Precisely. Yes, their actions after the abduction are odd, to say the least, like for instance when Kate realised Madeleine wasn't there, she shouted: "they've taken her" which is strange because, at that time, it was not known what had happened. She could easily have wandered off, as children tend to do all the time. It's even been documented that they left the apartment unlocked. However, I just cannot fathom their involvement. Guilty of bad parenting, but not of kidnapping and most likely murdering their own daughter.

And then to constantly fight to keep it in the spotlight and the media for years afterwards, that would make absolutely no senses

Have you told the German police, they may not have thought about all that? Be quick!

Must be a bit of a shock for the family to suddenly be confronted by the fact the German police now believe she was murder.

Maybe they were prepared but seems to have come out of the blue.

What was it you implied to me yesterday about just replying to a post with sarcasm? Or was that just because it was aimed at yourself?

I bet it’s a horrendous thing to hear.

However, you’d think with every passing year the likelihood has become more realistic for them. I know they continually have said they believe she’s alive (as you would say) - but I’d be very very shocked if they actually believed it.

What is confusing at present is how the police in Germany are so sure, even going as far as claiming they know the manner in which she was murdered...

There are parts so far from what we are hearing that are hard to connect.

Haven’t read the full details, but isn’t he in prison there? So presumably it comes from a confession?

Nothing wrong with the occasional sarcasm. I'm quite happy to explain to him after 14 years of police investigation, why I was being sarcastic. But I didn't criticise yours, I pointed it out, and I just asked for clarification which comments needed your sarcasm, but you couldn't answer.

I am sure HornetMan will be grateful for you looking after him. You are making a habit of it lately, stirring it up.

I’m not stirring anything. Just dealing with the hypocrisy that’s all.

And it really isn’t that I ‘couldn’t’ answer, more that you really shouldn’t have needed it pointed out to you.

I doubt it comes from a confession as they haven’t charged him with it?

I suspect there’s likely a weight of evidence that makes it very likely? Whether that’s a large amount of circumstantial evidence though, who knows.

    Great thread.

There has been so many theory's and examinations of this case, it is impossible to really know the truth about the real facts. When this happened in 2007, it broke my heart that little Madeline was missing. I have never seen such a media following on one single case before, and it is still going on today, just not as well publicised as it once was. I have watched interviews with the parents, Gerry and Kate, listened to many YouTube videos giving their own personal view and account of what they think happened, watched documentaries and listened to experts who have gone over all the evidence including handling with the Police abroad and in the UK. But saying all that, I have my own suspicions about what happened, and whether or not what the cadaver dogs detected in the room and the rental car is true or not.

I actually read Kate's first book she released after this happened (obviously trying to milk more money from it), and I have to say, some of the way Kate describes Madeline made my skin crawl. I won't repeat it here, but there is a certain part of the book that goes into how she looked at Madeline and a certain body part that she adored.... let's leave it at that. There is a massive difference between motherly love and perversion and if it's true what I read in her book about that, my god.

Do I believe she is dead? Yes I do. They would of found her by now with all the updated technology we have and the amount of time and effort that went into it. Do I think her parents have anything to do with it? Yes I also believe that to be the case. I just cannot seem to understand how flippant both parents were that evening - three young kids left alone while they went to dinner. They even had a child baby sitting service for crying out loud - and decided not to use it. Gerry is creepy and has always seemed very controlling - and what happened to the millions they raised in funding? I cannot say for sure, nobody can, but if they had anything to do with it, which I really think they did.... one day we might hear the real truth. RIP Madeline Xxx

I can be a really sh*t parent at times. After the "Deeney" moment I took my then 7 year old son into Watford for the night and got home completely wasted with him in tow. My wife was bl**dy furious, and rightly so. I dislocated one of my daughters arms whilst swinging her around at a party, (yes probably a bit drunk then too). I've kicked footballs into their faces, burnt them, shouted at them and generally been a clumsy idiot around them all their lives. In fact we've been down to A&E in Watford so many times over the years that I'm surprised they haven't sent a social worker over.

However, not once have I ever left them alone for a single second when they were vunerable either here or abroad. My son is 14 now and only now are we considering an overnighter away from home. You don't have kids to leave them alone and vunerable at any time in their young lives. Causing them a bit of pain is more than acceptable.

The McCanns certainly didn't murder their own daughter and I hope they've finally cracked the case.

    This.

Well said Diamond, and yeah Parents will sometimes lose track of kids' whereabouts but leaving them alone intentionally - with nobody to look after them, with access to the building beggars belief.

What are you basing your theory that they had something to do with it on? Would be genuinely interested to know.

Disliking the character of the parents is fine - but surely that’s as far as it can go?

I just don’t fathom how the parents would be able to have silenced every one of their friends they were with for this long, and that they would even get them to agree to cover it up? And that’s on top of covering their tracks better than a seasoned criminal would do...?

All the stuff that’s happened after is open to debate - the character of the parents, the money, the books etc etc - but I think a lot of it was born out of keeping the case as public as possible. Everyone will have their own thoughts on the methods used.

