You’ve got a personal issue with him if Deeney is the only player you have ever disliked!

That is fine - I probably wouldn’t go our for a drink with him but I’d respect him for the 120 plus goals he has scored for us over the years.

They will see him almost everyday even during this good run.

I doubt he just turned up yesterday out of the club after months away.

What worried me and also confused me a lot about yesterday’s game was us seemingly happy to sit on 1-0 and expect that to be enough. Yes, Warnock set up well against us but we still had a decent 5/10 minute spell where we troubled them and nearly scored a couple of times. Despite Warnocks tactics, we clearly had another gear there if we really wanted to use it, but we didn’t.

We’ve just come off the back of a two week break with only 5 games left before the season ends, surely being 1-0 up in one of our more winnable games it would be better to go all out to kill it off? You know a bird in the hand and all that? Surely killing Boro off at 1-0 was a better guarantee of 3 points than any of our games yet to come?

With so few games left I just don’t get the logic of holding back and being confident 1-0 would be enough, when our defensive record, as good as it is, still means we’ll still let a goal in at least every other game, so 50% of the time doing so would lead to dropped points?

I suppose what I’m saying is our defensive record is good enough that at 2-0 it would’ve been impossible for us to lose that game, but at 1-0 there was a 50% chance we would draw it given we won the last game 1-0 as well. Just seems like a daft attitude given the circumstances.

It's fine margins and when it doesn't come off it's always seen as a bad tactic. Of course we'd all have wanted that killer second goal, and nearly got it through a good move finished by a Pedro shot just inches wide. Boro scored with their only on target shot of the match. The trick is to score the first goal, and Watford have been very good at this throughout the season.

That doesn't mean to say I think we're playing a good game right now. Far from it. The way we've played over the past couple of matches has been a gamble. The margins are too fine and we WILL drop points if we don't play better than we've performed over the past two games.

It's a two horse race now. Between us and Brentford. If Brentford win both their games in hand then I'll be worried. That would bring them within 4 points of us and we still have to play them. Yes, we have the comfort of it being in our own hands, but it's inevitable we'll drop points between now and the final game.

I'm not convinced Watford have the mental steel to get the job done without some help from other sides. That's why I'm hoping that Brentford drop points in their next two games. If they do this, then we'll be in command of the situation, but if they go on a good run of form I think they could well beat us to second place.

    I tend to agree.

Bachman said before the game that "we must be patient" and this seems to have been interpreted as "take your time, plod along, 'something' will happen". What seems to be missing since the international break is energy and drive. Maybe understandable but it could be that now we are in front and the hunted so to speak, that a too cautious mind set has crept in?

I agree it’s fine margins, I just find it frustrating that we didn’t have that killer instinct when winning 1-0, that would’ve been a far more efficient way to have approached things, put the 3 points to bed in a game you’re already winning. Scoring another goal would’ve guaranteed us another 2 points, 2 points we now have to potentially find elsewhere now, in likely harder circumstances. We hadn’t conceded in our last 3 games, so holding onto a 1-0 lead was always going to fail sooner rather than later.

Hopefully this was the kick up the arse the players needed after the international break. Can't keep coasting in second gear.

I've disliked a few other players but not many. As I said its not personal with Troy, it's the impact he is having on the club. There's plenty of moronic, thuggish, toxic men in the UK. My issue with Troy is what he's doing to WFC. I'd like us to get promoted and I view Troy as an impediment to that.

I hope that on the long journey back from Middlesbrough that they had another heart-to-heart chat like they did after Coventry. They know it's there for the taking and theirs to lose if they don't step up.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think part of the covid restrictions are that injured/rehabbing players are not part of the 1st team bubble. Boro was the 1st time Troy travelled with the squad to an away game since the glorious zenith of Deeneyball away to Coventry. Imagine how much harder it is to prepare for an away game with that idiot mouthing off all the time.

Well probably only like Ben Foster and his Go Pro who seemed to travel when injured but you might be right to say injured players aren’t supposed to travel - maybe tell the people complaining he was on Talksport and not at Cardiff that.

I am sure the others have played with such players like that before if you think Deeney does that.

We did draw 1-1 - it’s not like we lost 5-0 and were totally outplayed and would have won if Pedro could finish or Sema not given away a silly free kick.

