I would honestly have him back. Played the best football under him until he was tapped.

My goodness we were good to watch though, outside of set pieces. Free flowing fast paced football.

I would literally welcome him back.

Would have put this in the Marco Silva thread but it was locked.

We give Mackay a pass for stealing players, taking advantage of contract negotiations and trying to take the desk out of the manager's office because it was under Bassini.

Knowing what we know now, is it any surprise Silva wanted out of this circus?

I think he had his chance. He knew as soon as Everton whispered in his ear he couldn't wait to go. Our performances dropped to below QSF level, and he didn't care. As soon as the players got wind of it I feel they thought the same as us.

I would seriously have Pardew or Curbishley over Silva back. He stabbed us in the back and for me personally has no right to step into our dugout again other than the opposition manager.

  5. We played the best football under Zola. But, Silva is streets better than Xisco. Heck a 10 year old donkey called Doris from the donkey sanctuary is better than Xisco.

In the subsequent years, I can definitely empathise to a degree with Silva (only to a degree as he surely would have had an idea what he was getting himself into), but that's no excuse for chucking it in after 9 games and trying to tap our players up from the inside

Anyway, at the time I did think he was a good manager, we played some nice stuff, but at the same time, how many screamers went flying in that made us look better than we were? Did well at Hull but ultimately got relegated, did alright at Everton in his first season before failing spectacularly last season...

Would have Gracia over him. We looked good under him for a few games at the start, what Watford team doesn’t under a new manager? the fact that he was sacked by Everton suggests that his early success was more likely just the Watford new manager defibrillator in action.

Think he was at the right level with us. Everton to big for him. But he’s found out as a fraud. If he was any good some other club would of took a punt on him. However the club did say he installed the best vibe when he arrived and the players responded for him until he told them all the only one he’d take with him was doucoure

If any of our former Head Coaches under the Pozzos is likely to return, I see Òscar García is positioning himself for another opportunity.

After he left us he did very well at RB Salzburg. Struggled at St. Etienne, Olympiakos/Olympiacos, and Celta Vigo after that though.

However the fact that he is flexible with formations and tactics is a huge upgrade on Xisco.

Definitely a mixed record. He saved Celta from relegation after joining mid-season but they were struggling again this season and he was sent packing. His departures at St Etienne and Olympiacos were a little odd - some combination of poor results and falling out with hierarchies.

He has seemed utterly incapable of sticking around anywhere during his career, for one reason or another. Don't know if that makes him a good fit or not for us.

His full season at Brighton (when they got to the playoffs) though was pretty defensive football. Not sure he's the guy to ramp our attacking output up, but we could do worse.

I'd have Garcia back and I think he'd be happy to come back. Lots of hints recently that he's on the lookout and England would be his preferred destination. I read a comment today and he spoke about his time at Watford and alluded to unfinished business.

So, it seems stars could be aligning. Bring him in to work with Munoz. I'd actually be very happy with that, to have someone of good experience, young and would fit in with the Spanish flavour in the current set up....and we wouldn't be sacking anyone. Maybe a demotion of sorts for Munoz, or equal billing with Garcia. Either way it would improve our current set up no end.

Think it’s only really in the UK where we put a big price on managers sticking around for more than 1-2 years. Given he has spent the majority of his coaching career abroad, his CV in terms of number of jobs looks about par for the course really.

He’s better than Xisco. But that’s not really a huge bar to get over. Appointing someone like this would just be a case of maintaining the status quo so far as I can see.

There’s no way Xisco is staying in any new coaching set-up.

Yes please! Sacked way too soon in my view. I’m sure we would have got more points than we did under QSF in his dozen games.

Probably not, but Garcia seems to be an easy fit with the current set-up. Maybe Xisco out and Garcia in, and keep all the other coaches. Who knows.

I see where you're coming from but I think Garcia hasn't stuck around for more than a year in pretty much every job he's had. The longest tenure of all his 8 jobs is 18 months at Salzburg (where did very well). Look at his 2014: after leaving Brighton, having taken them to the playoffs but apparently wanting a new challenge, he returned to Maccabi Tel Aviv (from which he had joined Brighton a year earlier), stayed for seven games then departed (out of concern about his family's safety during that summer's escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict) then joined us but departed after four games due to health concerns. Now maybe that's totally random, or a fluke, but there seems to be some restlessness in his career trajectory. Maybe that makes him a good fit for us, but I don't think that (and his 13 game tenures in Greece and France) is just general continental manager churn.

Hate myself for even considering such thoughts, but we need John Terry. Or somebody of his ilk. Basically anybody who retired in recent years from a successful career at a big club, with a reputation for being a complete and utter ****.

I say this for the following reasons:

    1) Masterminded several dressing room revolts to remove coaches at Chelsea, so he’s wise to the tricks of the trade.

    2) Far bigger football/media personality than Troy. No chance our floundering big man goes up against JT and comes out on top.

    3) Could probably still do a job at the back.

I think Terry has the potential to be a very good manager. All depends on choosing the right club I think.

    Left field option -

Kjetil Knutsen. Has been Bodo/Glimt head coach overseeing their unprecedented success and breaking all records up there...

Was thinking about him earlier. Certainly the sort of attacking football we’d be hoping for. You’d imagine Bodo/Glimt are on our radar given Zinc’s signing. Currently the close season in Norway but the new season starts this week so we’d have to pay some sort of compo; probably no scope for an amicable end of season parting of the ways.

I'll have to scrub myself down afterwards but I reluctantly agree with this. Awful that we've reached this point. Biggest fall from grace since the Spice Girls.

This is all assuming we can actually afford to sack another coach and staff.

No no no no no to John Terry. Watch the Rio Ferdinand documentary that was on BBC recently and then tell me you would want that guy anywhere near our club.

Interesting suggestion, but would he qualify for a post-Brexit work permit when he has not coached in any of the top leagues?