But short of one of the parents (or both) literally handing over their child to someone when ‘checking’ on her, without the knowledge of their friends, I cannot see at all how the parents know anything or are guilty of any actual crime, beyond a case of dubious parenting. And even that’s a case of personal opinion.

My eldest daughter was a similar age to Madeleine when she disappeared so the case really resonated with me at the time. Like Diamond, I would never claim to be a perfect parent by any stretch of the imagination, but what I could never get my head around is why Madeleine’s parents left her unsupervised in that room. Any parent knows you can never rely on a toddler to sleep soundly without stirring. As her parent, I would have been terrified, not that she might be abducted, but that she might wake up and wonder either into the road or fall into the pool while trying to find us. I also remember being surprised (putting it politely) that one couple in their party of friends said that they had gone back to check on their child because the child had been unwell. Why would you leave a sick child unsupervised to go out on the piss with your mates? I’ve always suspected that, were the McCanns not a middle class pair of “respectable” doctors, they would not have received the same sympathetic treatment from the UK media that they did. Class snobbery in full effect.

I grew up round the corner from where they lived at the time in Rothley. I lived on the edge of the next village so it’s only a five minute walk away. There were reporters and news vans having to park on our road and walking up the main road to their house. It was mad just how much coverage this story got right from the word go.

Absolutely cracking chippy up the road from theirs too. Second best in the Charnwood area for my money.

As I stated, it is just my own view on what I feel happened. I am not a forensic expert and do not pretend to know anymore than John and Jane Doe down the road about the real facts. People are bound to come to their own interpretations on what happened, and that was/is mine.

I will answer your question though. What makes me lean towards the parents involvement is the cadaver dogs. They are trained to sense "death" and "decay" in various places, and alerted to a place in the room and more importantly - their rental car. It has never been fully explained why the dogs alerted at those places - or what else it could of been. Again, this is just my own theory on it. Dogs, even that well trained, are bound to make mistakes, so it could be just that. Another point I would like to make is just the general attitude of the parents when asked by reporters about it. It seemed very defensive at times. Maybe this was put on as a front - maybe they were sick and tired of being asked the same questions over and over again. It would get to anyone eventually. It's not a case that will ever go away totally, until Madeline is found alive or otherwise. The parents could well be innocent and perhaps I am believing too much third hand information - but it's just my view on the events, like every other person will have one too. If I am right or wrong - it doesn't matter. All that matters is the day her parents get the truth, whether they did have something to do with it or not - is just a theory I tend to agree with. But I really hope that, if Madeline is alive somewhere, she is now old enough to understand what her parents have been through - and I hope she is safe.

My big concern is the refusal by Kate McCann to answer Police questions.
It's beyond me as a parent why you wouldn't do anything in your power to help the police investigation. Even if you're being accused. If you have nothing to hide you would answer surely?

I refused in my own stubbornness to read her book. But maybe I will give it a go. But as you said @SkylaRose she just doesn't come across right to me.

Agree strongly with your opinion on the cadaver dogs. They did come up with an answer for the rental car. It was soiled nappies! Whether this gives the dogs an alert or not I can't answer.

Like other people have alluded to, it could be a cover up or perhaps a defense mechanism due to not wanting to show emotion or let her emotional state be misguided into anything that could hinder the case. All people can do is speculate, and until we have heard the real story, that's all people can do.

Surely you have watched the Netflix documentary though?

They state in the documentary Cadaver dogs could smell if a body had been buried and then removed up to 40 years ago.

So somebody could’ve died in that room at any point in the previous 40+ years.

I believe it was the blood dog that indicted on the car? Which again you can apply the same principal to.

Good point, and I do somewhat agree with the reasoning, but it still baffles me the absolute ineptitude of both parents. They were both doctors, so not illogical people at all.

In that case it would be easy to go over the records from the hotel to find out if anyone had passed away in said apartment.

I watched the documentary about a year ago and there are points when you think the McCanns may have had something to do with it and there are other points when you think they didn't. I'm not sure what I believe anymore but I've never been all that comfortable with how they've reacted throughout this. At no point did I feel they were hugely upset which I find very odd but maybe that's just who they are.
The chances of Madeline being alive are sadly very slim now and I just hope that we are not far away from finding out exactly what happened and whoever is to blame is brought to justice
In regard to leaving your child alone like that I wonder how many parents were doing exactly that but this incident pretty much put a stop to that. I didn't have kids at this time but I certainly wouldn't leave them alone like that now but would that have been different if I had kids before this event. I would like to say that I would do what I do now but maybe it was seen as ok back then? Sometimes it takes something tragic to happen for changes to take place

Can anyone give a plausible way that the parents would have managed to get all their friends on board with it? Not one of them in the years since has turned or admitted a crime? And if they were involved, how did they manage to cover all trace?

I just don’t see how it’s at all possible.

Maybe involved but actually not physically doing the crime. Did somebody mention that when told she was missing her mum immediately said she had been taken rather than just missing. Could they have got somebody else to take her.
I am completely guessing as clearly don't know but could be feasible. I really hope it's not the parents though
