Why do The Media always try to stir up ***** when there is no ***** to be stirred?

I actually watched the press conference when Matt Hancock supposedly said the following things, and I will put it in the words of the actual press report I am reading: -

It is understood that talks between players have been going on for two weeks and pre-date comments made by health Secretary Matt Hancock, who "HIT OUT AT PLAYERS SALARIES" (he did nothing of the sort) and called on them to "to play their part" (he did say this).

What Matt Hancock actually did do was give a one line answer to a DIRECT QUESTION from a reporter, and his answer was something very similar to this: -

"Yes I think the Premier league players should play their part"

These may not be his exact words, but I can assure you that is basically all he said. However somehow that one line answer was described in the article I read as: - "HITTING OUT AS PLAYERS SALARIES", "HANCOCKS OUTBURST" and "HANCOCK'S RANT"

Therefore no wonder the players have been vilifying Mr Hancock, because I doubt many of them actually saw the news conference in which the above comments etc. had been attributed to him.

Sky Sports News were even compounding these inaccuracies today, when their reporter who was talking about the players new initiative. She said that Mr Hancock tweeted " Warmly welcome this big-hearted decision from so many premier league footballers" however, she preempted that by saying that he had only a few days before been vilifying them.

THE MEDIA SHOULD STOP ALL THIS ***** STIRRING AND DOWNRIGHT LIES NOW

  2. I blame social media, before that we had (by and large) decent factual printed journalism. Now everything is rushed and sensationalised in order to compete. Sky have become one of the worst.

Agreed 100% but how else do they get clicks or sell their rags?
It’s the sensational eye catching headlines that count.

And not just footballers.. anyone, anything is open for twisted embellished extensions of the ‘facts’..
