I think letting him go made sense. Flores didn't see him as part of his plans, so he spent the season at Reading. He came back, and Walt didn't see him as a part of his plans either. I don't really see what Gino could do in that situation, especially with £10m on the table from Derby.

He has scored for fun in the championship except that stint with Reading.
He is the best 1 on 1 finisher I have seen at the club since when i started watching in 1977 (better than #2 Mojo)
He was never given a real chance at WBA. No proper run in the first team. A handful of sub appearances and often pushed out wide.
There are no guarantees of course unless you are buying a proven prem scorer and they are out of our and most of our peers reach. Therefore you look for someone who has scored consistently in a very decent league and hope they can make the step up. Matty fits into that group and is better placed than many given his experience of English football and he hasn't just been a one season wonder in the champ.
He may not succeed but he has a better chance than most as long as he is played as part of a 2 upfront. Playing on the shoulder of the last defender, off a big guy at Burnley would be perfect for him, as would (was !!) playing off Deeney.

Is Vydra really the best finisher you've seen? Troy scored more goals in the two seasons Vydra played in the Championship with us.

I think he's a decent player, but I don't think he's anywhere near as good as people are making out. He's scored 77 in 236 games in England, those aren't the stats of a prolific forward

You are counting the sub appearances there and the one bad season he had at Reading where I expect his head was all over the place. He had just won promotion with us, scored the promotion winning goal, and signed a 5 year deal, only to then be shipped out to Reading.
Yes he is the best 1 on 1 finisher I have seen in a WFC shirt as I said. Much better finisher than Deeney. I didn't say highest scoring rate as the stats will show who that was. I'm saying given a half chance or a 1 on 1 I would back him over anyone else I have seen in the WFC shirt. Much much more deadly than Gray.

What about his first season at Derby?

Being a lethal finisher at Championship level doesn't mean much. Gray was more prolific than Vydra during his time in the Championship, scoring plenty of 1 vs 1's that he so far hasn't replicated in the Premiership. Dwight Gayle is another player who looks deadly in the Championship, isolated in the Premiership

We'll see. I do think if we get the Alcacer deal over the line, then that would represent better business than getting Vydra back

There are no guarantees as I said but from what we saw, and his record, he is due a chance as much as anyone else from the champ or an overseas league. Having said that, yes Alcacer would be a more exciting signing, but how confident are you that it will happen ? I would prefer MV alongside TD than Gray or Okaka and £10m? wouldn't have broken the bank.
    Lets see what happens.

"In April 2018, he was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year[37] and also in the EFL Championship Team Of The Year.[38] He scored 22 goals in all competitions and received the Sky Bet Championship Golden Boot after scoring 21 goals in the Championship during the 2017–18 season.[35] On 1 May, Vydra won 3 awards at the clubs end of season awards ceremony winning the Player Of The Year, Players Player Of The Year and the Jack Stamps Player Of The year awards.[39]"

Some people need to wake up and realise championship and premier league is not the same.

Hilarious. Really ? So you would only buy players who are already proven in the premier league ? Not promising players from other leagues who MIGHT make it in the premier league ? Good luck with that and you will need a bigger chequebook than Gino has !

Clubs mostly buy from abroad. There is a reason for this.

Yes, the price. Not because they "realise championship and premier league is not the same".

The Championship is better than the Spanish 2nd Division - but we send plenty of players there and then believe they will be ready for the PL. Some people need to wake up and realise that.

The vast majority of Burnley's squad came from the spending post of their career in the Championship. Can you explain their success whilst employing your theory please?

Maybe. I believe the award itself is for "The player most likely to make an impression at a premier league club next season if finally given a long overdue proper chance at that level "

So what you meant to put it your original comment was...
Some people need to wake up and realise championship and premier league is not the same. Mostly.

I don't think anyone would have disagreed with that.

That’s normally to get them Spanish passports though isn’t it?

So why aren't they sent to La Liga? At least in their second season's over there?

No the mostly is from the post after that.

Some people need to wake up and realise that arguing with someone on an internet football forum is just stupid.

Some people just need to wake up. No. Seriously. Wake up. None of this is real. WAKE UP! You're in grave danger if you don....

I don’t know, I guess their main issue is loaning them out for two years so they can play for us. I’d imagine it’s very easy to find a loan club in the second division than it would be la Liga.

It’s nothing different to what happens here though is it? Premiership players are loaned to championship clubs all the time. Sending a promising young player to a lower league club (whichever country it’s in) is very different to a Premier league club taking a punt on a good lower league player, which is surely the argument with Vydra?
