Watford appear to have the ambition - set by the Pozzos to be best of the rest. We all know that apart from a fluke season we will not become an established top six club.
The last three years have shown that changing managers every year perhaps can keep you in the league but does not enable you to build a team.
We need to get stability - that means not only the manager but a playing squad who care.

Bearing in mind the transfer window is earlier this year I would prefer a bit of continuety. Change of manager would cause too much disruption.

Of course what you say is correct, but if clubs give up trying to compete you end up just content to reach 40 points (or maybe 37) each year, which we all hate don’t we?

That is short odds. I can't see them keeping Allardyce. wonder who else is in the running if he goes. I also wonder if a deal has not already been done. There has been no word of Silva's contract at Watford.

It wouldn’t totally surprise me if Gino has evidence of some sort of tapping up - and as such has held Everton to ransom. You can have him in the summer, we still get a large percentage of what you were willing to pay for him as compensation and he stay’s on ‘gardening leave’ until then and all parties remain quiet on the details.

Our statement, although not specifically mentioning them by name, makes it pretty clear that it’s Everton. It was potentially libellous if no evidence was found and only needs the correct judge to agree to that. I found it odd that the LMA never made a statement on behalf of Silva and Everton never said a word.

Presumably our tactic should be to draw out the legal process so that it goes past the summer so MS will have to decide whether to try to maximise his claim by effectively staying redundant over the summer, or settle asap so that he can pick up a job this summer before the legal process would ordinarily conclude ? He's no Curbishley so would presumably need to come to the table to avoid his career stagnating badly.

...and let’s face it, it’s pretty obvious BFS is gonna get sacked. Probably very close to after the season ends. That questionnaire thing they did for fans was likely the ‘smoking gun’ to give them reasons to do so.

Anyone else think that Moshiri has changed his mind about Silva in the few months that have passed after going for him so aggressively? Extremely unlikely. He’ll be at Everton and I expect we’ll do quite well out of it still financially. Not that we’ll ever get told that.

Oh yes - perhaps there should be yet another league table:
Most down to least honourable conduct in the Premier league. I wonder (actually I don't) where Watford supporters would put Moshiri in that league?

Foxes fans rather undergruntled with him, especially after today's 'shambles' at Selhurst.
Someone also posted 'we'll probably get Marco ****ing Silva'.

Foxes fans need to take a look at Southampton. They had a good season with Puel last year - did not like him, got rid of him and face the consequences.
Leicester started this season dreadfully, got Puel and will finish in the top 10. He may not give the fans the sort of football they want but he does get results generally.

If Gracia went and Leicester got rid of Puel would he be a good choice for us?
There could be a number of managerial changes this siummer. Arsenal obviously have to appoint a new manager, I still reckon Everton will and if Cardiff make it up will they want to keep Colin who has no Premiership credentials. Possibly West Ham and Palace may also look to upgrade.
I was looking at the list of all 92 clubs managers. I was amazed to find that no less than 25 clubs have appointed managers since we got Gracia. That is over a quarter of clubs in the last 3 months. Who ever said a manager's time was short? Also only 25 have been in their job for more than two years!

Southampton finished last season under Puel 17 points worse off than they were the previous season. There were as many points between Southampton in 8th and us in 17th as there were between us in 17th and Hull in 18th in the final standings at the end of last season. They did not have a 'good season', and it wasn't just about the perception that he played boring football. What they got wrong was their replacement, and subsequently sticking with him for so long.

When you say he gets results generally, he is currently on a run of 3 wins in 13 matches at Leicester, 4 of the last 6 of which are losses, including a loss to Newcastle and getting smashed 5-0 by relegation contenders Crystal Palace. This is a team who won the Premier League 2 seasons ago, and can boast, among others, Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy.

There's a reason why it's being reported that the dressing room is unhappy with him, and that a second club's hierarchy in 2 seasons are considering removing him amidst concerns/complaints over his training methods and tactical decision-making.

