Sky Sports News understands Matej Vydra’s £11m move to Leeds from Derby has collapsed because personal terms could not be agreed.

Vydra has ambitions to play in the Premier League, and we’ve been told he had concerns about moving to a club in the Championship that finished below Derby last season.

Opens the door for a return - anyone think he could do a job for us

Sign him up, could be useful for when we get relegated.

Can't see it happening as would mean Gino admitting he got it wrong when he let him go and paying a premium to rectify that.

We need to sign competition for Gray and Deeney, not someone to play with them. If we were to sign Vydra and another striker, I'd be totally on board.

    Swap him for Gray.

He didn't get it wrong though. Vydra is not, and never will be, Premier standard, although I would do a straight swap for Gray.

Why are no Premiership sides after him? Probably for the same reason we got rid of him

We're posting in our transfer section about Leeds, and their attempts to sign a player who left the club years ago; such is Watford's lack of progress in the transfer market.

Soon we'll all be chanting 'Fessi's coming home' to keep us entertained, as Fulham knock the fourth goal in against us at the Vic. SAD.

I never thought I could love Vydra more but this story has proven me wrong.

We should sign him based on this alone.

If we bought him to be ‘the’ new striker, then no. Not because I don’t think he’s a capable forward, but more so because he’s not a lone striker and that’s how we set up to play. If we played 2-upfront I’d definitely be more on board with the idea. That being said, if we sold Okaka for £6/7m and could get Vydra for £10m roughly, then I’d be more than happy the plan for him to come in as something different.

But we need to sign a striker who will fit into the style that we play, and have played, for a year now. Gray, in hindsight, has only ever scored goals regularly whilst in a partnership (Vokes/Barnes). Same with Deeney (Vydra/Ighalo). Signing Vydra again doesn’t solve that issue unless we change our style and formation.

If we sign Vydra part of the agreement is we have to sign his mate Pudil, as we are stocked with dodgy left backs this won't be happening!

Didn’t Rondon keep him out of West Brom team?

Nice thought - last time we signed him it was Gino just doing it to keep us quiet. We do not want him anymore.

Shocking that he was left out for a player they weren't even signing until 2 years later.

Vydra is s better player than Gray in every sense apart from upper body strength .

Well any striker who can control the ball is...

We have brought a few players back under the Pozzos but feel Vydra won't be another.

He'll get plenty of goals for Leeds at that level, can also imagine this page thread running to triple figures if we are struggling for goals after three games, there will be those lamenting his absence from these parts, probably those who will also be demanding we pick the loanee at Buckie Thistle who's scored a hatful

Surprised Fulham haven't gone in for him as they are after a striker, maybe Slav thinks the same as other prem managers? Good striker for the second tier but good enough for the Prem ?

Gino will wait to last day and and knowing that derby want waghorn and are close to ffp problems might offer 5m ,guy still scored a lot of goals last season And can't be any worse than any of present incumbents.

Then why is no one signing him in the prem. Cardiff were interested in Gray but could have Vydra etc...

  29. a19tgg

Never mind premier league clubs being in for him, why are none of the better championship teams in for him?

He’s totally unproven in the prem and the absolute last thing we need right now as we go into our fourth season in the PL is a championship striker.

So we are only looking to sign strikers who are proven in the prem ?

  32. a19tgg

    a19tgg First Team

Well ideally yes? We spent £18m on Gray who has largely been a flop, so should we go even further backwards and sign a championship striker for £10m instead? They don’t necessarily need to be proven in the prem, but proven in the best league in the country they play in would be a start considering that’s where we also play our football and hope to stay.

Ideally ....but realistically ? Proven in the Bundesliga, Serie A, La Liga, La Ligue ? The championship is the next best standard league....

But what has Vydra done that’s any better than he did with us before we deemed him surplus to requirements? He’s had a couple of good championship seasons which were no better than the good seasons we had with us. So why now three years after we sold him is he the answer when he wasn’t the answer when we first got promoted?

I personally feel we should be aiming much higher than somebody we didn’t deem good enough three years ago.

It's just ridiculous the way people on here still continue to obsess over the likes of Vydra. The man has done nothing to prove himself as worthy of being anything other than a good Championship striker. Flopped at West Brom, deemed not good enough for the Premier League with us, and still only being looked at by other Championship sides now, because like it or not that is his level. He was also crap in that league the season before last.

I honestly cannot imagine there is another set of fans quite so obsessed with average former players as ours. Does it not say something to you all that no Premier League club seems to have any interest in him whatsoever? Not a single one in all these years thinks he is good enough.
