the fields for several months.

And so Mr. Giampaolo is having to deal with a defense that loses two important pawns in the blucerchia pink. Both Regini and Sala did not start on the tactical chessboard of Giulianova's technician. But they certainly represented the first alternatives to rely on during the long season now coming. So Osti and Sabatini immediately got to work looking for good names to give to the coach. The gaze has long been directed towards Naples. Lorenzo Tonelli and Vlad Chiriches are passable tracks. Above all, the first is an object of Giampaolo's desire that he had at the time of Empoli. In this case to beat there is also competition from other Serie A clubs and the price could go up too much for the coffers.

For three years under the Vesuvio there is also the Romanian Chiriches, 28 years old and little experience in the top flight, 30 appearances in 3 seasons mostly remnants of the match. The idea does not convince at all. So from the block notes of the leadership blucerchiata black and white has sprung up another name: the Uruguayan Miguel Britos, former Bologna and Naples. Central defender that adapts to play on the wings as needed. Today the 33 year old is a member of the Watford fresh opponent. Someone says that at the end of the game the management of the two clubs have started to exchange a chat. Bringing back the Uruguayan to Italy, at home Samp is more than an idea. His card is worth 3 million and a half euros. Who knows that the need does not really bring Ferrero to pay the price.

'Rupture of the front crusader' does sound particularly nasty. Why does reading these articles in English suddenly make me think that my Italian is not that bad? The poor deluded souls also seem to think Britos is a winger. I've seen him take out a winger I.e. Knockhart but not actually play in that position.

The Sampdoria player who suffered an injury on Saturday, Jacopo Sala, has not damaged his knee ligaments and the injury is not thought to be bad.

It looks like Britos isn't needed by them. Or us. Or anyone.

    http://www.primocanale.it/notizie/s...ala-domani-la-ripresa-a-bogliasco-200335.html

    Sampdoria, relief for Sala.

    ...blah blah blah...

Good news for Jacopo Sala came out battered by the challenge with Watford.
His right knee suffered a simple distortion without involvement of the ligaments.

Do not worry even Quagliarella came out Saturday for an annoyance all'adduttore.

  31. A friend of mine used to run a chalet in Verbier. The Ashleys of Sports Direct/Newcastle infamy used to go every year. The chefs had to prepare everything for all of them every night (chicken, beef, fish, pork, lamb) because they didn't like choosing in advance. 90% was thrown away. However what took the biscuit was that they had to have cauliflower cheese every night for one of the kids, who didn't like cauliflower, but only liked cheese sauce if cauliflower had been cooked in it.