Sometimes you just need to congratulate the opposition. Defensively Boro were very good and nullified us all over the pitch. It's easy to get frustrated as a player when things are not going your way. Nates challenge to win the ball on Morsey clarified this to me. It was one of those games I suppose, as I said before I'd of taken the draw if offered.

Depends if they want to win the game or not. Warnock basically set out his team as if it was an away game and to get a point, if lucky nick 3. Warnock is a master at spoiling the game and he admitted if they gone out to win the game we would have passed through them and won. Looking at games to come, not sure many other teams will do this or have the capability to do this

Which is a bit senseless as Muff won again meaning they are now further from the play offs, they were not out of it albeit being a tall order with games running out.

Reading might be just as tough. They won 3-1 yesterday but tbf didn't play all that well. I always get extremely nervous if we concede first. It's been our downfall for so many games. Cardiff being the only game we didn't collapse.

Not sure who else they have to play but maybe he thought if the can get a point from us there are better chances of 3 points elsewhere. I agree with you though, not enough games left for them to play like that

I think Reading and Luton will try it. From what i've read Reading would take a point against us right now, so I wouldn't be surprised if they played a boring game aiming for a point.

They set up to nullify us which is about the biggest compliment you can get paid. If we can’t break that down then that is another thing to work on.

The pace we played the game at yesterday was perfect for Boro. Even though we lead they knew they’d at least get one or two set plays to take advantage. It genuinely could have been worse as they had their tails up after the equaliser and we did not look remotely like snapping out of our plodding approach.

Reading will be different as they will go for the win. It will be a challenge as we have not faced a particularly threatening attack for a while and this team have some useful attacking players. Good test for the end of season run where we will, for the most part, come up against the best the division has to offer from a goal threat perspective.

Watford also conceded the first goal in the home game against Stoke, but eventually finished the game as 3-2 winners.

Not sure. They are a counter attacking team so need to be very wary of that.

I'm sure Reading will be setup very similar to the way Boro did and will be very happy getting anything out of the game. It's not going to be easy but our home record is superb. On paper we should win but as they say it's not played on paper. It's going to be a very tight game but one I believe will win.

Huddersfield A absolutely gutless way to lose (even it was a suspect game to throw)
Barnsley A hardly threatened at all and played keep ball
    West Ham H last season
    Too many more to count.

The overeaching problem with Watford is heads dropping if we go behind. I am of course talking more about Pre Coventry, but since then we have taken the lead in every game and won. We are brilliant at doing this (90% of the time), but if we do go behind first I prey heads might drop.

Reading, Brentford & probably Swansea will have to attack us as they'll need the points. Norwich will attack us to prove how much better they are than us. I can only see L*t*n & Millwall playing for a point. And I'm not sure the former have the players to do what Warnock got Boro to do...Millwall will be able to set up that way & possibly succeed with it.

Yes, was a bit concerning seeing how clueless we looked against a well set-up team, but, regardless of whether those teams will be in a position where they have to win against us or not, are any of those managers a patch on Warnock?

I think our problem with going behind is not so much heads dropping, but we just don’t create tons of chances. I think what makes this league so poor is the quality of forward players, teams can play well but they just don’t have the quality to put the ball in the net. We have better quality forwards who can put the ball in the net, but if we go behind in a game we’ll struggle to create much for them to score from.

Barnsley scored inside 4 minutes and we lost 1-0. Not really a collapse. Huddersfield was poor but not helped by Ivic know he was going. West Ham was last season, how far back are we going? The last time we went behind we won. We haven't conceded more than 2 goals in a league game all season. There probably isn't a side in the whole league less likely to collapse than us

Barnsley away was a weird one, I'm not for one second going to suggest we played 'well', but Sarr had his man on toast but just couldn't put the right ball in. Anyway, one positive from yesterday was that we continued to not give up many chances at all (even if we gave away far too many set pieces), even if we don't create too much, we'll always be difficult to beat, and all it should take is one or two moments of magic/slices of luck and we come away with 3 points

I remember a home game against Bury in the 70s where we were 3-0 up and cruising, but as soon as they scored we fell apart, let them get back level and very nearly lost 4-3 in the last minute. Typical Watford!