Statistics can be used in lots of ways. You compare Puel to the previous manager - but that was Koeman who did unbelievably well - and got poached. Puel's record in fact was almost identical at Southampton to Pochettino and he is not so shabby. Puel also took them to a cup final. Most also-ran clubs like Southampton would take finishing just outside the top group and a cup final as a good season. We would.
Leicester was a good bet for relegation when Puel got there. Their results have only dipped once they were safe from the drop. Yes they have some good vocal players like Vardy - and comparison to the mouthy Deeney springs to mind. Come on - Leicester winning the Prem was a fluke.

Would we? So far as I can see, QSF was sacked for similar reasons as Puel, having achieved a semi-final and comfortable mid-table finish.

Puel's record at Southampton was so almost identical to Pochettino that Pochettino finished with 10 more points than Puel; almost a quarter extra again on Puel's total.

Seems like a bit of an overreaction, they were 14th in the table and it was October. In a league with the current West Brom, Stoke and Southampton sides in it, not to mention Huddersfield, Swansea and Palace (for the majority of the season).

Sorry, I don't see what being vocal has to do with it? They're senior internationals and players of a very high calibre. City tried to buy Mahrez for what was deemed a cut price £65m a couple of months ago. The Leicester squad can also boast the likes of Adrien Silva, Vicente Iborra, Wilfred Ndidi, Harry Maguire and Demarai Gray. They spent a lot of money, including £25m on Iheanacho. You're quick to label their entire Prem win a fluke, but not them being lower in the table than they should be 3 months into a season? Fans of Watford should be more appreciative of this than anyone; it's not just about where you are, it's about how you have played getting there and how you are playing, as well as reading ongoing trends to suggest what is likely to happen in the future. Puel was an improvement on a temporary populist candidate who isn't really a manager in Craig Shakespeare, but that's hardly an astonishing metric.

So would you not consider finishing 7th or 8th - not 13th and getting to a final - not a semi-final measurably better?
Also QSF's bad run started before Christmas and lasted to the end of the season.

On the first point, I am not sure there is a significant distinction between the two scenarios given that Saints were an established PL club and we were in our first season back. Perhaps the second has more validity.

I am not trying to defend QSF here. I can quite see why he had to go, as can - I imagine - most of us on here. But to the outside world, it probably looked an odd decision, just as sacking Puel looks odd to us. However, I heard numerous Saints fans on radio phone-ins last season complaining about the football they were playing. So I am not sure there is actually any real difference. Both managers were sacked - I think - because they were perceived to be playing lousy football.

Their win percentage was almost identical. In 60 games Pochettino was 38.3% and in 53 games Puel 37.7%. Not just 38 games.

Position does not tell much of a story when teams are quite close in the early season but in the 8 games before Shakespeare was sacked he had 1 win 3 draws and 4 defeats. 6 points from 8 games. 0.75 points per game. Early season yes but easily relegation form. Puel - even with the bad run you mention - has got 35 points from 26 games.
Leicester have a good squad but not many on here have suggested it is vastly superior to our own. The vocal bit was about the influence mouthy players can have on the dressing room - both Vardy and Deeney have been accused of that. Still that is unimportant so I am happy to withdraw that. It is not just me who labels the title win as a fluke - just about every commentator going and most players and clubs at the time said it was. Their squad was inferior to most of the next six sides by a mile but they got on a winning run and believed in themselves. It did not last beyond the one season. They can aspire - as could Southampton - to best of the rest status at max. I did not make a comparison with Shakespeare as such but Puel's 35 points from 26 games equates to about 51 points in a season - which is around 7th or 8th place. Similar to at Southampton. At the moment Watford are still seeking someone to get them to that level.

What I wrote was: Most also-ran clubs like Southampton would take finishing just outside the top group and a cup final as a good season. We would. Chumlax implied that was roughly what we achieved. But we did not. How established either club was is not the issue. If next year we achieve that would you not consider 7th/8th and a cup final a good season?
QSF did well for us. He only went because it was not spread across a season and his second half season was terrible. It was not about lousy football but lack of result from before Christmas. If next year we finish 8th and get to the cup final I would not want Gracia sacked even if I was a bit disappointed about the style of football.
